Oh, that sucks, I would have liked to continue to gain strength through my cut, stupid of me to think I could really... I am trying to get from 17% body fat to something like 6-10%, to hazard a guess, how many months do you think it will take me? Could I achieve it by the end of the year?
should be able to reach 10% in like 7 weeks.
Thanks man, should be easy.
I was halfway through my fourth day of SL 5x5, when this PT came up to me, (this guy knows what he is talking about, he trains Mr. East Anglia), he told me that at my age, 14, I really should not be doing SL, as the 5x5 reps make your bones panic and grow or something? And this makes it difficult to close the joint, essentially, he said that this rep range can cause bone joint and ligament problems. He suggested I do the same exercises, but lower weight and higher rep ranges, he said do three sets, 12, 10 and 8. I was only doing this program because I asked on the facebook page if it was okay for me, and they said it was... Do you guys think I should disregard his advice ans continue, or start working on muscle mass instead of strength training, that was his problem with it, he said strength training was bad for me?
Sounds like a broscientist just like 3/4 of all PTs are. Disregard him.
You already said he knows his shit; listen to him.
Yeah, he sure does know his stuff, but I am really enjoying SL so far, and I feel it would be a shame to simply stop doing it, I could start doing isolation?
Keep at it, but have a decent explanation why you disregarded his advice and continued. Do your research and find out WHY it's okay for you to continue with stronglifts 5x5 at such a young age.
Whats the best rep range for basic work outs, bench, dead, squat and military press, if I'm on a gaining diet. As in how many sets and reps?

Lmao "bone panic" Hth being a trainer for a bodybuilder doesn't mean a fucking thing.
So I went to the gym today with my friend and both of us have been doing the sl 5x5 workout for about a week. I'm doing p. good since I know the correct form for the lifts since I use to do them before. But my friend is totally new to working out. His squats and barbell row looked bad and he didn't even do the full set of deadlifts (I told him not too because he was using his back to much and we would focus on that next week). My dad gave me money to buy private lessons for the both of us with the owner/trainer there, not really for me but for my friend. I've seen the guy before and he's swole so I thought why not, I may learn something new. First part of the lesson, he was teaching proper form and different ways of doing the lifts and how to warm up before working out. Then I asked him to show my friend how to do deadlifts properly. He said unless I wanted to become an olympic lifter (which I don't), we didn't really need to do them. Then I asked how else do I work my lower back? He suggested Romanian deadlift and some other lifts for the lats. He also suggested instead of a 5x5 workout, a 3 set with increasing weight for 12-10-8 reps. I used to do that in school and I did like it and it did build my strength and I noticed some progress. I'm just wondering is this good for gaining strength and getting swole. I wouldn't mind if the 12-10-8 would take longer to get swole but I want to know if it's actually good. The trainer has been working out for 20 years and he's buddies have workout 30 years, all swole.
12-10-8 is fine for building mass. But he's pretty fucking dumb if he thinks deadlifts are useless for anyone other than OLs
Wow, just realized a guy above me posted something really similar to what I wrote, but our trainer didn't suggest it because we are young, just because I also do sports (i guess the higher reps are for endurance) [editline]21st August 2011[/editline]
12-10-8 is fine for building mass. PTs are babbymen who can't get a real job in physiology like a nutritionist.
No one answered my question before so I'll answer it again. Does muscle mass grow quicker with heavier weights? I.E. Will I get better results lifting 5x5 for a few months then switching to more reps when I can lift a good amount (say, 180lbs x 10 on bench for example) or if I just started now with a weight I can do 10 reps with?
I think 5 sets of 5 is gay compared to doing like 5 sets of 15,12,10,8,6 reps.
I think 5 sets of 5 is gay compared to doing like 5 sets of 15,12,10,8,6 reps.
5x5 is far superior. Why start decorating the building when it ain't got no foundations yet? Too tired to answer like my good ol' self.

What do you guys think of Mike Changs six pack shortcuts channel, not the whole six pack thing, but the other videos and info he comes out with, a lot of it sounds like bro science.

People tend to forget the value of building their strength for greater hypertrophy, there's nothing better than the deadlift for teaching your body explosive strength.
I explode so much I shit myself constantly when dling over 9000 kg's.
What do you guys think of Mike Changs six pack shortcuts channel, not the whole six pack thing, but the other videos and info he comes out with, a lot of it sounds like bro science.
idk as a rule I don't tend to read/view any thing fitness related that has the words "six pack" in the title.
idk as a rule I don't tend to read/view any thing fitness related that has the words "six pack" in the title.
Yeah, I know what you mean, sounds kind of stupid, but his videos that actually explain certain things and how to have correct form are pretty great, I wasn't too sure about some of his weight loss explanations though.
well after 6 months of weighted leg lifts, I'm sure I don't have the genetics for an eight pack
well after 6 months of weighted leg lifts, I'm sure I don't have the genetics for an eight pack
weighted leg lifts won't do shit if you don't have low enough bodyfat
What do you guys think of Mike Changs six pack shortcuts channel, not the whole six pack thing, but the other videos and info he comes out with, a lot of it sounds like bro science.
Watched the video on his website, seems kinda bullshit. Sure probably works (just like any similiar workout) but he's just trying to sell his expensive workout videos. Reminds me of tv-shop ads.
What do you guys think of Mike Changs six pack shortcuts channel, not the whole six pack thing, but the other videos and info he comes out with, a lot of it sounds like bro science.
complete bullshit broscience, disregard the fuck out of them [editline]21st August 2011[/editline] sources: watched a few videos and couldnt stand more than 2 minutes due to strong broscience
my friends at the gym are legit brolifters brb lift for entire school year then take 3 months off summer holidays and lose all your gains why the fuck do they even bother?
What the fuck are they doing that they lose their gains hth it is actually really fucking hard to lose muscle unless you are starving yourself or doing something equally stupid.
What the fuck are they doing that they lose their gains hth it is actually really fucking hard to lose muscle unless you are starving yourself or doing something equally stupid.
no idea well this one guy said he lost 20kg because he played soccer all day long and didn't eat fuc and he does look skinnier than when I last saw him
weighted leg lifts won't do shit if you don't have low enough bodyfat
I went really low body fat, and a little plate popped out by like half a millimeter instead of the 4th row of abs. I'm gonna be stuck with arnold abs forever T_T in other news MY CALVES WILL BLOCK OUT THE SUN
