Yes if people shoulder pressed as much as they benched guess how many people wouldn't look like shit
every time i shoulder press i tie a brick to my dick and let it swing back and forth so my muscles and dick can hypnotize the women walking by.
Not brown fat, subcutaneous fat. Had a brain fart.
Anyway, the spot men tend to store it in when they are already fairly lean is in the love handles and under the belly button.

Brown fat, heck yeah ! Believe it or not, there is actually brown adipose tissue or brown fat. But it's not just an energy storage for your body, it actually BURNS calories.
Babies and small mammals have the biggest amount of this tissue, and we adults were thought to lose everything reaching adulthood.
Actually there is still some left, even if much less: around the neck and the chest.
It takes a role in keeping your body temperature high and as such, can be made more active by exposing oneself to coldness !
You use energy basically doing nothing.

What are the negatives of doing all barbell exercises (squats, deadlifts, benchpressing) in a smith cage? People say it's awful when starting out, and I'm better off doing all those exercises with dumbbells since my shitty school weight room has only one barbell, and it's in a smith cage.

I'm pretty sure a barbell has no disadvantages when starting, it probably has advantages, in fact.
And I use a smith cage for all my 5x5 exercises, hah.

Well no fucking wonder, you're that guy that constantly listens to PTs.
Okay, so any ideas as to what a realistic goal could be for me?
Well no fucking wonder, you're that guy that constantly listens to PTs.
What. I listen to them, and then do what I want to do, thank you very much.
You want to start out on free weight first to develop muscle stabilization. Or else you can just start off n a smith machine...stick with that for a year then end up bench pressing like this
Well i'm sorry, i'm 14 years old, and I don't want to get more injured than I already am.
Well i'm sorry, i'm 14 years old, and I don't want to get more injured than I already am.
Listen here bro, your 14.
Stop worrying.
My friend tyler, hes 14. You know what else? He weighs 135. You want to know something else too?!
He benches 280, squats 450(repping) and deadlifts around his squats.
Stop worrying about things that can go wrong, if you live by that logic, you might as well sit in a padded room and beat off with a glove, never leaving and exploring life.
ATG squat or hips-below-parallel squat?

Which is "better"?

Hm, muscle stabilization you say? Well we don't want that to be off do we... I guess i'll start doing my exercises without the machine, and see how it goes, the only problem is my arm, it's all crippled and shit, and sometimes gives way under pressure.

The only way to strengthen that arm is to work it out. When you first bench, you rgoing to be wobbly as fuck, moving the bar on each side for the first few times. Give it a week, or two, and your body will get really accustomed to it. If you notice one arm is stronger, start doing dumb bell benchpress with same weight, just do 2 more reps on the weak arm.
had a chocolate shake today. time to skip dinner and do HIIT :(
Ive stopped trying to count my calories and just begin eating everything i can stuff in my face.
Working pretty well, packed on 5 pounds in 2 weeks, and its mostly muscle. Not much fat as my bf perecentage seems to be the same, as the way i can see my muscles.
woop

Will doing forearm exercises help it? Because the bone is the problem, I broke it a few years ago, and after they put the metal in I got a blood clot, it's been really fucked up ever since.

If you feel like you need more work, after benching do 3 sets 8 reps of the forearm curls with a dumbbell
I just looked into the disadvantages of a smith machine... I'm stupid, I am very, very stupid.
Hmm, true the smith machine does have a huge disadvantage but when I began to work my legs that would be the machine I would rely on just to build some muscle so free wait would be easier. It's also a good way to get form down in my opinion. Oh and if you ask me, if you really want to build your chest and are taking into account the locked plane motion of bench and smith then do dumbbell bench press. It's far superior in terms of working full range of motion and minor muscles within the shoulder and chest.

I don't feel it in my chest when I do flys. I'm pretty sure I do them wrong.
I'm going to youtube...
If my gym have one, I will start to train with a power rack, as I actually know how, if they don't, then I guess i'll manage to figure it out.
On a lighter note, i'm going in for my sixth day of SL in a few.

[editline]24th August 2011[/editline]

I'd go with ATG until you build a decent foundation, then you can combine ATG and parallel.
Yes, my gym lacks a power rack. Which pieces of equipment should I use for squats and overhead press? Do correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think I need any for rows and deadlifts.
Why would you think that?
I mean, I could just pick up the bar, with the discs on, and start the exercise, but with squats and overhead press, I don't really know what I would use.
Silly me, squat rack, just like a smith machine, but you take a step forward. What about the overhead press though?
