I've got pectus too, actually, but its effects on my heart were a bit different. My heart swelled during basic training, on account of all the cardio I was doing, and when it did it pressed against the ribs. The pressure caused my heart to shift and damaged the muscles, so it can't pump correctly anymore. It's also damaged my lungs, cutting lung functions to about 60% of expected.
Luckily, the damage is all correctable with surgery. Unluckily, I lost my career as a result of it.
edit
You've got "pigeon chest" pectus (caricatonum, or some shit like that? Can't remember its proper term), I've got "funnel chest" pectus (excavatum). My ribcage is all warped inwards.
Pectus buddies!

I feel so out of place having a normal ribcage
6'0 I like to say I'm 145lbs, but I'm probably ≤140lbs.
heh, so we both have heart AND CHEST PROBLEMS haha
at least yours can be fixed, though
mine is not a heart condition, but rather a connective tissue disorder due to the in-abundance of a protein that is responsible for the strength of the tissue making up heart valves. without it they wear away many times quicker than they should, which will result in my eventual death, likely around the time of my 30-35th birthday
Odd. No matter how much shit I eat, I end up being skinny as hell.

consider yourself lucky! you dont understand how much it sucks being a swimmer, spending a great amount of time with your shirt off, and always worrying about the image of your bulging, gross, misshapen chest. of course, it's harder to notice one's chest when they're facedown placing first in breaststroke races ;D
[editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
hey big dumb american, have you ever eaten popcorn or goldfish out of your chest? :v: i had a friend with the same chest condition as you, he is also a swimmer. once i was looking for him as i was afraid we were going to miss our relay (he was on the medley relay team) and i found him on the bleachers eating popcorn out of his chest. it was one of the funniest things i had ever seen
If you and BDA hugged you guys could totally chest-fuck. Just saying.
luckily BDA's chest would be the vagina and mine would be the cock
haha my chest wins again!!
I think I'm gonna bike 1 hour a day and work out half an hour a day.
Sounds good?
depending on what you eat it sounds good, just don't half ass it. remember, if you want to lose weight you have to put forth the effort. the harder you work, the more instant the results

I tried eating cereal with some success. That was a bit too messy to be practical, but it makes a kick-ass cupholder. If I'm leaning back a little and I've got nowhere else to put it, I'll usually just rest my drink in my chest-hole.
apply for america's got talent; eat cereal with milk from your chest hole
fame and success for the rest of your life
And yeah, I know what you mean about not wanting to take your shirt off. Man, I dread events where shirtlessness is necessary. If I'm not making up an excuse to stay out of the water at the pool, then I just go in with my shirt on. Really self-conscious about the way it looks.
But I'm getting my surgery soon, and I'm pretty darn stoked for that. I'm not sure how crazy I am about them breaking all of my ribs and cutting down my sternum, or exactly how pleased I am about the five month recovery process, but at the end of it I should be healthy and normal looking. That's gonna rock, man.
you've got the more unlucky version of the condition; in my case i can wear a thin brace which will press it back into place. its interesting, chests with my condition, because you can push them in and they're all bendy.
i dont think im going to wear the brace though, i think learning to live with it will make me stronger. maybe the doctors can give you that extra strength too for the recovery process, i hear it hurts like fuck :v:
lift weights and eat right.
This.
I don't get why everyone thinks cardio is the holy grail to weight loss, it helps but it's not.
Swallow a tapeworm.
But do you ever binge eat or drink soda or something? Cause that'll affect you a lot.
Also it depends on what that 80 minutes of exercise entails. If you want to lose weight you should do a lot more cardio and stuff that'll make you sweat a lot. Then work on muscles so that the weight won't just be in fat.
Slow metabolism?
I'm the exact opposite.
I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and I only ever lose weight.
Then you're going to die eventually
That sucks

I used to have this
and I know a guy who does
I don't really get any fatter than I am right now...
and the fat I do get stays on my stomach, doesn't change my face/neck etc.

Well said sir
Your dad is a potato, really the last time I saw him he looked like a maltese potato. Genetics son.
Yes, kellogs dad has brown skin and is shaped like a potato. Informative eh?
I bet OP is one of those people that walks on treadmills and does 10 situps on exercise balls and calls that "working out"
haha working out my ass, unless you're running at a fast enough pase to hurt when you're done, unless you're swimming hard enough to be sore the next day, and unless you're doing pushups until you can't do pushups anymore, your weight is probably gonna stay the same
I would say weight loss is 90% exercise, 10% eating right
[editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
even though people tend to believe that "diets" are the way to go, they're really not, and in most cases they don't do shit and are unhealthy
Not everyone is willing to run around sore at work the next day.
I find that an hour jog in the morning, or a night walk whenever I'm too tired to wake up is more than sufficient.
Don't drink soda's, avoid fast foods etc...
Slowly altering your lifestyle > Tearing your muscles.
But if you have a lot of time to spare. You might want to intensify it a little.
Go anorexic.
