What are some average Starting Strength starting weights for new lifters?
It entirely depends on the individual. There is obviously a reasonable range for beginners on certain lifts but it's really just variable. Just go to the gym and start light to get a feel of everything and go up until you've found a weight where you can do around 6 reps or so (amount of reps also depends on what your goals are) [editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
sounds like a gomad
This guy has great abs genetics [editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
I'm 5'7" and 128 pounds can I do shotput guise?
Can you stop shitposting and actually contribute?
What are some average Starting Strength starting weights for new lifters?
dont be a faggot and worry about everyone else in comparison to you. just make sure you have the right 5rm and remember to do starting strength practical programming instead of the other kinds ( wichita falls is fine too)
I have changed my mind, still want to get stronger. Starting next week no more bullshitting around, going to do more work in the weight room, more core work, doing swim class for some cardio and going to get my diet in check. This year is the year i will break the illinois state record in shot put and become the strongest kid ever at my school.
This is the year I prove my dad an idiot for thinking my changes toward becoming stronger and healthy is a fad.

I wish I had more motivation to work out more often and get in shape. Being skinny just doesn't seem to give enough motivation for a full-time workout schedule

Don't be a fucking wimp. And not just that.. Do your friends make fun of you?? Well then prove them wrong. They don't make fun of you? STILL PROVE SOMETHING TO THEM. Don't be a pussy.
Hah, lifting to prove something to others? Lift for getting the chance to enter Valhalla:
I read that apart from a calorie surplus you have to take other supplements when taking whey protein for it to have any effect. Is this true?
Nope, whey protein (or any protein shake for that matter) is effective on it's own. You drink protein, your body uses it. Simple as that :)

Is it possible to lose weight while increasing in strength? I have dropped over 2 stone (roundabouts 24ish pounds I think) over my massive cut. Am still cutting till I have lost my gut, but I also want to get stronger. Is it likely for me to make any noticable strength gains whilst I finish my cut? Just asking becuase if I continue my cut now, I'll have to maintain it throughout Summer and I don't fancy being stalled at an unrespectable 30 pounds till Autumn (Please bear in mind I was an overweight guy before, who had trouble running 10 metres and would have trouble picking up five pounds).
Yeah it's possible. You cannot gain muscle mass though.
Losing fat while making gains in strength is entirely possible. Losing fat while putting on muscle is possible, but entirely unlikely.
Continue to cut, you'll still get stronger. Over time you'll learn your body (2 years or so) and you'll know what to do. Just research a little everday or so.
You can definitely gain strength on a cut. It's the central nervous system that gets trained in maximum strength efforts. The better your CNS, the more electric impulses it can send to your muscles to contract. More + stronger impulse -> stronger contraction with more moving elements in your muscles (contractile proteins) -> more tension -> more strength
There are lots of other variables too that affect strength without correlating much with mass. Amount of mitochondrions, ATP storages ect.
Thanks guys! You have all been really informative, and I appreciate it lots. Time to cut down to dat 10% bf over this year then (and hopefully increase all my lifts alot too).
nvm
Speaking of strength. Any tips for gaining strength, but without gaining much mass? Other than low reps and +-0 calories. I don't want to gain weight at this point cause I'm aiming to improve my running.
lift as usual eat at maintenance
Any opinions on the 10x10 German Volume Training? [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] By George Turner
Never heard of it before today, looks p good, very difficult though, depening on your experience level. I'm no little bitch about fat, but during my training i'm going to be eating fuck loads, so I want to do a cardio sesh or three per week to keep it in like. What would be a good intensity and duration for lengths of breathstroke?
not for beginners

And look into olympic lifts.
did my first gym session today, i am pooped feels good though
