English is a language of exceptions. We don't follow grammar rules when it suits us. The most accurate pronunciation is the one most commonly used, regardless of grammar rules. The one most commonly used in the lifespan of the acronym is with a hard g. Want to talk about rules? That's #1.

First time I saw it I read it as Gif, found out it wasn't pronounced that way, didn't care. Ended up coming up in a conversation once in my life so far with a IT friend of mine, and he basically made all the arguments in this video and I was like "Meh, its gif", and he responded "ok whatever" and we continued on about our day.
Never gonna use jif because I've been saying GIF since always, so has everyone else I know and because Jiff is a brand of bathroom cleaning goop here.

I hate this argument so much because despite having overwhelming evidence for one side or the other, people will literally never be convinced and never give up the way they pronounce gif.
I gave up ages ago and just say 'animated image' when I'm speaking.
I personally say gif(soft g) because it's nicer to say, but I only really start arguments about it if there's a need for conversation, no matter how stupid.

GifV isn't a real format, it's a fake extension used by imgur that gives you a webm or a gif if you can't play them. It's the most terrible thing ever and makes 15mb gifs out of webms.

Yes, it is. ThioJoe has two channels, ThioJoe and ThioJoeTech. The latter is where he posts real tech news/information/discussion and the former has been around for a long time as the channel where he posts hilariously false tech tutorials and lately parodies of other stupid internet phenomena, i.e. people arguing about GIF vs GIF.
