Yeah, I know what I mean. I'll most likely just clean those random scratches and spots right off.
I think the weathering looks fine. It's mostly on the edges, plus a bit of random wear on the surface, which is realistic. The only bit that seems weird is on the fire selector, those long vertical streaks seem out of place.
I dislike sand paper weathering. Looks too unrealistic and sharp. Personally I use scotchbrite pads and steel wool with [i]occasionally[/i] using sandpaper in the appropriate spots where sharp and scratchy weathering would actually happen.
I use scotchbrite pads and rough everything up, then go in with really light sandpaper and do edges. Never use a file, I used to and it always ends up looking like shite.
Steel wool makes much 'scratchier' weathering, sandpaper just wears down large surfaces. I use a mix of both, plus a steel file for edges.
Use this for faux wood furniture.
