Are you American? Because if you are and you randomly whip out an English accent and start talking to your friends and peers you're going to be labeled as a creep ass and your life will be forfeit. However, if you want a British accent for comical purposes (some people find it funny) then just listen to British people talk normally and you will pick it up over time, eventually along with word usage and expressions. You will be really creepy though as everyone who knows you will know that you're not English and you're faking it.
I have a friend (british) who switches to an american accent sometimes without realising it's pretty funny/embarrassing depending on the context
River, I've actually had the same problem. I started hanging out with this Italian dude and later on I caught his accent and didn't even notice. People thought I was really weird.
Accent has a lot to do with what muscles you use in your native language vs the British one. I for example, am Dutch. We use different muscles which means that our English seem to come on harder in terms of an accent. However, if I talk several hours of English I naturally start having a British accent.
Maybe it's part genetic because I'm half Irish (even though I've never lived in a British country) though I doubt it.
Good preference of accent. Just please, please, please do not try and go to the extremes I only ever see when American tv/movies try it. I get rage, because this usually comes out as Queen's English (which practically NO-ONE uses unless they want the piss taken out of them) or really poor Cockney.
Subscribe to some Brits on Youtube and watch more British tv - America gets some sort of BBC channel, doesn't it? Watch that. You'll pick up the accent eventually.
What ever you do, don't get a Newcastle accent.
You don't want it.

The Inbetweeners is a good one.
I wish I had a subtle Russian accent.
British accents sound awesome, no?
Is it possible to form a British accent that I can switch on any time I wish?
British accents sound awesome, and people with British accents, even if not British themselves, are listened to much more.
for some reason a solid British accent is a talent of mine
Get a Texan accent. So much more badass.
I've met like two people with Texan accents and I've lived in Texas my whole life.
The majority of the people down here speak nothing but spanish and all they ever ask you is for some work.
I can never go back to Home Depot.
Just don't adopt a Brummie (from Birmingham/West Midlands) accent, it was actually voted the worst English accent to have in a job interview because it makes you sound so dumb.
Welsh accent sounds gay, Scottish makes you sound crazy and chav language is incomprehensible to anybody with more than two brain cells.
:colbert:
I beg to differ
Black Country is a LOT worse :v:
Why no Dutch accent? :smith:
They sound like a french person speaking german

I beg to differ, strong Liverpool is seriously not understandable. I know as I'm from there.
Thankfully though I don't live up to the stereotype what so ever.
Do that and become a wierdo. People will think it's wierd suddenly forming a brittish accent.. Well some people would at least.
But it's your choice ofc.
My mum said that when I become 18 she will instantly pay for my studies and 1way plane tickets to England and will not let me come back until I have a cockney accent. :saddowns:

Totally ignoring the fact that Vikings are Scandinavians...

More of a cockney accent, it sounds like delboy.
I'm not sure how other people would see it; a non-Brit trying to impersonate one?
But I understand what you mean; I'm half Irish, I love the country and the culture, and I regret not having seen it as a child (we left England when I was 6).
But I don't think you can just 'put one on' - you need to go there and develop one yourself, out of experience, otherwise the whole idea is a bit... iffy.
That being said, I think having English blood would make it more acceptable for you to go and get yourself an accent.

Lovely jubbly.

Fine. I won't try to develop one. :(
Although it would get me all the ladies...
OP abandoned thread but...
No, I'm still here.
Go for hardcore cockney. Then start a cockney revival in the states.
American accents are easy. Just talk normally :hurr:
I'd like a Italian or Russian accent.
There awesome.
Having a Russian accent and deep voice isn't a good combination when you tell jokes, people think you're talking seriously and get concerned. :frown:
I wish i had a slight irish accent.
I, for the life of me, cant figure out how to get an accent. They always run away : ( Except for a British accent (surrey) which is all mine : )
it would be awesome to have a british accent! i know this kid who has a british accent and gets so many girls
I don't see how having a different accent makes you cool or "gets you all the girls". It's just an accent. In britian if I were to try and get an american accent people would just say "You have the accent of a dumb country" Or something along them lines. I wouldn't get no girls.
