I didn't even know 8-string Basses existed till I saw one in a music shop about a week ago. Not really sure if there's a point to them really other than to show off.
Well, it's a fucking awesome sound.
No, it's sounds like a bass with more notes. More strings doesn't make it sound good.
I can only see a person using an 8 string bass if they were a solo act who was a legit bass virtuoso.
Well, don't forget, there's two kinds of 8 string basses. There you go, each one has an octave string above it, it's meant for a star-y effect. It's basically a 4 string bass that does it's own harmony effect. and ????? Some of those notes must be so low they aren't even audible. The fuck is the point? [editline]06:03AM[/editline] Oh wow, we're very offtopic. here's something that's on topic. It was the second one that I saw. The neck is so wide, how long must your fingers to be to play it? Plus it must be hard to play with no frets. Love that CE24 too, especially the fact that you can get 5 different pickup combinations from 2 pickups.

Well that highest string doesn't look thick enough to be a G, so I assume it goes higher as well.
Fuck, I should have known that I wasn't allowed to have an opinion.
"Cancer doesn't exist" "Yes it does" "Oh well, excuse me I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have an opinion" Doesn't matter if you can have lower or higher notes, it's always just going to sound like a bass, so it still depends on how the guitar is built to make it sound awesome. If you want lower or higher notes for a song, just do a different tuning. You don't need to have every note in the freaking world for one song.
Steinberger and Ibanez smash this puny guitar company!
I like Steinbergers, but they are fugly compared to PRS guitars.
I hadn't even heard of Steinberger until now, and I have to say, they are pretty hideous.
7-8 string guitars and 5 string basses annoy me for some reason. It always seems like more of a gimmick than something that's worth designing a new bridge, new pickups, and using multiple truss rods is worth. (but this knob goes to 11!)
S'all personal taste man. And by the way what tools do you use for the neckwork and fretwork of a guitar? I know of the router, just no idea what the other tools are.
I like to use a spokeshave to carve the neck. Some people attach sanding drums to a hand drill to do the shaping. You'll need a good jigsaw or bandsaw to cut the neck out.
Cool thanks man the guy i know whos letting me use his tools should have all that 'cept the spokeshave.
Well, I meant shaping as in the rough shaping. you don't need the spokeshave, I personally just like to use it instead of a drum sander.
I prefer to stay away from power tools anyway as much as I can, I'm hating that one way or another the best option for body work will be routing.
The only alternative to routing a body would be using a drill press repeatedly and chiseling out the extra, but that generally ends up being pretty dirty work. Unless you're talking about body contours, which can also be done with a spokeshave.
