What's this obsession with higher resolutions when neither console can put out a decent framerate that's above sub-30?
Sounds good to the none techies that don't knows what's going on
What's this obsession with higher resolutions when neither console can put out a decent framerate that's above sub-30?
Consoles only care about purty graphics, not playability.
color me surprised. but I couldn't find a reputable source for that, only this small tidbit of info on ign (which is still more games than I thought were compatable.) Do you have a source for that because that would make me retract what I said and feel a little better about my One S.
You're over looking the fact that the PS4 Pro and the XB1S are not comparable at all. XB1-PS4 XB1S-PS4 Slim PS4 Pro - Scorpio
Also if you want to watch cynical dicks talking over it Giantbomb will be doing their usual shit over it. Can't wait for Jeff's hot takes. [editline]7th September 2016[/editline] Heh, PS4 Pro. Don't sound right.
I love it when they have Danny around for stuff.
You're over looking the fact that the PS4 Pro and the XB1S are not comparable at all. XB1-PS4 XB1S-PS4 Slim PS4 Pro - Scorpio
Fair. I'm just saying Xbox's attempt at shots towards PS4 Pro was mediocre at best especially when their track record hasn't been the greatest, and if you're a fan of 4K HDR content, the obvious buy to me is the Playstation because Scorpio hasn't presented itself with the forwards-compatibility that the Pro introduced. If Xbox can present most if not all of it's good games in 4K HDR next year on the Scorpio, then I'd feel more inclined towards them.
Consoles only care about purty graphics, not playability.
Consoles only care about running the instructions input into their processors You're thinking of developers
"Can do things CLOSE to 4k" dude
But they're prioritizing goddamn graphics over gameplay now.
forgive me if this is a stupid question, i haven't really been following this, but how are these new consoles going to handle 4k when gpus as high end as the 1080 are still struggling?
This is such a weird question You just optimize and lower the graphics The PS3 version of Okami ran at a resolution of 3840x2160 and was supersampled down to 1920x1080. The only difference now is that the PS4p will be able to output the 4K content to a 4K display.
But they're prioritizing goddamn graphics over gameplay now.
Who are "they"??? It's up to the individual developer to choose what to focus on.

Also it seems like the PS4 Pro doesn't even play 4K Blurays.
Well that went past me like fucking stealth. I didnt even know there was a conference today.
Have you not read any of the Phil Spencer interviews regarding the Scorpio? Also it seems like the PS4 Pro doesn't even play 4K Blurays.
I haven't really actually. Didn't know he was actively talking about it. Links? also yeah, i heard about that news too. I went from 0-60 and then back to like 30 when I heard that. thanks sony, really appreciate you supporting your own damn format.
Who are "they"??? It's up to the individual developer to choose what to focus on.
I'm talking about how they're over hyping the fact that you can have HDR and 4k in your games, instead of showing actual games. Notice how all of those games were 3rd person games only showing off how "amazing" those graphics were, or that one VR game.

Why the hell would they have a conference about that stuff and then not show any of it? This isn't E3 or something.
Are there any pics of the back port? Is the HDD drive still there? I really hope more devs prioritize 60FPS on their games, I plan on getting a PS4 on the future and that'd seal the deal for me
Have you not read any of the Phil Spencer interviews regarding the Scorpio? But here's a tweet from Aaron Greenberg about Xbox and Scorpio.

This isn't E3 or something.
I don't mind that, it's also how vague they were about it, with only "look we can have hdr and 4k" for the entire conference, is that it? Am I planning to pay for a console costing $100 for slower fps in hdr and 4k? There's nothing to it. Also someone explain this to me, hasn't there been hdr in video games for utter ages.

I'm pretty sure all games will have to be made to run at least the same on either PS4. And the HDR here is a different kind of HDR, old HDR is about lighting rendering, this is about HDR displays.
And the HDR here is a different kind of HDR, old HDR is about lighting rendering, this is about HDR displays.
And what's the difference.
And what's the difference.
Okay. You won't see a difference on your monitor, just bear with me here: [t]https://dotcolordotcom.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/rec2020-vs-rec709-001.png[/t] this is Rec. 2020 vs. rec. 709, which the latter has been used on pretty much all HDTV displays up to this point. A true wider color range vs. what has been simulated with "HDR" on stuff like Source and UE. That glow effect in those games is basically simulating brighter light coming out of the screen, which creates the flare effect you get when you look at a bright light source IRL. On an HDR screen, you're that much closer to actually looking at a bright light, meaning closer to life visuals. The outside of that triangle represents most of our visible light, so you can see how close we're getting. The bump in quality is roughly a billion colors vs. 2 million. If anyone wants to correct me on this, please advise, but from what I've learned this is what HDR is. In a nutshell, HDR means better, more true to life color (more visible dark levels, better bright levels, and hey that can actually improve readability in high-action games and tell stories better, something you're a big proponent of) than what we've had previously. You need a newer display to see it, which are expensive now, but more and more companies are getting into it, creating more competition. You can buy a 43" HDR 4K TV from Hisense for around $350, as a bare minimum (it looks mediocre though so don't get out your wallets just yet.) Just like 1080p, they will be more affordable to the average consumer and will soon be the standard until something else comes out with a more shippable name than Rec. 4040 or whatever.
Well that went past me like fucking stealth. I didnt even know there was a conference today.
It was more of a tech related thing, so if you were looking for games you didn't miss much. Just showed small new clips of Horizon (more hype new environment), CoD (its CoD), For Honor (just showing stuff that'll still look better on the PC), etc. There was also the first long(ish) Mass Effect stuff which looks nice, but doesn't really give a good grasp of how it'll play. I think TGS is next week. Never seen what's come out of it but I'm assuming we'll see more from the Japanese games (Resident Evil, Persona, etc.)
