Don't mind the idiots saying 'ZOMG WE R ALL GON DIE.'
Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi just spoke out against it, and Republican Darrell Issa says it now stands "no chance of passage."
It's been a show of force like no other: More than 700k anti-censorship contacts have been delivered to Congress so far this week, as the Blacklsit Bill gets heard in committee.
If Republicans and Democrats are together on something, you know it's bad. :v:
I wonder how Anonymous'll react if this bill gets passed and they censor 4chan.
According to Wikipedia, this hasn't passed yet.

When do they vote on it/results come in?
When do they vote on it/results come in?
It hasn't even been voted on at the committee level yet. It still has a ways to go.
This will tell you how the bill is currently doing in Congress: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3261/show
I am a bit uneducated when it comes to some parts of government, but how can they legally pass these bills with no one voting on them/endorsing them besides people in seats of power? its bullshit and total crap.
That's how bills are passed.

I knew the Internet should not be underestimated.

It's called representative "democracy", it means you get your token vote for one of a small group of identical candidates and can't complain when you're fucked over later.
If this passes, where am I gonna watch free German scat porn?
This is why lobbying shouldn't be allowed.
Honestly i'd wish all the spam in any forms related to this would be censored, Now i don't only mean censorship, i also mean everything else(ie ron paul). It's your problem and you don't need an unrelated 3rd party's opinion on it. And yes this is an unrelated 3rd party's opinion that you seem to need.
Has anyone actually taken a look at the way the government works in so called "democratic" societies these days? We get a choice of one person out of a few parties, and generally have to get by by voting for the lesser of however many evils there are. This isn't how democracy is supposed to work - we're being given the bare minimum of control over our government, rather than the government doing what the majority of the population wants. We shouldn't have to rally together to prevent governments from doing something, and countries that call themselves "democratic" certainly shouldn't be having to resort to asking other countries for help to prevent basic human rights from being taken away from them.
inb4 people start calling me a communist and / or someone who doesn't understand how government works. "Democracy is generally defined as a form of government in which all adult citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives." Except in today's society that boils down to "who do you want to tell you what you can or can't do?"
Admit it, the only reason we want this bill not to pass is so we can look up smut porn and two girls one cup and not get arrested.

All democracy is now is a convenient checklist used as an umbrella term to convince us into believing we have a say. http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Paul.Treanor/democracy.html (a nice article dissecting "democracy" and explaining how wrong it is)

I have a question for you, and for evlbz. Do you two vote in elections?

Only you.
Only you.
He's got my vote.
America isn't a democracy, it is a democratic republic. Judging by the more recent posts in this thread a lot of people didn't know that.

the difference is one of semantics.

I only recently turned 18, and there hasn't been an election that I've been eligible to vote in yet.

oh, okay. well, I still have argue with your statement. We do not have a choice of two parties, we have a choice of many parties. And if you don't like any of the parties, you can form your own. Or you can run as an independent. There is no law requiring politicians to run as a party member, and the only reason these lesser parties never win is because everyone assumes that you have to vote either democrat or republican. Another major problem is that only 63% of Americans vote. no wonder so many of us feel cheated.
P.S. Rallies are the easiest and most effective way to show our politicians that we want change. Especially between elections.

I'm British, but as far as I can see, only a few parties actually get decent press coverage, as they are the only ones who have the money to advertise their campaigns at the expense of the other parties. If every party was given the same amount of press coverage, this wouldn't be a problem, as most people would have a decent understanding of what the parties wanted. But that's not the case, and it's because of this that people feel they can only really vote on one of two or three parties. In the case of the British parliament, it's either Labour, the Conservatives or the Liberal Democrats most of the time.
All I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure the SOPA and PROTECT IP acts weren't advertised when the last US election was held, and it's something the government's come up with on their own that basically no one wants.
I was 18 a month after the last general election here :<
I did vote on the AV referendum, but we didn't elect candidates in our area (for some reason)

SOPA is a result of corporate lobbying, something I think should be illegal. We are a democracy, not a oligarchy.
