How is Hellboy in Hell?
Damn good. Mignola's at his slow-burn, haunting, mythic best. It's slow but never drags, rewarding both visually and through the story. Putting the big red guy into Hell itself really brings that facet of his destiny out (he still doesn't want it) and digs deeper into the Hellboy mythos. I wouldn't recommend it if you're new to Hellboy, though. It builds on things that have come before (most notably The Storm and the Fury); of course, I recommend reading all of Hellboy in any case.

Mignola is like my idol both in visual art and writing. He is who I wanna be when I get outta college. Has he EVER had a bad book?
Picked up some from last week too because I was busy then The Punisher #5 Justice League 3000 #6 Hellboy in Hell #6 Deadpool #28 Astro City #12 Quantum & Woody #10 All-New Ghost Rider #3
Is JL3000 any good or does it suffer for the rampant unnecessarily dickish behavior in the DC universe?
Is JL3000 any good or does it suffer for the rampant unnecessarily dickish behavior in the DC universe?
Yes to both? A good deal of the humor comes from the Leaguers acting 'off' from their modern-day counterparts. Due to the cloning/recreation process, they have some memories and recollections of their versions from a millenia ago, but since they didn't experience it themselves their personalities are altered. For example, 3000!Superman was not raised by the kindly, small-town Kents but rather was cloned up fully formed, with the knowledge that he was the biggest and greatest hero. As a result, he's a showboating braggart who hates being called "Clark". Unfortunately for him, the cloning process didn't perfectly recreate his powers - he can't fly and doesn't have heat vision, so his prideful show-offs often fall flat. Now usually I hate asshole Superman (it's why I read Action Comics but not Justice League) but I love this dope. Watching him butt heads with Batman, hit on Wonder Woman, attempt to take charge of the League, and smack-talk bad guys is endlessly entertaining. Kind of like Guy Gardner in JLI, I suppose. I'm also a sucker for alternate universe stories, be they elseworlds or what if?s. I love seeing these borked versions of the heroes, through visuals, personalities, and settings, play out.
Hey, I don't really read comics, but I really wanna get started. I'm a huge DC fan, even though I love Marvel's X-men, Spiderman, and Iron Man. So, I always wondered.. I really want to start on the Batman comic, FROM THE START, but I don't know where to start? Is it even possible to find a copy of the first Batman comic online? I don't know, It's pretty sad that I didn't grow up in America, then I would find it a lot easier to just buy comics and ask about this stuff.. Anyone that can help me?

I suggest making your way to the DC Comics app and getting Batman Eternal. It's a... Batman miniseries, you might say, focusing not only on the Big Bad Bat but also on his supporting cast. Issue 6 just came out, so you can get all of them and catch up in one afternoon or such.

Comixology has a good number of the old issues availible digitally; if you want them in print, look for the Batman Archives series. Although trying to get into Batman from the beginning is admirable, there's a lot of stuff and fluff in that 75-year body of work. I recommend looking up the DC Entertainment Essential Graphic Novels and Chronology (the 2014 edition literally just came out, but the 2013 one should be fine) - it's a free ebook that lists some of the best story arcs and graphic novels. Plus, it includes a "Backlist and Suggested Reading Order" of 107 Batman comics to read. If you can't get a copy of it, I'd be happy to scan mine for you. I'd recommend skipping the first 40 years or so and jumping to the 80s with something like Year One. Alternatively, you could start in the New 52 - in 2011, DC did a reboot on their series, starting every comic over from #1. Batman, Detective Comics, The Dark Knight, Batman & Robin, and Batman, Inc. were the new Bat-series. They do require some knowledge of previous comics, but were designed to be more-or-less new reader friendly. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about reading everything in order - most of my comic-reading has been done by grabbing something at the library that looked cool. You can just look up who a character is if you don't know who they are or want to learn more. Hellboy and B.P.R.D. are the two best things I have ever read. Like anyone who has any interest should pick them up right away. Fantastic stuff.
I need to get into more Mignola-verse stuff. I tried reading Hollow Earth but it didn't really grab me, I should give it another shot.
You might like Skullkickers. It's an ongoing comic series but they're posting the back-issues page-by-page in a webcomic format. Skullkickers is a D&D-esque sword-and-sorcery action/comedy that follows the bounty-hunting adventures of a human gunner and dwarf fighter. [t]http://cdn.bloody-disgusting.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/skullkickers03-p6-9.jpg[/t] Might be a little more rustic than what you're shooting for, but a good read regardless.

First storyline has to do with this cool Illuminati-esque organization, then you get Joker and Riddler and whatnot.

It's the most recent one.
Or just go to /co/. They've never once steered me wrong.
- I already have Star Wars: In the Shadow of Yavin and Arkham City (the comic). The space battles in my comic will most likely be influenced by that Star Wars comic.
I haven't read that one - what sort of elements will you be borrowing from those space battles? The sort of attitude that Star Wars has going for its space battles is that of a naval battle in the Second World War. You have these starships that fill battleship/aircraft carrier roles, as well as smaller ships that handle like planes. There's a lot of emphasis on the latter, with many action sequences taking place in X-Wings and such. The trench run itself was inspired by some WW2 movie whose name I forget. Compare this to Star Trek's space battles, wherein there are no fighters. Confrontations are generally between two very large ships with crews of hundreds. The action is much slower and focuses on the decisions of the captain. Ships aren't annihilated but instead slowly take damage to certain systems, much in the way a ship would sink. There are even ships analogous to submarines - look at the second movie, where Khan 'submerges' in a nebula and 'surfaces' to fire. Then there's the concept of 'defenses', 'pursuits', 'mines', and 'blockades' when in most real situations none of these will work. Space battles can only happen with the consent of both belligerents. Thinking of space as a giant ocean often leads to battles fought with two dimensions; it makes it feel like any old war story exported to space. So, is there any reason why this should be done with a completely original comic? I'm sure battles done in three dimensions and microgravity can be just as exciting. Maybe it's the composition? Maybe it makes lighting harder? Whatever it is, I'd be interested in seeing something that doesn't do what I've outlined above. Maybe some thought should be given to which ships fight? Real spaceships don't handle like fighters or dreadnaughts, so do battles even have to be fought like that? There's an inherent risk of being blown out of the sky whenever you move within the effective range of a laser (which is pretty far). A solution is to decrease their effective range with mirrors or increasing the impulse of the spacecraft. If you have FTL drives that can mount to anything, do you even have to fight with ships? What about flinging some rocks from twenty light years away? Should space battles be happening at all? If you have the technology to fling rocks in from twenty light years away, couldn't you just wipe out any planet you wanted before you fought with ships? I guess all I'm saying is that you should craft your space battles carefully so they follow their own internal logic, and that you can get more interesting action by treating space like space.
Goddamnit I really want to own physical copy of Blackest Night, Brightest Day and Injustice Year One and Two.
So someone rated this funny. Lemmie explain what this is anything but funny. Essentially, it's a psychological horror where the Sub Mariner is the monster. (I'm serious) You actually don't know if he exists or everybody is going stir crazy in the submarine they're trapped in. He's built up as a legend sailors who work in submarines tell. He guards Atlantis and kills the fuck out of anybody who seeks the sunken city. I haven't finished it, but at the point I'm at, off screen, he supposedly [sp]brutally murdered, like mutilated and tore apart, the crew of an under seas base.[/sp] He isn't some silly dude with wings on his feet and a speedo, no sir, you do NOT fuck with Namor in this comic. So far, I haven't seen Namor except for one small glimpse, and that was only his hands and faint glowing eyes outside of the sub in the dark depths of the sea. I wish he wasn't on the cover, there is a fuck load of mystery surrounding him in this, and it's actually very unsettling. Also the art work is incredible: [t]http://michaelmay.us/08blog/11/1112_smdepths2watcher.jpg[/t][t]https://dcomixologyssl.sslcs.cdngc.net/i/1811/50587/1e8a6ed5d5baed52117bf4f590adbe08.jpg?h=e860b0729d49db0b209fb30c2be96a64[/t] This is easily one of my favorite comics at this point. [editline]butts[/editline] So I just finished The Depths. The pacing is a bit odd at the end but Jesus Christ was that a good read. The title character makes almost no appearances yet his presence is felt, watching, waiting. That shit was gripping and engaginging as all hell. Get this book if you can, you will not be dissapointed.
Oh shit that actually sounds really good, I may read it. :v:
Huge vertigo nut here. I will say I'm pretty pumped for Constantine the new tv series cause I read the hell out of John's comic so my recommendation for you all to read is Preacher. It's really over the top but it's freaking awesome, one of the best comics I think ever written. Seriously, read this.
All-New Ghost Rider #3 was so great - blistering, crazy action and some very interesting backstory about this new spirit of vengeance.

This should be just as good too then.
Haven't collected floppy issues in a while. I've been trying to get Marvel omnibuses and DC absolute editions before they go out of print and subsequently expensive. I miss the days when comic book collecting was simple. Back then, all I needed was Superman/Batman/Spawn. These days, I've invested so much in other comics and haven't even made progress in the books I originall started with.
I'm considering switching to trade-waiting on most of my books. Because I pull 2-4 books a week, I pay almost as much as a collection every week or so. It would be neat if there was a floppies-for-trades exchange program - send in your single issue(s) for a discount on the collected edition.
I prefer to buy the collected editions. But that's just because I'm impatient and don't like waiting for the next issue in a single story arc.
Anybody read Beasts of Burden? I really enjoy that series.
Reading the latest All-New X-Men, and apparently there's a guy who looks just like Mystique... except it's a guy. So I don't know if it's Mystique as a guy or some guy who looks like Mystique.

Are the Army of Darkness comics any good?
if you haven't read y: the last man you're missing out [t]http://i.imgur.com/z9UbqQh.jpg[/t]
I'm pretty hype to read Y: The Last Man and Preacher, got both. Gonna finish up on my Hellblazer first though.
Are the Army of Darkness comics any good?
I got the Omnibus on Comixology, I love the hell out of it. There's a part where he meets Herbert West and it crosses into the Cthulu mythos. Another one has Ash fight Freddy and Jason.
