The meaning of the word:
HERO [he‧ro] A man who is admired for doing something extremely brave
And it's origin:
ἥρως [heros] Protector, Defender
Wikipidia on the matter:
Later, hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice—that is, heroism—for some greater good of all humanity. This definition originally referred to martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.
So, in my opinion, a hero is someone with great virtues, who uses them for the greater good, or for others, admirably.
would solve large to massive problems (usually dangerous / saving lives) and doing it out of his / her nature.
What does a hero means to me: -People who has the will and the ability to stop crime on the spot, like an armed robbery to hold off the thief until the police arrive. -Doctors discovering cures of deadly diseases out there that is killing people left and right. -Saving people from fires and disasters that could kill them. Generally people who know the right moral decision to help specific people out (innocent, not harming children, etc) instead of harming or taking an innocent life.
I believe a hero is someone who sacrifices something of value to them, for the greater of mankind
I believe a hero is someone who sacrifices something of value to them, for the greater of mankind
I agree with you. A hero is not selfish, they take actions that will protect the innocent.
One who would give everything to better or guard the lives of others. However, there is a thin, blurred line between heroism and foolishness.
A person who doesn't trick Facepunch into doing his class speech for him.
guy with a silly suit.
I believe a hero is someone who you can look up to. My hero is Cliff Burton (magnificent bass player who died in 1986), he did not stop crimes but he has saved people with his music. Most people associate hero as in superhero, someone who stops crimes and is brave and is generally someone to look up at. I don't care if they are brave or not, just as long as they can inspire you I class them as a hero.
A person who doesn't trick Facepunch into doing his class speech for him.
I already did it, It was about Bou Meng, I jut wanted facepunch's opinions on it. Got a fucking 87%. It's true i did make this thread while writing the speech, the only thing i took from this thread was the idea that a CAN be someone who tries to achieve an objective without survival being their primary goal. Although you do have to agree the Australian English unit for year nine is fucking bullshit, Advertising, what's that got to do with the English language?
Someone who flies around with a cape and a tight suit and fights bad guys. :v:
In my opinion, a hero is someone who throws themselves into a situation where there is a good chance they might die/be in extreme pain afterwards, just to prevent someone else from that fate. Placing the needs and lives of others above their health
A hero by my definition: Someone who goes out of their way and beyond the call of duty to help another human being in a positive manor.
Heroism is achieved via stopping an event from happening out of fear for themselves, but is then misinterpreted by others as an act to save them. So if other people are in fear for their own lives (selfishness/primal survival instincts) and someone deals with the situation whilst no one else could, BAM, SUCCESS, Hero created. TLDR: People are selfish to the core. End.
Dragonborn.
imo a hero is someone that posesses endless bravery and does something against all odds while everyone else can't or is not willing to. To illustrate, here is a video:
somebody who puts others above himself without looking for credit, satisfaction or recognition
I'm a hero. I put myself before others, I do good things for everyone. I help girls out of relationships, I help guys fix their cars, I help parents deal with their child, I help every single person i can, Sacrificing myself in the process and it's killing me. It's Killing me. I'm dying every time more. I've saved people's lives, I've found stolen items, I returned things that don't belong to me. And most of all, I'm a hero because i have a good heart. I still trust people. They never say thanks, They never stand up for themselves. It doesn't matter to me though, I'll keep what i'm doing till i die or someone kills me.
When someone walks into what they know is going to hurt, what they know is going to cost them dearly, something that will fuck them up so hard, but they decide to go into it anyway to help out the ones they care about. When someone makes the decision to put themselves and what they have on the line for the betterment of a group, or just one person. Someone willing to sacrifice something to help out someone else in need. That's a hero.
Dragonborn.
Not a hero. Dragons still terrorize skyrim even after you killed their boss. Not to mention all the innocent people who died during the time he was messing around with fus ro dah.
Someone who's done good by his entire life?
I'd say a hero is someone who people look up to because of his/her actions, not words.
Someone who puts the lives/rights of others above their own, at the possible expense of their own lives/rights.
Probably the best one so far.
Fable.
Niko Bellic.
Any man or woman who earned their dog tags Ooh-rah
Someone who is willing to risk their own well being for the betterment of others' lives.
someone who will take the risk of themself dying to save another person/ other people in a noble way
