Literally all of the buildings in Tokyo are built to cope with such a thing. Earthquakes aren't that rare in Japan, really.
Over 10,000 feared dead, hundreds of thousands homeless, millions without power, food or water. Not to mention the meltdown fears at Fukushima Daiichi.
