You know I've been thinking, for as much as we bash the general MSPA fanbase is it really as bad as we make it out to be and aren't there much worse fanbases? Not that I'm saying some of the shit they do is acceptable or that we can't make fun of it.

Yeah it's pretty garden variety fanbase shit. Hell, the TF2 fanbase is just as bad, and they have less to go on, story wise. People like things and then associate them with their personal interests. Whether or not that's annoying depends on the kind of person you're dealing with. Some people turn it into porn. Some people do romantic fanfiction. Some people give bitches wwhales. And that's terrible.

The only way to truly see the breadth of a fanbase is to immerse yourself in it, and I'm guessing(or hoping) you never really got into the twilight community.
I always found it weird how many people are anti-anime on these forums. They're just TV shows. Fanbases get out of control, it happens. What you mean to hate is the japanophiles who pretty much try and absorb as many tidbits about the culture as possible without actually taking any steps to understand it, nor separating it from their own culture and life.
What you end up with is a human halfway between tribes and welcome to neither, rather than immersed in both like they want to be. They end up alienated in their current environment and see the east as a haven for "their kind", but the east doesn't want them. It's this precise lack of effort or understanding that makes them the vile creatures you come to think of as all who watch anime.
The truth is the vast majority of people who watch anime don't give a shit if it's from japan, it's the story, or the laugh, or the action. The fact of the matter is there is no real western industry for cartoons beyond shit like the simpsons and south park. When was the last time you saw a good animated story from the US? The animatrix?
Honestly I've always seen webcomics as half a step down from anime anyway, 'cause like who in real life talks about webcomics? Nobody, that's who. Anyway I'm off to bed.
