If I had an M4/M16 and wanted to paint it, I'd probably go with a desaturated grey-green. A bit uncommon without being an eyesore.
I think what's bugging me is that the receiver is just flat tan. I think it would look better with some other browns and maybe some OD mixed in too. You'd never ever see a real M4 camo'd only a single color
I would only mix it with other colors if I was going to do the whole body...it would look strange to do a camo job on just the lower receiver, wouldn't it?
When the paint wears off enough maybe I'll recoat it in OD or something.

It would look better if you did just the upper in camo. I remember seeing pictures of some JTF2 guys in Afghanistan with C8s like that.
I think he meant mixing the paints together to get one color, flat tan isn't going to be as good as a darker tan. Not many things on Earth are that color.

Actually I meant camoing the gun. So base coat of tan with brown stripes/splotches with some light brown and OD overspray

I would've thought it was common sense to dismantle it and THEN paint it, unless that lower is off a different gun and you painted the entire gun when you did that.
Take it apart, drop those bits in some paint stripper. Problem solved.
turns out that the magnifier was for a low-profile aimpoint, but i used my PDW rear sight as a rail riser and it works beautifully with the EOTech

That M4 is amazing.
Where did you get the magnifier? I'm considering picking up one for my Eotech as well.
I got it from a local swap meet for $40, came with a rather shitty mount though, it's too low for eotechs without rail risers. It's also a QD mount, instead of the offset flip-on/flip-off thing.
Well luckily those just take standard 30mm mounts I believe, so you can replace it with something awesome for like $20.

Yeah, I'm going to get a nice offset flip mount eventually. Then I might get rid of that front sight post, replace it with the SPR sight mount, and get ARMS #40 rear sight or something. As it is, the front sight actually breaks some of the focus.
