Marvel Studios is taking a page from Silicon Valley, and issued a surprise, and mysterious, invitation for Tuesday, October 28. The invitations, extended to Newsarama and other sites that cover comic book movies, says nothing other than the date, the morning time, and the location of the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. The invitation certainly brings to mind what Apple has done when announcing a major product in the past. It does specify the event is a Marvel Studios one, not Marvel Comics.
I feel like this is just more Avengers stuff, but I would shit my pants if it was something totally crazy.
Like fucking Spider-Man.
A bunch of media people are brought to a theater, the lights go down, they watch some Marvel clips, then a guy comes out and says "we assembled you here for a special announcement. We have recently gotten the film rights to Spider-Man and will beginning to integrate him into the MCU. That is all" and then just leaves.
That'd set the gat damn world on fire.
MCU would be an unstoppable force with the Spiderman universe. The most iconic and popular marvel character in their grasp. All the MCU characters so far (except Hulk) have been virtually unknown to the greater public. The MCU films made them the icons they are now. Only us nerds who watched cartoons and read comic books knew Iron Man before the movies. Now you can say Iron Man to anybody and they'd know who he was. Spiderman on the other hand was instantly recognisable and known before his first movie. If he was in a MCU movie with the other characters it would sell like wildfire. What would sell more than Spiderman, Hulk and Iron Man? (I guess Wolverine, Spiderman, Hulk and Iron Man).
Sony would not dare give that back to Marvel for any price. They'd be doomed to release every film in Marvels shadow.
I think a deal to share distribution and production is more likely.

I agree. Sony needs to start sharing spiderman with Marvel for crossovers. Spidey showing up in a civil war movie, or even against Thanos would make the internet go crazy. And if they want to show him in a trailer, do not show a lot of spiderman, just tease him very very little.
Andrew Garfield is a great spiderman imo, but Sony doesn't know what to do with their movies. They're entertaining to watch, but not as good as they can be.
They could even propose a deal where marvel writers/directors could help Spiderman movies. Something needs to get done where spiderman shows up in the avengers, though.
I must be that minority who thinks it's okay that Spider-man I'd not connect to the MCU and never will. Spider-Man, for whatever reason would feel out of place to me and at this point I don't see a logical way to include him that doesn't feel ham-fisted and stupid (even if they did some alternate dimensions silliness).
I get it, he's a part of the Avengers. I get it, he's a major player in Civil War. I believe Spider-Man is big enough to exist on his own (just as the X-Men have) let them have their own universes (The Marvel Universe is fucking massive, The Avengers films doesn't need Spider-Man which allows for better opportunities for lesser known characters).
Spider-Man can cross over with the Fantastic Four reboot or even the Daredevil series (or if he ever gets a good movie).
The only argument for Spider-Man in the MCU I'd have is that the powers behind the MCU seem to have a golden touch with everything these days; and for Spider-Man to get the same treatment as opposed to his 'alright' treatment he's currently getting.
On an unrelated note, given Deadpool's knack for breaking the fourth wall, anyone else think it'd be interesting and in a strangle way make sense if he crossed over with anyone in the movies? If the studios could work out some agreement. Or at least make light of the studio bidding war in some way.

The new Daredevil is in the MCU.
Spider-Man, and especially his enemies like Green Goblin or Doc Ock, are too big part of Marvel Universe to stay in Sony's hand, same with Fantastic Four and Fox.
The only part of universe that could stand on its own is X-Men and even this is highly debatable because it leads to this whole shebang with Quicksilver. In my opinion Marvel should regain all of their movie rights back, and if they keep earning as much money as they do now I think that Disney will simply buy them back. If you want someone to fight Marvel supremacy, it should be Warner with their DC Universe instead of studios using Marvel's licenses.
Even if not for Spider-man- the enemies of Spiderman are the best in Marvel's universe except a few.

It would be great to see those guys popping up in the MCU films.
Also Spider-man could face off against Kingpin!

Nothing like Spiderman first meeting the Kingpin and getting the crap kicked out of him by a sumo wrestler.
You know who has some of the absolute most forgettable, worst villains?
Iron Man.

Aside from Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom, they tend to be "dude in suit".

This ultron stuff is getting pretty creepy...
I'm genuinely excited to see Serkis [SP]possibly play Ulysses Klaw[/SP].

And the one with the best villains is in the hands of Sony...
All of 'em, really. I'm sad for a Marvel Universe that never has to deal with Norman Osborn, Dr. Doom, or Magneto.
LONDON — Thor and Captain America are ensnared in an epic battle on the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron. A legion of robot “Ultrons” — like the malevolent swarm from those haunting posters for the film, opening May 1, 2015 — are laying waste to a city within the (fictional) nation of Sokovia, under the control of the artificially intelligent titular villain. Civilians flee in terror, racing through streets littered with the husks of bombed-out cars and hunks of debris and shards of glass (or, rather, painted styrofoam and crumbly clear plastic) scattered along the ground. To evade the Ultrons’ attack, Cap (Chris Evans) dives under an exploding pile of rubble, skidding along the ground on top of his trademark red, white, and blue shield. He then flips up onto his feet and kicks his shield into the air — just in time for Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to thwack it with his trademark hammer, slicing it through a pack of robots nearby like the most lethal and badass Frisbee ever.
Cumberbatch as Strange? I am pleased.

I mean, as much as I like him as an actor and in all those months we've heard so many different propositions that seemed much better and more interesting than Cumberbatch, that now his choice seem to me bland and boring.
Ugh, I'm with Joz on this one. He's a good actor, but he's cast in everything these days. Such a boring choice. I'd take Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto, Pedro Pascal and Keanu Reeves over him any day.
I personally just plain don't like Cumberbatch.
Cumberbatch has some good roles, but I don't think he'd make a good Strange.
He doesn't look like he would be an arrogant doctor. Ryan Gosling or the guy I quoted a picture of a few pages back look so much better for the role.
Also it's awesome they are doing more group fighting like Iron Man + cap in the first avengers.

Ryan Gosling, I don't see it.
I totally fucking see Keanu Reeves tho. Keanu would kill that role.
I can see him doing a good job, but this choice is predictable as fuck.
Not to mention, I look forward for all the yaoi Tumblr will produce that features Dr. Strange fucking Sherlock while Jack Frost and the Onceler watch, or whatever it is Tumblr does.
So, do you all think we'll officially see a Masters of Evil soon? We've got Ultron, [SP]and potentially Andy Serkis as Dr. Klaw (get hype)[/SP], Loki, a real Mandarin, and Thanos (although I'm uncertain if he was in any roster). All we need is Dr. Doom, which honestly shouldn't be a problem given the Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver loophole. If they do not need to be Magneto's children, or mutant at all, then Doom wouldn't necessarily need to meet Reed Richards.
I really wish Keanu Reeves got the Strange role.

There's a difference between Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch, who are relatively obscure characters and from their first appearance were as much Avengers as they were mutants, and Doom, a well-known character who was a Fantastic Four enemy and has been known as a Fantastic Four enemy and classified as a Fantastic Four enemy for 70+ years.
I hope they someone manage to get the rights to Doctor Doom. Even without the fantastic four, he is the epitome of villainy.
Seriously, they could do a whole cycle of movies with Doctor Doom being the primarch big bad. Similar to Thanos, but with a more personal touch. Whereas Thanos is in fucking space being some kind of god thing who sends aliens or some shit down to earth. Doctor Doom is just a really smart, powerful motherfucker who gets shit done. And you gotta respect that.
They could always just come up with an original villain to play those kinds of roles, Agents of Shield has shown that not everything needs to be an adaptation

If they bring Red Skull back he could easily fill that role all the same. He could even have a tie to Thanos after his exposure to the Tesseract and acts as harbinger for Thanos' arrival on Earth.
