'Call of Duty is not for kids', says eight-year-old
Probably because loads of them are raised on COD which seems to be super generic.
Where as I was raised on Half Life, Unreal Tournament and the likes, thanks to my brother.
unreal tournament was a clone of quake multiplayer
Anyone have that video where the kid was struggling to use curse words talking about call of duty?
I personally think that as long as your kid is mature and smart enough to know not to shoot people in reality there isn't much harm in letting them play violent games. Its not a hard concept to grasp that killing people is wrong especially since it's almost instinctual, I don't know why everyone thinks that if a kid sees something even vaguely related to violence or sex they will turn into a sociopath.

I don't think children should play M-rated multiplayer games though because to me that's not any different than a little 8 year old going and hanging out with a bunch of 20-somethings
I have no problem with kids playing M-rated games. Online multiplayer though, that's what turns them into little shits.

By that logic, everything is a clone of everything.
Well at 19, I would prefer LEGO or Scrabble to COD for Christmas.
lol the news just went rwj at the end. "YOU REMEMBER THOSE, RIGHT?" what the fuck

well unreal was released, what, like right after, and copies the style almost exactly?
I disagree.
CoD is good as acting as a concentration camp for the worst players the gaming community has to offer.
Without it they would flock to outer games.
I played Doom II before I could read. Not even shitting anyone here.
To this day, I've never seriously injured or killed anyone. Or had the desire. And yes, I've handled guns and 've been in the military.
It's not the game, it's the parent. And better yet, it's the parent's capability to raise their child in a way to be able to distinguish media from reality. Even with all my playing of Doom II, I cried the first time I saw someone in a live-action movie die on TV (at age 6 or so). :v:
Yep, I blow away dudes' faces with a shotgun in video games but I still cry at the "End of Time" episode of DW

No, in Quake if you stand still, you're dead. In Unreal, you can camp and it's usually all good.
It may not sound like much, but when you play them, they are completely different.
Most of you are guilty of playing rated m games when you were young, so why is it such a big deal for kids in this generation?
look what we became
It really does irritate me how parents are informed before buying the game for their children that it is rated M for a reason still blame media and large companies for making games so violent for their 8 year olds.
I went to visit my cousin after not seeing him for like 3 years. He was 6 back then and loved nothing more then to play legos and toys and pretty all the stuff that any other kid should love doing. When I went over we basically just sat in his garage playing Black Ops and Saints Row the Third (with the fucking GIMP MISSION). What the fuck happened!?
We seriously need to pass a law or some thing saying that not even with adult supervision can children be able to get M rated games.
After giving it some thought and looking at other people's arguments against mine, I have had a change of heart.
Kids should have the choice of differentiating right from wrong. Just because they are exposed to mature games does not mean that their minds will become warped in the process.
I guess my main gripe was that when ever I went on Live I would always find some smug kid who would play Eminem over his mic and call everyone a faggot. But that's when the mute button comes in handy.
I was also kind of distressed about my little cousin because truth be told my uncle isn't the best role model. There was an incident that happened during the same vacation involving my mom and my uncle that I didn't mention because it was not related and kind of personal. I don't want to get too much into it but let's just say we're not going to be talking to them for a while.
That being said, children are not going to be twisted into a poor state of mind over video games.
To those who responded thanks for the feed back and making me smarterer.

I think you should re-read all the post you link cause most of them say only a short term effect of rise of aggressive behaviour in young children and it doesn't really happen in teens. For long term there is no correlation that playing violent video games produces violent children. Instead of acting like a smartass and linking to all these journals with the title you put into google.
guys fox is right
lets raise our kids the right way and have them play exclusively with lincoln logs and scrabble
sign my petition to make whiny congressmen play violent video games
