My friend works at a radioactive power plant, and he was being dumb as shit.

My liar sense is tingling
So I have this soviet-era Geiger counter. Whenever I open its (wooden)case, there's this really musty smell. When I'm handling the Geiger counter itself there's a stronger musty smell, and I get a headache after 5-10 minutes being close to it. The headache lasts for 20-40 minutes and goes away. Light radiation, or just old?

I tend to get headaches from strong musty smells, so you might just react to them the same way I do. I doubt it's actually radiation.
I hope so. I'm going to get rid of it soon anyways, I don't trust it :v:
My friend works at a radioactive power plant, and he was being dumb as shit.
That's such an obvious lie that it's not even funny.
I hope so. I'm going to get rid of it soon anyways, I don't trust it :v:
Obviously the only solution is to use another Geiger counter to test the Soviet Geiger counter for radiation. :v:
What will you do with it, sell it?
If we were immune to radiation nothing would happen, because we'd be immune.
I don't think radiation has anything to do with the immune system in the first place.
Radiation is just shit that can fry you, and there's different levels/types of radiation.
And our brains lasts the longest against radiation too btw.

The bodies immune system and being immune to the effects of something are 2 totally different things.
I once got slighty irradiated. I just got a bit dizzy.

My friend works at a radioactive power plant, and he was being dumb as shit.
You are such a bad liar, it's quite amusing.
I got irradiated once, my secondary school had some chemical I've forgotten that was an alpha and beta emitter, I didn't feel shit.
You'll only feel radiation if you have an over active imagination or it's a really high dose that you should probably call an ambulance for.
The bodies immune system and being immune to the effects of something are 2 totally different things.
Except you can't quite be immune to the effects of radiation. Even if some radiation is harmless to you, it doesn't mean you are immune to it.

If you have traveled in a plane you have all gotten some sort of radiation exposure.
I did a little tech work at the local nuclear power plant. Was interesting being there, but it isn't like I'd get affected by any radiation.
If you have traveled in a plane you have all gotten some sort of radiation exposure.
If you've breathed air within 1000 miles of granite, stood outside, or been within a mile of an animal/human, you've had radiation exposure.
[editline]6th January 2012[/editline]
So everywhere.
If you've talked on a cell phone, you've had radiation exposure. It's the non-ionizing, slightly heating, harmless kind of radiation, but radiation nonetheless

That is like saying "You stood next to a radiator and felt warm, therefore you have experienced radiation".
I think this thread is specifically looking at alpha,beta,Neutron,x-ray and gamma radiation, not heat, light ect
Not the non-ionizing kinds like light.
To the people who think I'm lieing; I went for a tour of the plant, and he decided it was a good idea to show me around areas that require protection.
To the people who think I'm lieing; I went for a tour of the plant, and he decided it was a good idea to show me around areas that require protection.
It doesn't work that way, as you'd know if you had done even two minutes research before lying. NPPs are nearly fully automated, people just keep an eye on it, technicians going around and the like.

I know that feel man, My cousin also works at a NPP, one day we got drunk, called in some strippers, pulled one of the control rods out and made them use it for pole-dancing.

Now THIS, I can believe.
I read somewhere that while in contact with the radiation, the sensation is a lot like pins and needles.
Yes, that was one of the liquidators, He said that he felt that sensation in his mouth and hands after being less than 3ft from some graphite.

You are lying. I live not even a few miles away from the Hanford site. It is pretty much impossible to get in there without an extensive badge process, let alone get in the site itself. I know because my mom has worked there.
I actually remember a discussion about the helicopter clip on Youtube
The fucktards claimed that the motherfucking radiation warped and melted the fucking helicopter
did they not take fucking basic science classes?!

Honestly living within 50 miles of a nuclear power plant boosts your dosage by around x2
I'm actually suprised you didn't feel anything while walking around inside of it

You get more dosage in a long haul flight than in years of working in a plant. Hell, eating a banana gives more dosage than living within 50 miles of one. Check the XKCD graph on page one to see how minor the effects of living near a NPP are.
I was camping on a small Millitary training island once off the coast of Okinawa once and there wasn't any cell phone reception where we were at but they had some by this airplane hanger across a huge field so a couple of my buddies walked over there. About 1/2 way there they came up this tiny fence made out of some sticks and white rope. They didn't think anything of it at the time and stepped over it and after a few minutes they felt a really warm prickly sensation, and kept going and there was a little tent close by and some lady came out and yelled "you might want to get out of there, you're walking in radiation"

I've lived 8 miles from one for 10 years.
youre going to die
I carry a tiny amount of Tritium with me wherever i go, so im constantly over dosing on my rads
