When I used my M60, I noticed that at longer ranges, I was having a tough time seeing where my BBs were going. I also noticed that while using another player's sniper rifle, I could very easily track the BBs through the scope, even though they were flying much faster than from the M60. So I figured that to get the most out of the range my M60 has, I'd put a scope on it- not for direct aiming, but rather as an observation aid to help me see where I'm hitting and thus walk my fire onto targets. Of course, since the M60VN has no means of mounting a scope, I needed a rail- so I used some mounting hardware to attach a MOE rail to the feed tray cover. The scope itself is an Elcan, because anything else on a support gun would probably look silly.
I have to admit, were it not for hours spent running around in Bad Company 2 with an M60 with 4x scope, I probably wouldn't have even considered this. I still might remove the front sight since it isn't very useful with the scope mounted. Also, the discoloration around the rail mounting is from the threadlocker used to hold the rail solidly in position and prevent wobble.
So what do you guys think? Railed abomination or practical upgrade?

That's exactly why I have my TIP-2 on my Ak, so I can see where my bb's hit. It's also nice to see some kills through the scope, just a satisfying sight.

About 1.5", which is why the scope is so far back. It's reasonably easy to see the crosshairs at 2-2.5", but getting in close (~1") gives a very wide field of view, which I think greatly aids in using it for spotting and tracking rather than just aiming.

Well, obviously it depends on what kind of mask, but I'd say yes. You might not be able to get the full field of view if you can't get in real close, but you'll definitely be able to see through it.

We get decent diversity at ACQB. It wouldn't be wrong to say there are not a good deal of M4s but not very many are tactifucked and we have an equally good deal of SCARs, G36s, MP5s, and just a bunch of other stuff. I'm lucky to have a place like ACQB, i really love it. Speaking of which, I'm also going to get to go soon, as i have a friend(different friend) coming up from florida who ALSO had his christmas present gun shipped here and i'm supposed to take him to ACQB and get him situated with one of his first actual airsoft games. He's used to playing in the streets, well, he's in a for a big surprise. hehehehe. Let's hope for his sake he bought an appropriate gun. Otherwise.......
