What maximum tightness where? IIRC when I was doing bench press when I went to gym some years ago I just did the up down motion while making sure I wasn't falling off the bench. Was I terribly wrong in doing so?
Nothing terrible, everything is a learning experience.
Different needs, different styles. Was there a question here ?
[editline]1st January 2012[/editline]
@Seith: Yep, you're assuming right then. I've never spoken about actually having maximal tightness, just trying to my best to get there. And tucking my
elbows in is just another factor. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until now.
Thanks anyhow for your input :)
@Major Helper: Just saw your post. There are different tiny tricks you can use to trick your CNS into giving you more power for short time. If your goal is
to isolate the muscle group(s), then you wouldn't do this.
If you're already tucking your elbows why not follow the technique as it is written ? Tuck elbows, arch back, push traps and back to bench, lower to lower chest upper abs, push legs back...
What do you think I'll be doing ?
The underlying question was what WuWei answered. Cheers.

Now I know. Great.
It has been a couple months since I started SL 5x5. As it is a beginners program should I no longer continue it? Where would I go now if I were to continue strength training?
You guys seem like the most reliable/knowledgeable people than if I were to google some crap or find some routine by somebody who does not know what they are doing.
I just noticed creatine bloats me up like shit. What the fuck. I can push my stomach like 2 inches out

stick with it for atleast half a year or a bit more
Do you drive with your legs for both barbell rows and deadlifts? I think I'm relying on my back for both exercises. It aches like mad. I'm gonna tape myself soon, I think my form is fuct up
Tape it just in case. And you should be feeling fatigued in the back on both exercises.
Yo guys, I've just changed my training schedule. My old one had too many exercises and did more harm than good.
I need some feedback on the new one. It's pretty simple and core'ish.
day 1:
Barbell squat
Barbell Bench press
Seated cable row
Pull-ups
day 2
Dead lift
one-arm dumbbell row
seated dumbbell shoulder press
Pull-ups
Also note, that I've been challenged by my brother, to see who can do the most pull-ups. Deadline is first of june.

Dude.. what are you thinking about.. dumbbell sqauts is waaay more effective bro.

Yeah my lower back ached a little just now. I'm still failing at the barbell rows though. I have no clue how to keep proper form on that one, and it's impossible for me to bring the bar up to my chest.

Keep trying, use lower weight. Lower chest, upper abs.

So I have a question, how does one actually prepare the barbell (olympic) for exercises such as deadlifts and bent-over rows? I often find myself bringing the bar off the squat rack and placing it on the bars that extend out of it, then load it, and get on with the exercise.
woot 300g of creatine for $15
i only dose like 1-2g cuz im tiny buuut
when do you take creatine? After workout, before a workout?
load and then take the normal dose . take it whenever

u do ur squats of 500 lbs and then on that last rep u scream and push to the top and let it fall
then u get yelled at and dead lift it and power clean it back to the rack
Did my first day of training for football...
5x5 never prepared me for the horror that is overhead squats. Id rather commit genocide on a mass scale than ever do another one.

Also, where do I put my hands on the bar when doing bench presses? Do you put them on the little rings on the bar, or do you put them shoulder width?

Depends on what you wanna train.. Someone correct me but i think it's like..
The closer your hands are to the middle, the more it works out your triceps. But if your hands are farther, it works out your chest (and some triceps)
