So I just finished Daredevil. The suit looks great, even though it doesn't have the D's (and even though [sp]it only shows up at the end of the last episode[/sp]). I like how it actually feels like a natural progression for his character to end up dressing like that, since [sp]he realizes that he DOES need some armor and he gets the reputation as "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen"[/sp]. It's not like he just up and decides to put little horns on his super suit and exchange black for red. I'm kinda torn on D'Onofrio's Kingpin. I feel like he didn't sound nearly as confident or powerful as he should have; like, the first few episodes, they build him up as this terrifying, powerful presence. And then, yeah, he can kick some serious ass, but it never feels like he's in control. It feels like this was Kingpin's origin story as much as it was Daredevil's, and I don't particularly care for that. That said, he had some great moments, like [sp]his Good Samaritan speech at the end and the staring at the wall thing[/sp]. Honestly, [sp]The Owl turned out to be the best villain and it really sucks that he's dead.[/sp] I was also a little bummed that there was no mention of [sp]Shadowland, The Hand, The Punisher, The Daily Bugle[/sp] or any of the other stuff that they easily could have fit in there. That said, the references they did drop were pretty great ([sp]I especially liked the cameo from Roxxon and how Urich's framed headlines had to do with the Chituari Invasion and Hulk smashing Harlem[/sp]). All in all, I thought it was a pretty good series, but I feel like it was all just a preamble; like things are really gonna get moving in Season 2. I was also a little disappointed at the lack of [sp]post-credits scene and Stan Lee, as well as Avengers Tower not appearing in the skyline once[/sp], but regardless, it was a good time. [editline]11th April 2015[/editline] Oh, and to anyone who's finished the episode with Stick: [sp]who was that guy he was talking to at the end? And what was the deal with that little kid in the shipping container? Was he an Inhuman or something?[/sp] Also, Battlin' Jack Murdock is tied with Foggy for best character on the show.
I wasn't planning to watch DD but after all these extremely positive reviews here, I'm starting asap.
You won't regret it, it's about as far from Junior Varsity Avengers as you can get and doesn't have a single trace of Whedonitis.
I read an interview where the Daredevil cast are hoping to get a season 2 in before Defenders. Also regarding credit sequences. When Avengers first launched in the UK it only had the mid credit scene and the end one was added later. Some time after the US release.
No Stilt-Man, 0/10, Ben Affleck was better.
What i'm loving in the new tv show is 1. the fights and 2. for some reason the relationship between matt and his father in the flashbacks, they just seem so nice and like his dad actually loves him, i dunno why it just does
I just watched 2 episodes (I don't want to binge) and it already is a really nice show.
After visiting /co/ and looking at some screencaps... [sp]There totally is Stilt-Man AND Stan Lee.[/sp] This show knows how to do some good-ass Easter Eggs.
Is it just me, or does Daredevil's initial costume look a lot like Dread Pirate Roberts? [t]http://i.imgur.com/VGq557V.jpg[/t]
I wish they got Spider-Man before filming this so the newspaper Ben works for could be The Daily Bugle and we could have JJJ shouting at him in the office.
I wish they got Spider-Man before filming this so the newspaper Ben works for could be The Daily Bugle and we could have JJJ shouting at him in the office.
"Urich!" doesn't quite have the same pizzazz as "Parker!" though.
I would like to see Daredevil take on some 'powered' villains in the future seasons. I liked the reference to [sp]Absorbing Man. Who was the boxer Matt's dad was supposed to lose to but instead beat[/sp] There's some great potential for Daredevil to pop up in an episode of Agents of Shield. [sp]Shield hunting an escapee Absorbing Man in Hell's Kitchen and Murdoch gets involved[/sp].
finale spoiler [sp]Did Murdock come up with the suit design?[/sp]
Does anyone else wish Kingpin was more physically imposing? Don't get me wrong Vincent D'Onofrio is fantastic But still
Does anyone else wish Kingpin was more physically imposing? Don't get me wrong Vincent D'Onofrio is fantastic But still
My main problem with him is that he's not threatening at all unless he's going "AGGGGGHHHH" and beating someone. [sp]He doesn't really become Kingpin until the very end.[/sp] [editline]11th April 2015[/editline] I reviewed the series for my movie review blog: http://whiteguywithnetflix.blogspot.com/2015/04/review-marvels-daredevil.html No spoilers, of course.
Oh goodness, change that font
Oh goodness, change that font
A facelift is in the works for sure.
Wow, that was amazing. Can't wait to see what's the next shows in Marvel's Netflix adventure bring to the table.
Wow, that was amazing. Can't wait to see what's the next shows in Marvel's Netflix adventure bring to the table.
A.K.A. Jessica Jones will be hitting Netflix somewhere this year, followed by Luke Cage and Iron Fist next year. Honestly, I'm not sure which of these excites me more.
[sp]Holy fuck, i knew it was going to be violent, but the end of episode 4, jesus.[/sp]
if you haven't seen it yet i hope this convinces you to start watching daredevil
I love the part where the guy walks past and almost casually gets the TV flung at his face. There's something humorous about it.
just a question is daredevil worth watching marathon-style? i saw the old 2003 daredevil movie and i don't remember hating or liking it. if so i have 2 marvel series to marathon tonight (Daredevil and Agent Carter)
Does anyone else wish Kingpin was more physically imposing? Don't get me wrong Vincent D'Onofrio is fantastic But still
I don't think he's supposed to be that imposing. Not yet. He's quite sedate and childlike unless somebody pisses him off and then he changes. The nervous hand twitch stops, his voice goes all commanding and deep and he's brutal. I would say it's one of the best comic book villain adaptations on screen. It's a blend of a good look, a good performance and some killer writing. Certainly one of the best MCU yet.

It was good.
Also I just realised another Marvel character is mentioned at one point: (episode 10)[sp]Foggy accuses Matt of learning Spanish in University to impress a Spanish girl. Matt corrects him and says she's Greek and that they didn't work out. Didn't Matt and Elektra meet in University while he was studying law? That's a future storyline waiting to happen[/sp]

Each episode happens over the course of a day or two, so I would either marathon it or watch it in sizeable chunks; there are a lot of names tossed around in the many discussion scenes, so it might be a little daunting to watch with gaps inbetween.
if you haven't seen it yet i hope this convinces you to start watching daredevil
Hero is just as exhausted and beaten as everyone he's fighting? Yeah, I'm sold. Watching first episode now.
Just finished episode 1. Damn, this is way better than I expected.
Apparently there's [sp]a Punisher skull[/sp] on the wall of [sp]the access tunnel that DD and Russian guy try to escape through.[/sp] It's super faint though, so people are wondering if it's intentional or if it's just a coincidental stain on the wall.
