We don't have orange tips in Canada.
The M14 had a orange tip but I painted over it. The sling came with my Dboys 74u (the sling itself looks identical to the issue sling as well).

When I remove orange tips, I let it sit in mineral spirits or other paint remover for a week (shake it up err' day a little bit just incase) and then wash all the gunk off, clean it, the paint should come off with a bit of sanding, maybe even just your fingertips. Then you paint it black and walar
A week? That long?

Where's your mag catch? Did you have the same problem mine had?
A week? That long?
Some solvents are not as strong as others, I use a very mild one so it doesn't damage anything. I'm sure the specific solvent you use will have instructions you can find for how long to use it.

I don't know what problem yours had to be honest, but I'm in the process of replacing mine with a steel one so I removed it since I've been to busy to play with it recently, and I'm a bit too lazy to reinstall it.
Weathered 1911s look sexy.
I sold my 1911 with the intention of getting a new pistol later on but I realized I don't really like the ergonomics on any other pistol. I kinda want a USP but god damn do I hate the fucking mag release.
px4 master race
I have the AK47

My USP is holding up well.
and you get used to the mag release

I'm the opposite, while the 1911 molds to your hand like no one's business, I find it hard to press the mag release with my right hand, and I'd rather have the left drawing the second mag immediately instead of having to add the step of depressing the catch as well. I think the USPs release is odd, but I was definitely much more comfortable with it. Either way I've gotten used to both of them so it's really a non issue to me.
My thumb could hit the mag release no problem on the 1911 and I have relatively small hands.
Which USP do you have Dr.?
Dr. should have the Tactical same as me, I like how the release feels on it its not pressing a button its more of sliding a switch.
The button just feels more natural to me.

Perhaps it's the grips on the MEU, but mine is not going to reach the release any time soon. Also, I had a KWA USP and it was nice, but it had a lot of problems that were fixed with the NS2.

That's true, I had the classic version.
single stack handguns are just so fucking..
skinny
on the real 1911 my fingers like wrapped around the grip six times

It's really what you were used to, if you start with a 1911 you're likely to think all of the other handguns are morbidly obese, or if you start with a USP you're probably inclined to think that thinner hand guns are anorexic in comparison. That's why variety is such a nice thing.
Finally, after a week of looking for places that have it in stock, and after my brother's girlfriend moved the pistol funds to another account on accident, i'm finally ordering my pistol tomorrow night.

What should I know about GBB's? i'm a noob about their care and oil and all that jazz.

Okay so just a few things
A. The more you shoot a GBB, the colder it will get. The colder it gets, the weaker it gets. So if you try dumping a whole mag in 3 seconds you'll be left with a sputtering gun shooting 2 FPS and a near-frozen mag. It'll heat back up eventually but don't be too heavy on the trigger unless you have another mag.
B. You'll want to oil your gun after every game or every month or two if you aren't using it often. There is such a thing as too much oil but it's hard to do that without trying. The only oil I will use for GBB pistols is Silicon spray, you can buy it in lots of places and they all achieve the same purpose. You're safer buying it from an airsoft retailer, but you can save a lot of money if you buy the right kind from a hardware store. You can't really use thicker lubricants that you would use on AEGs like lithium grease or what have you, you want some form of silicon, either in a bottle or spray can.
It also helps to spray all the rubber gaskets on the mag if you want to be extra cautious about not having a mag develop leaks. If you think a mag is leaking, fill it with gas, and then put it underwater, in a plugged sink or a bucket, whatever, and see if any gas bubbles are escaping. You can also hear a slight hiss.
C. There are three types of fuel for gas pistols. Green gas/red gas/hfc134a, propane, and co2
Now basically you have the first category, which are all gasses formulated for airsoft. These are basically variations of propane with lubricant already in them. 134a is the weakest, green is a little stronger, and red gas is the strongest, but most don't recommend it. Green gas should do you fine, and is nice because unlike propane, you don't have to lubricate your gun/mags as often.
Propane is the same as green gas, except it smells like shit and you need to lubricate your gun more often. If you're at a game session, I would take the GBB apart and give the inside a quick spray after every round, but if you don't it should be fine as long as you lubricate it after the game is over.
CO2 is usually a nonfactor, since they don't make Co2 mags for nicer guns, but it's still worth a mention. CO2 is the hardest hitting longest lasting gas, but the power is inconsistent, and most fields won't let you use a CO2 pistol because the FPS can vary from 300-500 in the blink of an eye. CO2 mags are also fugly.
Tl;Dr: Use green gas, lubricate your gun with Silicon oil spray (mags too) every now and then. Do not eat GBBs or GBBRs they are not digestible.
Thanks.

I was told it was illegal to have fire arm replicas in Canada, and that having a full painted airsoft gun counted as one since it looked like a real gun. Apparently I was wrongly informed? I live in southern Ontario.

It's in the grey area of the law. Sorta illegal, sorta not. The government doesn't seem to care about it though, as quite a few stores (including public store fronts) exist.
