So lets take a little look at this calendar. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2668640/Maya.PNG Go take a little look at that. On 21st December 2012, the Mayan date will be 13 B'ak'tun, 0 K'atun, 0 Tun, 0 Winal and 0 K'in or, if you prefer: 13.0.0.0.0. That marks the end of one period in the Mayan calendar. Now lets look at the date a little more. On B'ak'tun is 144 000 days, as can be seen in the picture I posted. 13 B'ak'tuns are 1 872 000 days. 1 872 000 days is 5125 years and about 131 and a half day (5125,36 years). The earth is about 4,54 billion years old, or 4 540 000 000 years. 4 540 000 000 divided by 5125,36 is 885791,4370892971. Now this number, is how many times the Mayan calendar would have gone into a new cycle if it started at the beginning of the time. So according to the Mayan calendar, we (humanity) should have died a little less than 900 000 times, the last time August 11th, 3114 BC.
CONSPIRACY STUFF
Uh, no? Having a calendar end does not mean that the world will end.
Uh, no? Having a calendar end does not mean that the world will end.
That's exactly what I meant... [editline]10:20PM[/editline] Seriously, read all of it before you post.
I'm just gonna go ahead and say no, because if I'm wrong (I'm not) then you can't be all, Haha proved you wrong because the world will have ended.
I dont fully belive it , I just think that it is weird that they stopped at 2012
Nobody stopped making a calendar in 2012, it works like our own calendar, resets after some time. (Like when a year goes one up and the other dates reset). Read my post further up. In 2012 there is one of these resets (also in my post). [editline]10:35PM[/editline] No, we won't die.
I dont fully belive it , I just think that it is weird that they stopped at 2012
Yeah everyone thinks its weird because the calendar ends on a date in which said everyone will be alive and not have died of old age. [editline]10:35PM[/editline] Also on my cellphone the calendar goes to 2079 :v:
No
Well, the world almost ended October 25, 1962. And that was because the US and USSR found out each other was placing missiles where they shouldn't have. And everything came well out of that. So why would the world end just because a calender cycle ends? P.S. If you don't know what I'm talking about. Read some books.
what about 2023?
http://www.skeptic.com/reading_room/2012-and-counting/ If you believe in this 2012 bollocks, read this article.
The calender on my wall only goes up to december 31st, does that mean the world will end? It's the same thing really.
I guess I'll say this again. December 12th 2012 is the end of another Mayan long-count period, the Mayan calender is dynamic and can go forward many MANY thousands of years in the future and still be completely reliable. It just happens to have an end point of their long-count periods in the near future, the Mayans are not foretelling the end of the world, rather counting even further. You uninformed ninnies.
My theory: The Myans, for whatever reason, predicted that their world would end in 2012. In 2012, whatever Myans are left will all kill themselves. There will be no more Myans. Their world will have ended. Mystery solved.

And yet, the post this one is still uninformed. :siren: THEIR CALENDAR DOES NOT END IN 2012, JUST AS OUR CALENDAR DOES NOT END ON THE 31ST DECEMBER 2010. :siren:
Xbox ends at 2099, that's the end.
:(
I'm unsure, Though I'm leaning towards.. I just think the Mayans got lazy... Say you were making a calendar... When you gonna stop? You just gonna make that calendar all your life? I reckon whoever was making it just got lazy, Said fuck it We'll continue it closer to the date i'm up to (just happened to be 2012)... Mayans would have expected themselves to be around closer to 2012 to continue their calendar If something does happen, I doubt it will be something as big as what was shown in the movie 2012... but if something does happen the movie will be spot on. Governments will say to select people, who are rich "hey, we have tickets for a trillion bucks" and the general public will be left till the last second" and I wouldn't be suprised if they also have a list with various top scientists and shit who they would also have a priority for.

Read my post two posts up there, how often must this be posted?
Once It doesn't happen in 2012 I say it happens in 2020 because yes.
No fucking doomsday can get between me and my fireworks at December 31. The only day in the year we get to use fireworks. Fireworks are awesome.
06-06-06 I lold at some of the people freaking about that one.
Actually, my birthday is June 6th, in 2 days :v:
The thoery is all the planets in the solar system will be in perfect alignment with the sun... which is what they do EVERY FUCKING YEAR
The calendar itself doesn't end in 2012 jesus fuck. Read my post two posts up there, how often must this be posted?
I feel really sorry for you, because your post was excellent.
The calendar itself doesn't end in 2012 jesus fuck. Read my post two posts up there, how often must this be posted?
I haven't looked into it much but I assume it runs from whenever to 2012 because that's the first period of a cycle correct?
I haven't looked into it much but I assume it runs from whenever to 2012 because that's the first period of a cycle correct?
It's the end of the long count cycle, which lasts for 1872000 years. Basically, their calendar goes from 13.0.0.0.0 to 0.0.0.0.0, and then continues over again from that.
I think the guy making the Mayan calendar got bored and stopped when he got to 2012. :colbert:
The normal calendar stops at 31/12 every year.
stop making these threads the world will not end in 2012 :/ .... it will end in 2013
no, it will not
