Looks ugly. But I found out it's fan art so that's probably why
[URL="http://www.albertafilmratings.ca/recentclasstrailers.aspx"]Ant-Man's first trailer's been rated,[/URL] so it should be coming soon.
I hope it will be good. Is anyone familiar with the works of the new director?
Reed has a very fluid and energetic directing style which, coupled with a great script and Edgar's base work, should result in a fantastic movie.
Remember what Evangeline Lily said,
"I finally got the script literally the day before I was supposed to go in for fittings. I said, ‘I’m not going to do my fitting until I see the script.’ I saw with my own eyes that Marvel had just pulled the script into their world. I mean, they’ve established a universe, and everyone has come to expect a certain aesthetic [and] a certain feel for Marvel films. And what Edgar was creating was much more in the Edgar Wright camp of films. They were very different."
"And I feel like, if [Marvel] had created Edgar’s incredible vision — which would have been, like, classic comic book — it would have been such a riot to film [and] it would have been so much fun to watch. [But] it wouldn’t have fit in the Marvel Universe. It would have stuck out like a sore thumb, no matter how good it was. It just would have taken you away from this cohesive universe they’re trying to create. And therefore it ruins the suspended disbelief that they’ve built."
So all-in-all, perhaps it's for the best
but guardians
Was different but it still fit in the mold.
Also, Guardians had more places to explore because the only connection between it and everything else was Thanos. Ant-Man exists in the Avenger's backyard.
Marvel films have a very consistent house style. Even if they span universes and genres they still ultimately feel like they can co-exist.
I imagine Wright wanted to do his own thing and Marvel don't want to be doing that.
Listen, the most likely thing that happened was that Wright's movie was made for a MCU before Iron Man.
And face it, one of the big reasons these movies have been a success is because of the connection between them. Guardians was a great movie on its own but what put butts on the seats is the fact it's on the MCU. The biggest argument people use to convince others to watch Agents of SHIELD is 'it's important to the MCU'.
What most likely happened was that when Wright was finally ready and willing to do Ant-Man, he was faced with a post-Avengers verse. He wanted to do "an Edgar Wright movie with Marvel characters", and Marvel, now having to care about an entire universe, wanted "a Marvel movie directed by Edgar Wright". The reason the Russos and Gunn have been getting so much praise is because they managed that balance, to make a movie that is theirs whilst also being Marvel's. But Edgar Wright, well, if there's one thing I can say about him having only watched his movies and nothing more is that I feel that he is a very proprietary guy. Who cares if what Marvel wanted was a little or a big connection to the MCU, this was meddling and he felt like it would intrude upon his original vision, so they both parted ways.
Again, from the business side, it makes one hundred percent sense. Wright is an, and I apologize for using this word, auteur. His films have a style that is his, just like Gunn's does. When he came aboard in 2007, Marvel could not give two shits about what he wanted to do because they didn't have anything to lose. Now they do. They pushed characters who were C, maybe D listers in the Marvelverse to worldwide stardom. Now they have stuff to lose. They have even more stuff to lose because this is not some random group of aliens in a far off galaxy, this is the original founding member of the Avengers in the comics. They need to make people look at Ant-Man and stop guffawing and chuckling and going 'right like anyone would ever need a guy like that in the Avengers' and they can't take any risks.
The biggest problem with this split isn't even with Marvel or Wright, it's with the fans, because people want to push this portrayal of the split that absolves Wright of every possible guilt and frames Marvel as the big bad corporation because up until now Wright has been the steward of geeky, niche comedies and those have the most faithful fanboys. In reality, both parties simply saw different outcomes, didn't want it anymore and parted ways.
I have only seen one Peyton Reed movie, and it was a Jim Carrey comedy which I liked, but no one else did, so I can't speak to the quality of his movies. However, shouldn't we have learned about not judging people? All the Russos had done up until now was smart TV comedies and they made a conspiracy thriller that rocked everyone's pants off. All Gunn had done up until now were cult movies and he made a blockbuster out of a tree and a racoon. Same goes for Favreau, Whedon, the list goes on. Maybe it's time we stop thinking about how good Wright's movie could have been and start hoping that Peyton's movie will surprise us.

It got certified last week, so probably soon. Maybe during Agent Carter/AoS return? I don't think they'll wait until AoU.
