A classmate of mine committed suicide today because of bullying - General

I "attended" the group on Facebook and apparently something similar happened here in November, people thought I was joining the group for that. Same exact story. People need to get the fuck over themselves and stop religious-based hatred against gays and lesbians. It's ridiculous.

urbanmonkey, I didn't know you went to the same school as me. I didn't know the guy too well either, but he seemed nice enough the few classes I've had with him.

It's a horrible thing to happen, I hate bullying for any reason, but especially because of someones personal life that doesn't fucking effect the bully in the slightest. If there's one thing I hate, it's bullying. I wasn't bullied myself, but I know people who were. It's disgusting and there's no excuse for it. And when the end result is something as tragic as a kid taking his life, they should be punished for their part in it. Sadly, not much gets done. A suspension? Maybe an expulsion from school if it's really bad. Yeah, that makes up for it all. I can't even stand there and watch it happen. It really fucking gets to me.

Also it makes sense in context, we were debating gay rights and religion, they knew I was an atheist and started questioning me on it, and any argument I made with a scientific basis was shot down with a faith argument that was unfalsifiable. I realsed neither of us would ever change the others mind, so I got bored and just wrung off questions like that because one of them just got uncomfortable at any mention of gays. I didn't just wander up to them and ask it. Let us leave it there before this derails.

I also knew someone who was lesbian and killed herself earlier this year because her parents wouldn't accept her. It truly is terrible and wish there was someway to help before its too late.

I go to school with urbanmonkey, also the boy who is now gone. I had my share of laughs about him being gay. I feel horrible now, I never wanted this to happen. I never meant any of it, and it was back a while ago. I've matured now but it still hits me hard, knowing this boy one day, and he being gone the next. I'm glad FP knows when to be mature.
