So the question is - is it even close to U1?
No, because no matter how many Need For Speed games I have played nothing has come close to how much fun and frustration I had underground 1.
how is "manual transmission" in a fucking car game a selling point [editline]12th February 2016[/editline] like surely that should just be standard
bc it wasn't there by the time it launched
"True NFS" is Hot Pursuit and High Stakes, the NFS games with story are the franchise that EA bastardized.
"True NFS" doesn't exist because NFS means different things to different people
"True NFS" is Hot Pursuit and High Stakes, the NFS games with story are the franchise that EA bastardized.
If you're going to be pedantic and reductive then Road and Track Presents: The Need for Speed, which was a simulation racing game for the 3DO, was the "True NFS". So the arcade racing of Hot Pursuit and High Stakes are the bastardisation of the franchise.
if they can fix the rubberbanding great played the 6 hour EA Access trial on xb1, the driving is good but the rubberbanding makes it so long as sprint races where you have a lead get ruined in 5 seconds then the game won't let you rubberband back like the AI does.
If you're excited for Need For Speed, you should watch this video before purchasing.
I mean I understand why others don't like it, but I've always liked this NFS. It's good, physics wise not so much but I got used to it to the point where I can easily outdrive everything.
Honestly it was one of, if not my favorite game of last year. I had a shit ton of fun with it and besides the fucked rubberbanding (which is better than it was at launch) it met all my expectations. I am a bit biased though, probably my most favorite games ever are NFSU 1, 2, Most wanted and carbon. I liked Most wanted 2012 and had fun with rivals though. I for one am definitely picking it up again on PC.
If you really are looking at a driving game for PC, Look at Dirt Rally. It is the best Driving game for PC at the moment.
Sure DiRT Rally is a great racing game but I wouldn't really compare it to NFS just because they're both driving games.
the most recent NFS is actually a pretty good racing game. Lots of customization, tons of races, tons of stuff to change, you can fiddle with the driving settings like never before in a NFS game, it's pretty neat.
I really hoped they patched out your crew calling you every fucking second while you drive around, made me wish there was an option to roll your window down to chuck your cellphone out.
Now they only call you after every single story mission, and occasionally to remind you to go to the next story mission so they can call you afterwards.
NFS 2015 was apparently pretty fucking bad at launch but now that they've added a lot of parts and shit in the free updates it's absolutely worth the €40 i paid for it. I mean come on, a racing game featuring a goddamn Volvo 242 that you can beast up to almost 1000hp can't be all that bad
I mean come on, a racing game featuring a goddamn Volvo 242 that you can beast up to almost 1000hp can't be all that bad
The car handling in the game is a pile of dicks compared to NFSU2.
the most recent NFS is actually a pretty good racing game. you can fiddle with the driving settings like never before in a NFS game, it's pretty neat.
dont forget that in underground 2 you had a full dyno and could tune and adjust everything too
The first 6 or so NFS games are all still really solid games actually Porsche Unleashed is a little mediocre if only because just porsches is boring, but it still plays ok
It's not the Porches, that game had the absolute worst driving of any NFS game ever made.
A racing game boasting about wheel support Shit this is going to flop. There was also a severe framerate drop in there, too. I swear it was all 60 except for that one shot that was clearly 30, maybe less
They are trying to capture the spirit of NFSU and NFSU2 but imho they failed hard. Its always nighttime, its always raining, and the camera gimmick where it zooms in to drift is way too fucking annoying.
Except that's not even the default camera.
The races are rigged where the other drivers rubber-band if your too fast or slow down when you are too slow.
Welcome to arcade racing games.
One more thing, No in-car camera. You gives us wheel and manual transmission option but no first person camera? What is the point.
NFS hasn't had an in-car camera in 15 years. (unless you count Shift I guess)
If you really are looking at a driving game for PC, Look at Dirt Rally. It is the best Driving game for PC at the moment.
Not even remotely similar to this game at all. Incomparable. I really like how they have some of the soundtrack from NFS3/High Stakes play in the garage. SO much nostalgia. I'm still pretty early on in the game though. Just bought it a couple weeks ago when it was on sale.

That is a boring game right there.
I really like how they have some of the soundtrack from NFS3/High Stakes play in the garage. SO much nostalgia.
oh man this is a thing? that's fucking rad
oh man this is a thing? that's fucking rad
Yeah, they've been added sometime after launch, the game had been receiving a lot of free new stuff like songs, customization stuff and more through updates, which is pretty cool.
Music Music has always had a special place in Need for Speed and we’re delighted to be able to add a selection of new tracks. For those of you that have been with us for a while now, these songs may strike a chord: Aquila 303 – The Need for Speed (1994) Overheated – The Need for Speed (1994) Scud – The Need for Speed (1994) Toxic Exhaust – The Need for Speed (1994) Menu – NFS II (1997) Romulus 3 – NFS II (1997) Sirius 909 – NFS III Hot Pursuit (1998) Callista - NFS Road Challenge / High Stakes (1999) Quantum Singularity – NFS 4 Road Challenge / High Stakes (1999) The Good, The Bad, The Eddie – NFS Underground (2003) Intro Song – NFS Underground 2 (2004) The Baddest – NFS Underground 2 (2004) I Am Rock – NFS Most Wanted (2005) Belt – NFS Carbon (2006) Hard Drivers – NFS Carbon (2006) Induction Kit - NFS Carbon (2006) Decalomania – NFS Pro Street (2007) Dampener Rod – NFS Pro Street (2007) Bezel – NFS Pro Street (2007)
There wasn't a NFS game that i generally disliked, except for Undercover which i really didn't like for some reason.
Tbf this is more of a "Car Culture" game rather than an all out racing game so that's something to consider.
It's not the Porches, that game had the absolute worst driving of any NFS game ever made.
I really, really liked Porsche. In fact, whenever someone mentions NFS, that's the first game that pops up in my mind
I really, really liked Porsche. In fact, whenever someone mentions NFS, that's the first game that pops up in my mind
Also I am talking about the PS1 version specifically. The PC version is released under the same name yet is leagues better, I've never played it though.
I gave this NFS a shot with EA Access and as someone who liked most of the games up until like, the Hot Pursuit reboot, I didn't really like any part of this game aside from how it looked There's something about the way the cars control that feels wholly unsatisfying and weighty, even after tuning, and the trademark EA 'railroad you in the first 1-2 hours of the game' is there which is extremely frustrating, along with the FMV cutscenes that aren't really that well done to begin with
