The narration stated that the current Empress would steer her flagship from the fleet and try to assassinate Feferi herself if not for Gl'bgolyb's protection. I think that's my main problem with the flashback aside from it not effecting a damn thing, is the fact that she's just so long winded and everything is just a wall of words about her whining about how people could be good rivals and how she's going to die and such.
