This is the Ryugyong Hotel: It is the tallest building in North Korea, at 105 stories, and is at supertall status (+1000ft/300m). Construction was started in 1987 and was due to be open in 1989. Upon it's completion, it would be the tallest hotel in the world. In 1992, the building topped out. Shortly after, construction was halted due to lack of funds. It stayed as you see in the picture, no windows, fixtures, or fittings. Even though the Ryugyong dominates the Pyongyang skyline, official information regarding the hotel and its status have proven difficult to obtain. Though mocked-up images of the completed hotel had once appeared on North Korean stamps, the government denied the building's existence for many years, manipulated official photographs in order to remove the structure, and excluding it from printed maps of Pyongyang. In April 2008, after 16 years of inactivity, construction resumed. Here it is today:

wow, that building actually looks pretty cool now ^^
wow, that building actually looks pretty cool now ^^
There's a crane on the top of the building it hasn't been removed yet.
There's a crane on the top of the building it hasn't been removed yet.
Maybe it's part of it?
IF NK launch a nuke they're fucked. Purely because the UN will come down on them like a house of bricks Or they could always write them a letter, telling them how angry they are.
more like send them a strongly worded letter on how they should not do that again
Communism has nothing to do with North Korea.
I agree. This is straight fascism under a thin veil of staunch communism.
this is the worst kind of post the kind of person who knows absolutely nothing about what they're talking about but still posts like they do
I believe he is just pointing out what a website is saying, in no means is he trying to force us to believe it. You say he knows absolutely nothing about what he is talking about, yet I haven'tt seen you come up with anything to offer. The fact of the matter is no one definitively knows for sure, there are plenty of places that will say communist, while some may same monarchy or whatever else you want to call it. Honestly if you want to think it is communist, no one is stopping you, it's seen differently to alot of different people. Your the type of person that doesn't seem to want to help out, but forcibly shove stuff you want us all to believe down our throats, but you don't want to listen to what every one else wants to say because "my word is better then yours!" [editline]02:08AM[/editline]
It must be hard to keep those rooms vacant.
Now that is one thing I am curious about, if they finished construction of this "super" hotel (If that's what you want to call it I guess) do they have any "tenants" or is it just like all the other buildings in NK and abandoned for the most part except for tourists when they are allowed in?
Magicians make people disappear. In North Korea, GOVERNMENT makes you disappear!
I do want to visit in my Lifetime. I wonder how the people would act if they were liberated by a first world country.
The liberators would be greeted by hostility from the citizens because of how brainwashed they are into thinking how great "The Leader" is and how terrible America and everyone else is.
Or they'll be too starving and weak to care.
We need to invade and establish some good old democracy!
Here is a look into the daily like of a NK family. Shows you how they view the west Kinda scary and shocking
Wow, North Korea makes China and the Soviet Union look like a FUCKING PARADISE.
The Soviet Union really wasn't that bad.
There's bound to be a power struggle once Kim dies from his stroke.
I bet that one dot is some bigass statue.
it's pyongyang
Nice thread man. It enlightened me a lot about NK.
I saw a documentary on North Korea, but you aren't allowed to bring cameras, phones, laptops, ANYTHING that you could tell the outside world about NK with. They accomplished this by hiding cameras with a doctor's medical tools (Their reason for going was to help people who were blind or had bad eyesight see again.) What they do show (the Koreans) is basically empty buildings etc. that make the country look good but when you see it for how it really is its horrible. The buildings on the border of China and South Korea are completely empty, "stylish" buildings. No citizen is allowed to contact the outside world. Fleeing from the country can result in your death if you are found or the death of your family. Not only that but the country is surrounded by electric fences and mine fields. When the doctor healed the people's eyes they stood up and praised their leader promising to grab a gun and kill every American on earth (awkward for the American journalist in the same room) and they also sing songs to their children about killing Americans. I really wonder what the fuck is going on in there.
Its amazing how the entire country is some kind Facade. I remember seeing one documentary where this guy and his group of like 6 people where the only guests at a 50 story hotel building. And there actually is a big ass statue located on that bright dot that has tons of lights running at night, its sometimes the only thing with lights running at night. Oh yeah and that awesome nat geo documentary about the people who sneaked those cameras in
Maybe it's part of it?
:downs:
I bet the word vote does not exist with in the borders of the Democratic Republic of North Korea
http://www.vbs.tv/newsroom/vice-guide-to-north-korea-1-of-14 Just change the URL to 2, 3, 4, etc. Pictures can only show you what fresh hell is going on there, a video is priceless (literally)
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
It's a form of, sorry I wasn't being exactly straight.
I want to facepalm so hard right now... Communism is, by definition, without a dictator. A dictatorship cannot be communist.
A quote from the Wikipaedia: I don't think you read anything about North Korea. The inarticulate dreck in your little monologue just sounds like a bunch of recycled trash picked up from forum posts.
Oh wow they have public education?
