I can't imagine he'd stay far away from it for long.
I really hopes that he starts another webcomic, even though he already said it'd be unlikely. The whole doctor scratch thing thats going on now makes me think that he lost interest in making the comic though.

Not really, in hivebent's ending we already knew the eventual outcome from the start, the trolls got fucked up and are in hiding, we just had to be told how it came to that, with this it will summarize events we have no idea about, which means anything remotely major that happens is essentially covered as an aside, which pisses me right the fuck off.

Honestly I don't blame him for losing interest in Homestuck. He's been pumping out a shitload of updates for two years; that's more than enough time and effort to get burned out on making something.
Let's not jump on conclusions. So far he only started with explaining through the doctor, and only one fact whatsoever has been uncovered so far - the the flip was a scratch. Perhaps it might not mean him cutting it short, just change in the narrative. It might also be just for a while before some event actually involving Doc Scratch happens.
Grandpa is only like half dead. He's still got his shadowy form which we haven't seen in ages.

How many long running webcomics do you know that have only 1 long story ? It's really hard for an artist to carry on with the same idea for 3 years without getting bored of it

Somehow I don't think that all of Homestuck counts as "the same idea". It is chock-full of story threads. Admitidly it does all add up to a greater whole, but it does not seem like the easiest story to get bored of. It certainly isn't to read.
Well I just hope the ending is epic.

Also, exactly how long ago did he say that Act 6 and 7 would be insubstantial, because knowing him it might have changed by now.
He's probably not just going to skip over the rest of the comic, I assume he's only doing this Doc Scratch thing right now to quickly resolve a lot of the cliffhangers we've been given.
