I need help Okay, so when I'm doing bent-over BB Rows, it feels like i'm using my biceps more than I am my back how does one go about eliminating this?
So, verify correct form and keep at it? Possibly some arm work? (The book "Starting Strength" says Chinups)
If you can rule out fatigue out of that equation, then you should see where exactly is it in the bench you're having a hard time with. Obviously squat and deads will go up, as you obviously have a lot more time under tension and a general higher workload per week/month for your legs. Is it that same case for your triceps/chest? hmm :) but, if you are doing the basic ss routine, I say keep it up, for at least 6 month to a year, depending on how progressive your bench still etc etc. If you're already a year in, then I suggest switching to a program that will fit your mechanical advantages better. [editline]11th January 2012[/editline]
Is it okay if i skip a workout? When i come home from wrestling practice everything fucking hurts. Seriously wrestling's gonna break me someday. My wrists, my back, my knee, my ankle, my neck, my shoulders. The fuck man. Bye gains.
Listen to your body. :) [editline]11th January 2012[/editline]
On the second week of Stronglifts 5x5. What do you guys eat before and post workout? Just wanna get some suggestions on what to eat.
an hour before I usually eat a piece of bread with 3 slices of balony. wow [editline]11th January 2012[/editline]
I need help Okay, so when I'm doing bent-over BB Rows, it feels like i'm using my biceps more than I am my back how does one go about eliminating this?
taking in consideration the bicep in this movements eliminates rotatory movements around the join, you will always feel it whether you like it or not. But trust me, if you're using the right form, the biceps should eventually keep up. Also, be happy, most people would like bigger biceps;) I rarely feel mine whatsoever... [editline]11th January 2012[/editline]
What's your opinion on this one fellas. Kicked off a 12wk program last week. Current weight: 81.5kg Body fat %: NFI, seriously who carries around a pair of fucking calipers Daily diet consists of target of ~2400 calories. Typical daily intake: Breakie - 2 eggs (with wholemeal toast if no oatmeal), cup of OJ, oatmeal/whey protein Meal 2 - 100g Tuna, muesli bar Lunch - 2 eggs (or replaced with whey protein), pasta/mince meat/chicken (1 cup) Meal 4 - 100g tuna, 190g plain yoghurt + 1 cup of blueberries Dinner - 2 eggs, pasta/chicken/mince meat, 1 cup OJ Post WO - whey protein, muesli bar, spacefood stick Average protein intake is around 140g Average carbs intake is around 160-200g 3 days per week of workout, split across Mon, Wed, Fri. Monday: BB front squats, Romanian deadlifts, BB calf raises, Weighted crunches Wednesday: Benchpress, Shoulder press, tricep extensions Friday: Deadlift, Pull-ups, DB seated bicep curls Typical sets of 3-4 with reps of 6-10 depending on the lift. Yes I know that's a very light on set, but I've sporadically done more complex sets in the past and I don't really stick with it for more than a few weeks due to so much fucking around. I figure if I get into this one for at least a month I can add variation and routine if required. Or am I just wasting my time? Goal is to lose body fat and gain muscle. I'm an athletic build and would typically be aiming to gain mass straight up, but the layer of fat floating around my stomach is giving me the shits hence the body fat reduction goal.
You're wasting your time obviously because as you've said you "don't really stick to it" for whatever reasons you got going on in your life. I am tired my friend, find your path on your own.
Hey FP, is there any serious differences between using soya and using whey protein? I vaguely remember someone saying that the trytophan in soya was detrimental, but i'm not too sure.
Hey FP, is there any serious differences between using soya and using whey protein? I vaguely remember someone saying that the trytophan in soya was detrimental, but i'm not too sure.
I see only benefits right now.
I know this isn't post your statistics but... I can now squat 325 5x5 and I'm almost 17 at 5'5, I weight 170lbs at 11% BF. I feel pretty beast, should I? [editline]11th January 2012[/editline] Also, fuck being sick, I can't even go work out, I'm sweating like a bitch, sucks because I almost never get sick...
Hey FP, is there any serious differences between using soya and using whey protein? I vaguely remember someone saying that the trytophan in soya was detrimental, but i'm not too sure.
Soy protein is a trypsin inhibitor. The problem here is that the inhibitor has an effect on a certain percentage of ALL the protein you consume. Meaning that to some degree your overall protein synthesis isn't as great. There a bunch of other problems with soy protein that are debatable, but I won't go into them here or this post will take all day. Needless to say, I'm of the opinion that soy protein is nasty as fuck. If you can't/don't want to dairy milk proteins, there are plenty of alternatives: hemp, rice, goat whey, egg, etc. Goat whey is pretty interesting, I've often heard about supposed advantages of goat's milk over cow's milk, but personally I've always found goat milk nasty tasting and especially nasty smelling. So whey powder would bypass all that.

Still feeling sore after my first day back on monday, hopefully it will go away soon. Any tips for getting rid of soreness? I heard suspending the muscles in water, like in a bath, can be good.
pain in muscles? need to work out again
pain in muscles? need to work out again
this benching sore = feels good man
did 5x5 maxed out my squat PR on Tuesday. today am asked to demonstrate bench 12x3 by my coach. almost same weight, challenge accepted.
@soreness Contrast baths, warm baths, different salves, very light cardio, light massage and a nap help with soreness.
Guess i'll bathe then, and go workout tomorrow.
