I had a cap gun that I taped a laser pointer to. Shit was badass.
I had a tiny UMP cap gun i dropped in a lake, then a few months later when i was fishing i managed to fish it out unintentionally.
And i had a shitty toy shotgun i turned into an M1 Garand by taping cardboard to the barrels and painting it brown. I'm sad i got rid of a bunch of my toy guns, i miss them now. I might have better airsoft ones, but they were still cool.
Plastic toy guns that made noise were the best, you didn't give a shit if they broke since they barely cost anything. And is it just me, or do toy guns suck nowadays?

I never had cap guns as a child. In fact, I never had anything gun related until my army men at age 9 or 10.
I had an MP5 that had some sort of eclan looking scope in addition to the flashlight handguard that actually worked. How you "fired" it was pull back the charging handle which was actually a spring for some piece of metal that rattled against a load of groves which made a stupidly large rattling sound.
I can barely comprehend how I used to play soldiers with my friends as a kid I mean how do you know if you've been hit it's like the ultimate honour system.

The real combat that occured when I played soldiers with my friends as a kid was the kind that broke out when some kid was "hit" by a sniper rifle and refused to lie on the ground and call for a girl to be his medic :v:

I went to Target recently and was surprised to see a round ejecting lever action rifle. You would load them in from the side and they would come out the top when you cocked the gun. I nearly shouted "WHERE WAS THIS SHIT WHEN I WAS GROWING UP?!?!"
I remember when I had a cap gun shotgun. Shit was so cash. Also I loved hitting those paper roll caps with a hammer in my old neighborhood. Loud as fuck.

I never had Nerf stuff as a kid because I was living overseas, so my first contact with Nerf was with Humans vs Zombies at college.
One of the standard human weapons, the Stampede, is basically a Nerf AEG. Seriously. It uses a gearbox to pull a spring, feeds from 18-round box magazines, and overall looks like a toy version of an H&K SL8. Rayven? Bullpup magazine-fed semi-auto machine pistol. Magstrike? Air-powered SMG that uses top-loading en-bloc stripper clips and makes airsoft gas SMGs sound like toys by comparison. For toys, they're really well engineered and do some incredible things.
magstrike even has the airsoft short-stroked gas smg problem of failing quickly!!
