im thinking of getting some dumbells how much weight should a good dumbell be able to carry without bending or breaking?

I'm trying to come up with a proper routine to do at home. I have a dumbbell set, with 2 bars and 40lbs of weight, and a workout bench with 140lbs in weights, one barbell, a pull bar and a leg thing.
So far I just mix and match what ever for as long as I can. I've been using that fitocracy site to try and make a proper routine, but not exactly sure where to start.

Where I live, some go up to 60. A larger can that is, the other reg sized ones are about 35.

2 scoops of chocolate protein powder
(flax seed if you have it)
blend together and drink.
Perfect nutritious breakfast for bulking on the go.

I mean as in, sitting there, weight in one hand and letting it down between your legs and lifting it back up? I've seen people do it but I never see you guys talk about it, unless it has a different name here or something

Fuck. Football. The coach was a rediculous asshole who put me on varsity levels for my first time playing a sport. Now ive got 2 fucked calves and a fucked shoulder. (the shoulder died down till i tried to lift earlier.) Im trying to convince my parents to bring me to a doctor to get it checked out because my dad fucked his shoulder up in his 20s and he still cant work out well. I dont want to have a screwed up shoulder forever, but my mom is saying "Your dad turned out fine, but you can take it up with him."
Sorry for the venting, but shit man.

The joys of home gyms! overracked my bar doing squats on one side, bar falls back on said side, causing the other side to squish my fingers. Can't wait for our move so i can go to a gym!
With a hurt shoulder, could i do body weight exercises/light DB exercises until it gets to feeling better? I really dont want to just sit it out
You can do light exercises but avoid using your shoulder, even for very light exercise; it'll just prolong the time it takes for it to heal
it would be better to rest , eat above maint . ice it until inflammation goes down then heat it . alot of lower body exercises put stress on the shoulder aswell. just calm down and rest
