• So, the end of the world in 2012?

I remember I had to do a video editing project by making a documentary about 2012 out of archive footage off of Youtube. I swear, the amount of crazy made me want to kill myself. Yeah, Nibiru doesn't exist so there's no planetary collision. The Mayans didn't predict the apocalypse, and the poleshift won't really do much. So yargh.
Oh shit, what if they run around gunning people down to "free them from the horrors!"
I recently went to a natural history museum where they discussed this. It was quite funny watching this guy disprove every one of the theories whackjobs had come up with. [editline]12:53PM[/editline] :science:
There's a whole group of people at my school who believe this shit. And they're all dimwits.
My DSi goes to 2014 :downs: 2012 can't happen now! :v:
The world doesn't "end" according to any calendar. Heck, the calendar doesn't end. The second age of the world ends. And the third begins. Mythically this is supposed to be a change for the better, not an apocalypse. [editline]03:46PM[/editline] Maybe there's something to it. There's a strange tension in the world. Change is in the air.
OMG THE WORLD WAS SPPSEDDDD 2 BE DESTROYED IN 2008 TOO :downs:

Maybe in 3 billion years when the sun burns out, but not anytime soon.
Not this again. The date on the Calender thing has already passed apparantly and we are all still here.
Sure is 12 around here.
They mean the world will end when 20 12-year-olds take over the world through mingebaggery in Gmod.
Ah 2012, the subject of many hours of discussions over many pints in many pubs. Facts * The earth passes through the magnetic centre of the galaxy (the reason our galaxy is a disk and not just a ball of stars), Nobody knows what effect this will have on our solar system or earth, but the last time this happened shit did hit the fan. * The sun goes through an 'active' cycle every 11 years, in the early 1900's a solar flare took out the power to an entire state. This is the first time in recorded history that there has been no sunspots, could this be the silence before the storm? * Yellowstone has been showing signs of activity as of late, might want to keep an eye on that, then again it might be a false alarm no one knows * So many people buy into the 2012 hype, that as the date nears people stop going to work and stop caring, thus causing a cascade effect as normal none-believers will use it as an excuse not to go to work. On the night shit is supposed to end people wind up smashing things up, rioting and partying. "Irony is what causes the destruction of our civilization." * La-palma erupts (it's an active volcano) and the island continues to slide into the sea causing a mega-tsunami to wipe out the west coast of America. There are an unusually high number of things that could go wrong at the end of 2012, whether or not they do remains to be seen. There is quite a high chance of it. I personally think it'd be good for us to get back to our roots a little. edit: the Mayan calender is a cyclic calender, it measures when our solar system aligns with the centre of the galaxy. it does NOT predict doomsday, but it was known that at the end of each cycle there are times of trouble. how they knew what they knew about the stars goes beyond me.
I hate it when dumb people in my school get hyped up about 2012. Some people just cant do their research and believe what others tell them, it's like: "Hey dude i herd in the internets that world is going to end in 2012 because of planet nibiru and mayan calendar!" "omg srsly? wow we all gonna be doomed i must tell every1 about this!!"
i believe it but its 50/50 for me
i believe it but its 50/50 for me
You believe the world is going to end because of a calender written by a civilization less advanced then us that is now dead? and even though the date on the calender isn't actually the date people say it is?
"OMG THE WORLD WAS SPPSEDDDD 2 BE DESTROYED IN 2008 TOO", please stay serious.
Oh yeah. Believing ancient superstition is serious, but looking at cold hard facts isn't.
Oh yeah. Believing ancient superstition is serious, but looking at cold hard facts isn't.
What 'cold hard facts'?

Other trivia, I'm sure the date's actually the 22nd.

I think it was a miscalculation because of some gregorian-julian calender thingie.
So go in fact that there are 5 separate about 8 minute parts.
No.
Spoiler: [sp]2012 comes, nothing happens, transition onto year 2013[/sp]
Correct
* The earth passes through the magnetic centre of the galaxy (the reason our galaxy is a disk and not just a ball of stars), Nobody knows what effect this will have on our solar system or earth, but the last time this happened shit did hit the fan.
No it didn't. I still see a Galaxy filled with billions of stars that regularly do this, or are aligning right now. You don't see half the galaxy dying out, do you? We're still here, aren't we?
* The sun goes through an 'active' cycle every 11 years, in the early 1900's a solar flare took out the power to an entire state. This is the first time in recorded history that there has been no sunspots, could this be the silence before the storm?
Pray-tell, what 'power' was there around to 'wipe out' in an entire state? Transistors weren't even invented until the 40's, what the hell kind of affect could a solar flare have on glass valves? Did this even happen? Ever?
* Yellowstone has been showing signs of activity as of late, might want to keep an eye on that, then again it might be a false alarm no one knows
No it hasn't, no more unusual than normal. If it does go, it's not going to be a world-ending event we all fear it to be. It'll be very bad, yes, but it's not something to keep people up at night. Might not go off for another 500 years. 1000 years.
* So many people buy into the 2012 hype, that as the date nears people stop going to work and stop caring, thus causing a cascade effect as normal none-believers will use it as an excuse not to go to work. On the night shit is supposed to end people wind up smashing things up, rioting and partying. "Irony is what causes the destruction of our civilization."
No, a few hundread-thousand people will get utterly drunk and wake up next morning realising they've had a days pay docked, and life will continue, with many "Oh, we all knew it wouldn't happen" articles in magazines for the next 6 months.
* La-palma erupts (it's an active volcano) and the island continues to slide into the sea causing a mega-tsunami to wipe out the west coast of America.
"The risk of a landslide in the Canary Islands causing a tidal wave (tsunami) able to devastate America's east coast is vastly overstated. That is the view of marine geologists studying ancient landslides in the area." Odd, huh? Who'd ever have expected something NOT to cause widespread destruction?
There are an unusually high number of things that could go wrong at the end of 2012
No there isn't. Volcano's go off all the time, the sea-level is rising, but it's not going to sink the world in 6 months (If ever), 2012 is going to have no more disasters than any other year.
but it was known that at the end of each cycle there are times of trouble. how they knew what they knew about the stars goes beyond me.
It says nothing about 'times of trouble', merely that the earth has entered another stage. It's religious bullshit.
Hopefully a troll
I hope so. [editline]06:17PM[/editline] Besides, an entire island off the coast of India vanished because of a volcano. India isn't missing.

I'll probably be dead by then for not passing on chain letters about a girl with a axe ect.
What possible reason is there for the world to end specifically in 2012?
Yeah, the mayans or whoever it was could predict the end of the world, but not their own deaths?
Its all hippie bullshit.
2012 is real, give me your shit now, you won't be needing it when the magical space planet comes to take you to fucking sparkleland.
