Also, I kinda think the trolls were a bit much. I like them and all, in fact Terezi is one of my favorite characters in the whole thing, but adding 12 new main characters was too much for Andrew to handle.
It just seems like he took WAY too much attention away from the four kids. Now you get more troll updates than kid updates, its very annoying. I used to think Rose and Jade were cool characters, now they are so sidelined, I honestly don't care anymore. I have no interest in whatever Jade is up to anymore, because he decided to explain it, and then never talk about it again, because god forbid we don't focus on the trolls for a little while. Then we hear nothing from Rose for a while, and when we finally do hear from her, she just goes "grimdark" and then dies. I felt nothing when I found out she was dead. Certainly doesnt help that you hear it second hand in a "recap". I mean he just jumps around from plot-line to plot-line without establishing ANYTHING. It just ends on a cliffhanger and then "lets see what *TOTALLY UNRELATED CHARACTER* is up to!" then repeat ad nauseum.
Ugh, the whole story just feels like such a mess now. Sorry if I'm ranting. :frown:
With the trolls, I felt he made 12 of them to see what would stick. The fact that half of them have been killed off tells me that he's trying to slim down to the ones that he doesn't feel are working out. It doesn't mean that introducing 12 main characters was a good idea (should've been reduced to six or four from the start), but I can see why he thought adding 12 new characters would be a good idea.
Its not like the trolls are completely bad. I've seen people (me included) that have gotten into Homestuck because they liked the trolls' character designs and/or because they saw somebody have one as their avatar on a foruum.

I just realized that there's a high elo League of Legends player named 413.
Yeah, i got into Homestuck because of the trolls mostly. I almost didnt read it because act 1 was terrible for first time readers of Hussie's works.
Thing is, I have been reading the comic serially since Act 2. It seemed fine then.
I don't think its so much about how its taking things slowly, just that the comic is trying to juggle a million different things at once.
I dunno, maybe that's what you're trying to say. I hate to say it this way, but its 1 in the morning and I'm finding it difficult to read that, but it just because my brain is almost completely shut off.
I need sleep :frown:
edit: aw shit, I'm a page king. Sorry, this is a really shitty page king.
I kind of agree with you. I remember the whole "hey wv is about to explode!" cliffhanger from MONTHS ago, and we haven't heard shit about that since.
Yet again I am apparently the only person who looks forward to exile updates.
Personally I don't give a shit what people think of Homestuck, I think it's a great comic and hope that Hussie finishes it.
Also apologies, I went to sleep, so here.

Sorta same for me. On one of the other forums I frequent, I kept seeing these pictures of these gray-skinned kids with candy corn horns. Also, a friend of mine started wearing black shirts with the signs of the zodiac on them (he owns all 12) and I asked him about it, and he told me, so then I started reading. I thought about giving up when I made it to act 2 and still no Trolls, but I kept going because of some force compelling me to click for the next page.

yup, the thing i saw was the avatar of Vriska kissing Tavros while RPing.
I started reading Homestuck because I was bored at the time. Best decision ever.

Same, I didn't have anything to do, so I thought "I guess I'll check this out". I instantly fell in love.
I read PS because it was linked to in You Are A Tiger, and then after that I read Homestuck because really why not

i was really curious about all the avatars too, and i finally learned the name of the comic so i checked it out
the website said if you're a first time reader that you should check out problem sleuth first, so i did
thought it was pretty great, so i checked out this homestuck one because it was everywhere, i didn't think i'd end up liking it as much as i do
i remember the point where my interest went from "yeah this is pretty cool" to "wow ok i think i really like this now" was [s] make her pay, mostly because of the music i think

I didn't like the music at first, then like you said with make her pay, I immediately got addicted to it. Now that's like all I listen to mostly. I can't wait till the next album is launched.
I read Problem Sleuth, decided to not read Homestuck.
I was back 3 days later reading Homestuck.

I once started reading Homestuck, went "meh, boring" and quit reading.
About 2 months later I came back and go "This is motherfuckin amazing" and kept reading for the next 4 weeks until the latest update.
I still wonder what happened to Me 6 months ago.
Most likely the first act happened.
Like fall into it?
I never saw anyone on Facepunch hate Homestuck.

Then you don't know Jewdozer
Yeah but the thing is reading it serial-style should be the #1 thing he tailors the story for since it's a serial webcomic.
I mean it'd be all fine and dandy for the archive style if he released updates in gigantic chunks or act-by-act, but as it is now it's a serial and should be paced like it.
Andrew has stated serveral times that serial style is #2. Of course it's not perfect.
Even though I believe I would enjoy homestuck much more archivally, I am really glad for the community (or parts of it) which blossomed around it, and that wouldn't be posible to this degree if there was only one complete release.
I think that one of the biggest problems is, that Andrew lately (last few months) isn't able to keep up with the constant updates. I don't blame him. He probably has a lot of shit to do, the thing got much harder to handle, and he can be possibly pretty tired. But if you look a little while back, I think that sometime between last fall and winter, he was able to chug out basically daily updates of serveral pages, or at least one or two pages, but really daily. Back then people were going crazy if no update appeared second day in row. Well, perhaps they are going crazy constantly, so that sorta breaks my point...
Back then, I dare to say the comic was possible to read somewhat semi-periodically. The updates came so fluently that before I was done thinking about what happened to the moment, a new update with new information was there. Nobody bitched about being bored of the story, because there was still fuckton of it at any moment, and even the great amount of characters wasn't that big problem, because they still swapped at high speed.
Ideal would be if Andrew caught second breath, didn't hurry the plot up, but started to spew 3-5 proper pages every day. It's hard, and I wouldn't be really surprised if it's impossible for him now, but it's what I think could really make this story shine again.
People tend to be too impatient when it comes to updates. That's still impressive that someone, like Hussie, is able to continue his huge webcomic (+5000 pages), since 2 years.

it's actually 3700
the first 2000 or so come from problem sleuth
i started reading homestuck because i saw the term "punchcard based alchemy" being used on tvtropes
i clicked on a link and got a couple pages in and was like "wtf this isn't a game, this blows"
a couple weeks later i started from the beginning and was like "oh ok it's actually a comic"
and then three days later i had read from start to around jade's strife with grampa and was out of pages, and started reading problem sleuth
I started reading homestuck because hwecqi told me it was good
and thats pretty much one of two reasons why i still read, the other being because i wanna see how it ends.
I started reading Homestuck after I stumbled upon Beatdown (strider style) on youtube.
The ill beats and seeing what the music has to do with the webcomic were relevant to my interests.
Actually, I remember seeing the GOOD DOG BEST FRIEND thing before actually realizing that it's a webcomic and thought that one was one of the possible endings or something.
I started reading because I didn't know what the hell anyone was talking about or why there were these gray demon things in everyones avatar
I started when a friend pestered me to read, read for a few pages, got bored, then 2 weeks later I read it again and got hooked.
I can't help myself but this reminds me of group meeting of depressed addicts talking about their problem, and how it started. :v:
