there have been subtle hints about punisher in the mcu for a while now. apparently he's the guy in the penske truck in winter soldier, and if i'm not mistaken, that animated film avengers confidential: black widow & punisher is considered part of the mcu. not to mention marvel has the rights for the character, and he was one of the rumored netflix shows.

Not part of the MCU, but he's still big enough to be put in the title and featured in the movie.

They were both raised in a St Agnes orphanage. Whether or not it's the same St Agnes is up for debate, though.

Are they insane? No benefit to Marvel!? It allows them access to the biggest Marvel character in adapting one of the biggest comic stories with their biggest MCU actors. They literally don't know what they're dealing with.
At one point when they list the potential characters they could have in a Spidey film they don't even think of Iron Man, they seem to be completely deaf and blind to his popularity and relation to Spider-man. I'm glad the deal has worked out so Marvel has creative control over Spidey because Sony come across as clueless cunts. They essentially get all sarcastic about Marvel being upset they pinched Drew Goddard from Daredevil and accuse them of going through "stages of grief". It's just all about trying to kick everybody in the shins and impress high-ups. If you read their attempts at getting the Doctor Who Film rights it's the same. The head of BBC television tells them "yeah our own showrunners have a plan for a film but they don't want to do it right now" and Sony people begin emailing eachother internally saying "WE SHOULD SPEAK TO THESE SHOWRUNNERS THIS COULD BE REALLY POPULAR AND MAKE MONEY". They seem surprised the BBC wants to do best by it's show and content creators.
So much love lost for Sony since these leaks started. Sony Films is ran by suits. Imagine if George sold to them and not Disney.

I think Punisher will absoloutely pop up in the Netflix series' though. Even if he's not in his own series there's nothing stopping him being a main plot thread in Defenders or Daredevil. Afterall it was his iconic run in Daredevil comics that launched him to become the fan favourite he is now.
Punisher needs to be a television show. I can't see it work as a movie as part of the MCU. As a movie alone, maybe. But not as the MCU.

It'd be great to see Daredevil and Punisher at odds over their differing ideas of justice. That could also bring in Bushwacker or Bullseye.

If Spider-man showed up in a post credit scene, we probably wouldn't see the costume since they said there's is so different.
It would probably be something like some kid walking through his high school hearing about the avengers, and then someone says "HEY PARKER!" and he turns around and we see the actor's face.
