Im curious, I'm searching the internet not having much luck, but what are the effects of someone staying up that long. Im reading posts and people saying you could be hospitalized, even death was thrown around how would that work. Out of curiosity.
The consequences are perfectly known to me. From someone who knows me first hand:
You're retarded Elliot and so is that person you are both liable to contaminate the human genome please carry on with your course of action and rid yourself from the species. :tiphat: [editline]2nd January 2011[/editline]
Im curious, I'm searching the internet not having much luck, but what are the effects of someone staying up that long. Out of curiosity.
day 1: Massive tiredness day 2: irritability day 3: previous symptoms now clustered with paranoia and hallucinations at the edge of your vision that disappear when brought to attention. day 4: Audio hallucinations join the party now day 5: Higher thought process start to take a beating, complex thought is difficult day 6: True visual and audio hallucinations combining, effectively having nightmares while awake, cannot be stopped, extreme paranoia sets in as well now. Furthest I reached was 3 and a half days, the rest is from people I know who are massive insomniacs, but between day 11 - 14 expect the worst outcome, multiple organ failure, that's what kills a lot of hospital patients in critical condition, the body can't keep itself alive cause it hasn't had an opportunity to perform running repairs so it just literally breaks down and dies.
Sleep deprivation causing death has only been proven in rats thus far. My personal guess is that the side effects of the deprivation will stress the animal to a point where the body simply gives up. In humans sleep deprivation seems to heighten the risk of an early death, but not death during the deprivation period. Humans have collapsed before they reach a point of death, so I guess unless you get a mad scientist to conduct sleep deprivation studies on humans, you won't have a clear answer.

Failed yet?
Failed yet?
read op
Welp. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.
I just wan't you to know, that you are a fucking idiot. Trying to break a record in staying awake is just stupid. Extra retard points for attempting to do it withing the age of 16 when you are still growing and need more sleep than adults.
Hello, you wouldn't have beaten this guy:
Thai Ngoc is a man that medical modern science says should have died in 1976 when he was robbed of the ability to sleep. The Vietnamese man, born in 1942 in a small village called Trung Ha in the Quang Nam Province said one of his greatest aspirations in life was to one day have a dream. And yet dreams have never come. The man was the subject of two separate investigations looking into his strange condition. Some would say the potential for productivity one man can have utilizing all 24 hours in the day without sleep would be an immense boon while others say it is a cruel curse placed on him by nature. The investigations operating out of the United Kingdom and Thailand both independently concluded that Thai Ngoc was the genuine article as they followed him for several days independently with cameras around the clock. As the sun set, Ngoc continued to work tirelessly, tending to the small farm he lived on. Investigators even took the study a step further, hiding nine objects of Ngoc's around the house and asking the elderly man to describe them and indicate which objects were missing. He did so without missing a beat, demonstrating an incredible amount of alertness. The brain needs what is known as "REM sleep" also known as "dream sleep." REM sleep is said to be one of the most powerful changes the human mind will undertake throughout a natural lifetime. And it is supposed to happen once every REM cycle in a 24 hour day. Without REM sleep subjects in sleep studies show a decreased level of performance in both cognitive functioning and verbal aptitude. And with time, a lack of REM sleep is often forcibly fought by the body with increased lethargy ultimately leading to a deep sleep lasting several hours. Studies where REM sleep was prevented often resulted in symptoms reminiscent of sufferers of schizophrenia. And yet Ngoc, while observed, seemed perfectly reasonable and lucid. He would work around the clock with no ill effects. Since he never slept, he had no bed in his house. Visitors had to sleep on mats which Ngoc poured boiling water around in order to fight off the constant tide of ants in the area. Though his lack of sleep was widely documented by news crews, he declined an invitation to travel abroad for 18 months in order to be studied, saying he was afraid of tests and had not left his home town for over 60 years. In addition, he says that no doctor has been able to help him thus far. Medicines intended to allow him to sleep have no effect on him. He has had several jobs playing drums at night in order to remind the other villagers that someone is still out there watching over the village in the dead of night. And yet no one is able to explain how Ngoc is alive or how he can sustain such long hours without sleep. He has been keeping his pace for a long time and wishes for nothing more than a half hour nap.
Yet another superhuman.
The ants weren't real.
Another quality qombat thread with no results.
There are no words for how idiotic an idea this was.
i like it how everyone on facepunch acts like they know everything about every subject 'we know all there is to know about sleep deprivation' lol

Livestream it.
I hope you got a gravestone for christmas.
I don't foresee this ending well...
i remember a while ago a group of guys did this, and they streamed it, after 3 days they were like "aaargh this is the worst idea ever" and they all fell asleep. "shoe on head, shoe on head"
My god, I cannot fathom how nice OP will sleep now. Imagine the sleep, oh shit. I want to sleep now as well.
I went for like 2 days with around 8 hours of sleep and I could hardly stay awake while eating dinner. I suck at staying awake, and I like sleeping way too much to ever do anything like this.
I did around 96 hours once... But I kept crashing after 3 days and sleeping for like an hour at a time, almost like feinting. Oh and hallucinating. Get used to seeing those 4 poster beds everywhere. I don't recommend.
Isn't 11 days the max you can stay up, OP you will not and cannot physically do this.
That is not a good idea op, I can barely manage a day without sleep myself.
Not a good idea in my opinion but, still good luck to you.
Have fun killing yourself.
So... what exactly happened? The OP never posted beyond day 1 in the log.
So... what exactly happened? The OP never posted beyond day 1 in the log.
He's swimming with Cthulhu now.
