Why is Odin so nerfed in the movies?
Couldn't he like, destroy anyone in the comics easily?

Odin I think could destroy entire galaxy very easily, movies he is pretty much a pushover.
That makes me wonder what will movie Thanos be? They have to make him seem like the most powerful being in the universe when he gets his gauntlet, will he be atleast a planet buster? or Galaxy buster?
I really hope he's just a GOD like he was in the comics.
Snaps his fingers, literally ANYTHING he wants happens.
Thor 3 must end with Odin ex Machina
Also I really need to get around to finishing the Walt Simonson Thor run I only ever read the first volume but fuck why are comics so goddamn expensive

He's even better in the comics.
Have you guys ever had that moment where all your excitement for something just completely waned in the span of the seconds it takes you to read a quote?
"And we treat what would normally be considered a superpower as a trauma. They don’t just go up a roof, jump off, and start swinging through the city. It’s the opposite. What would happen if your body transformed, and you didn’t have control over it?"
That's Simon Kinberg talking about the newest Fantastic Four. I don't think we have a thread for the FOX movies, but man... that quote just drained what little interest the trailer got from me. Like, come on. Are you seriously telling me they're going to transform the Fantastic Four into 'boo hoo I have superpowers' like the X-Men?
I seriously do not remember a point in the FF's history where any of them, except maybe Ben, cry over the fact they have superpowers. And Ben's problem isn't even that he has superpowers, it's the fact he looks like an ugly rock monster. The Fantastic Four have always been happy to be heroes, happy to help the city of New York, and the whole 'superpowers as trauma/minority/whatever' thing does not belong with them.
Complain all you want about the first movies, but at least they got that right.

You have to look at this in the long term.
In the long term, this is very good. Because it's going to bomb the movie to hell and it's going to suck so bad that Fox will want to wash its hands of it and give it back to Marvel.
The more bad news about FF like this, the better in my opinion.
Im sincerely hoping it bombs as hard as it possibly can.
The sooner Marvel gets their characters back, the better.
Plus, Doom would be an amazing Phase 4 villain.
[editline]30th January 2015[/editline]
Ghost Riders sequel bombed hard enough to get sold back to Marvel, so theres a possibility.

That's exactly how the book started out; the '86 reprint GN had a foreword on how the FF pretty much started "learning to use your shit correctly, and maybe having superpowers doesn't make you perfect" trend.
happy to be heroes
ahahaha
hahahha
An underpinning theme of every iteration of the FF has been Reed's search for how to nullify their powers, fullstop. Why do you think Tony put him in charge of the Rock in civil war?
This movie may be going to suck, but you've also clearly never read any FF iteration for longer than a couple of issues. The only person who came to terms with their shit was Ben, everyone else has tried umpteen different methods of getting rid of them, including almost nullifying every non-mutant or non-Eternal power in the 616.
Seems like it's going to be chronicle, but set in FF universe.
I don't see what's so wrong about them learning how to control their new powers, and trying to figure out why them.
The thematic concept isn't wrong, this movie just looks super-cringey on principle, and their treatment of Doom is one of the worst retcons I've ever heard of.
The problem is, Doom's origin is too complicated to set him up in one movie that also has to set up the rest of the Four.
If anything, they should establish the Four in the first movie, put them up against someone like Mole Man or something. Then have a stinger where we see Doom looking at them on a bunch of monitors while sitting on a throne and going "RICHAAAARDSSSS".
Then have Doom be the villain of the second movie, establish his origin through a flashback in the beginning. Show a gypsy kid being taken away from his parents, escaping to America, going to school with Reed, blowing up his face, having the scalding hot armor put on, etc.
Then mention later that he took the throne of Latveria and has been ruling in the shadows. Like, nobody gave enough of a shit about this shadowy little nation to know that their leader is calling himself Doctor Doom. Then he emerges and tries to destroy Richards.
Bam, two movies done.
Doom now doesn't want to dominate Latveria, he wants to be the ruler of Tumblr.

Latveria isn't a real country, it's a domain of CYBERSPACE. Or the N-zone if this really is just the Ultimate Fantastic Four.

For Thor, you can't go wrong with Walt Simonson's run, and Thor: God of Thunder by Jason Aaron is amazing and should be easy to find. Marvel also do Platinum collections for characters, so you should check the Definitive Thor Collection.
