u nerdes should just go to the gym and pick stuff up and put it down. srsly. jezzus
So I'm relatively new to the weightlifting scene (I'm on the normal Starting Strength routine, with the exception of barbell rows instead of power cleans since the gym here at my college doesn't allow it....), and the other day (last Thursday) I kind of strained my right hip adductor. I worked out today but didn't do a whole lot of weight on my squats (2x5x45, 1x5x75, 1x5x105, then 2x5x75 because 105 made it really start hurting(current max is 145 though)). Would it be better for me to just completely rest my legs until it is better, or keep squatting at a low weight, or what? I'm just new and I don't want to fuck anything up because I'd really like to keep progressing....
Any of you guys do shadowboxing?
Any of you guys do shadowboxing?
yea why
[editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
actually, there should be a fighting thread tbh.
and on that topic. Just had a 5 hour 1 on 1 session with my muay thai teacher. Learned, so, fucking, much its unreal.
[editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
actually I probably burned like a 2000 calories in that session, not even fucking kidding.
i need to last longer. i hold onto dumbbells in front of mirror and start flailing my arms in a boxing fashion
-snip- already been asked
In that article.. it says if you stop taking creatine after a long time of taking it you lose your muscle. Is that true? do you lose ALL your gains which you got from using creatine? I wanna build muscle and keep it. And i also want GOOD muscle. Aesthetics don't matter. I just want lots of strong muscle. I take whey protein after everty workout i do (i take about 52Grams in 2 percent fat milk) so should i switch to creatine?
NO.
You do not lose your gains. Unless you somehow cause your body to enter a state of catabolism it's literally impossible to lose muscle tissue. The new tissue built while on creatine is built exactly the same way it would be when you weren't supplementing. The only difference is your gains will be improved.
If you come off creatine completely and you've gone down to baseline levels again, you might hold a little less water inside the muscle, making your muscles appear slightly less full, but you will not have lost any physical muscle tissue.
Anyone know what happens to wasted creatine? (ex. take creatine, do nothing) Does it just pass through your body, or maybe it can be harmful?
metabolized and excreted. It's not harmful.
i need to last longer. i hold onto dumbbells in front of mirror and start flailing my arms in a boxing fashion
sounds like a bad idea.
i wouldn't recommend even practicing punches if you don't know the form 100%. If you ever do learn how to box, you're muscle memory has already been taught the wrong way and it will be hard to break that. Plus flailing is pretty worthless if you don't have your form down anyway. Also holding dumbbells and punching isn't that effective at anything.
It's not like I'm doing windmills like 99% of other schoolboys that do it in fights.
nah bro, you gotta have form down 100% or else you're just creating bad habits lol.
[editline]12th September 2011[/editline]
also i should recommend you take some fighting/self defense classes in some gym somewhere by your house. I wish I took them while I was in highschool, because one could say I was a little timid back then. Boosts confidence when dealing with pricks.
dumbells are for strength, usually
repetition builds endurance, toning and muscle memory which is what you want
aka go practice boxing
I'm already strapped on cash.
Maybe I can pick up something on this week's drill.
I did a workout Sunday morning, usually I go swimming Mondays but I'm wondering if I should go now. My muscles are quite soare so would it hinder my recovery?

Maybe I am the fool, but I always swim for 45 minutes to an hour after my workout, I find it relaxing, and helps my recovery.
Well I usually gun it and go all out. Maybe I should still go but just have a relaxing swim instead

Hmm.. so what exactly can even trigger a catabolic state?
Hmm.. so what exactly can even trigger a catabolic state?
Actual starvation or extended fasting, hormonal crash, certain drugs, muscle wasting diseases, etc.
I.E stuff that won't actually ever happen unless you're a dumbass (marathon runner) or catch a nasty disease or something.

it does
doing more reps at a lower weight makes you more toned, but also makes you the jackass who stares at himself in the corner thinking he's buff
and of course just doing bodybuilding workouts does you better in the end

You just proved what I said, thank you.
Now get out and educate yourself before spouting bullshit.

you have no idea what you are talking about
toned simply means you have less body fat
if you want big muscles, lift heavy weights.

that's exactly what I just said ???
by doing repetitious activity you are burning energy instead of gaining strength which gets rid of fat
rate this post dumb if you can't read and like circlejerks

the calories burned by doing high rep low weight weight lifting is nothing compared to cardio.
the calories burned by doing high rep low weight weight lifting is nothing compared to cardio.
i didn't say it was and I didn't cite high rep weightlifting as a valued source of burning calories
i didn't say it was and I didn't cite high rep weightlifting as a valued source of burning calories
No.
It's not 'valued' at all, it's retarded and a waste of time.
[editline]12th September 2011[/editline]
Oh and your CNS won't be really happy about it either

that's what I was saying
just do normal reps and normal weights to add bulk, and cardio if you get fat
my bad for making that terribly unclear
"toned"
"toned"
it was a bad choice of vocabulary and if I knew everyone'd get their panties in a twist I'd have revised
