Is gear like actual equipment that you use in combat and not just a cosmetic change?
Gear has stats but if you get a new piece of gear with better stats that you want but doesn't look right you can change how it looks to the same design as the previous piece of gear you had. You don't lose the old piece in the process so you can still salvage it afterwards for build points.
Stats don't make a huge difference but they help the character fit more to your play style.
As an example here is my gear from earlier today. A fresh player can only P2W their gear to lvl 6 common before they have to prestige to reputation 1 for rare gear. You will then soon hit another gear level cap and will have to hit prestige 2 and 3 and so on. As you prestige higher the cosmetic range of the gear also increases.
So none of my current gear could be straight up bought without first working to reputation 1.
Is gear like actual equipment that you use in combat and not just a cosmetic change?
There are stats on them, but the stats affect the 4 v 4 modes only, in 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 there's parity, so all that counts is your skill. I don't know the numeric values of the stats though.
except its 60$ on launch, you do know they're showing off the gold edition which is the game+season pass for 100$
and all the microtransactions are just cosmetics anyways, and you don't even need the season pass since they're going to let you use the characters for free anyways (you just have to buy them with ingame currency if you want to customize their look)
Now i know our dollar is in the shitter but that doesn't mean Ubisoft's pricing scheme isn't shit. Most companies don't do an exact conversion, so the canadian version is only slightly more expensive. When our currency gets weak, our salaries don't magically go up to compensate for it, everything online just gets more expensive. I wanna know what kind of jackass spends $80/90/120 on a Ubisoft video game.
so basically fuck ubisoft, good video.
Also, when did people start becoming ok with $60 price tag on new AAA games. What happened to only buying $50 dollar games as a matter of principle? You people buying $60 games and defending the price are the reason publishers think it's ok to charge 60/80/100/120 dollars for games.

Okay.
I bought the game from GMG, got it for cheaper than full price. Now, I know Ubisoft is considered to be the cancer of the gaming industry, but with what games I own from them, that is distinctly not true and while I really don't like some of their business decisions their games that they put out are generally awesome. Siege was really, well and truly one of the most top notch, 10/10 games I've ever played. It's a fucking perfect shooter.
So, getting over the idea that "a Ubisoft game" requires a special kind of jackass to spend full price on, they're also a largely Canadian gaming company(the montreal office at least), I feel no problem in contributing to their bottom line.
Thirldy, Ubisoft is trying to not get sold to Vivendi. By holding out on all their games and believing they're purely shit you're feeding into a self fulfilling prophecy. Ubisoft gets bought out by Vivendi, say goodbye to what little they do that's experimental and interesting. So, no thanks on that front from me either.
Also, was their a binding resolution for gamers to only buy games at "50$"? I never heard of this, I wait to buy most of my games except for the ones I'm pretty sure i'm crazy about. For Honour had a free public beta, which was essentially a demo. That sold me on the game, I had 20 hours with it and I was sure I was going to get my moneys worth.
As far as "It's a full price game there shouldn't be micro transactions" goes that's not nearly as cut and dry an argument as it used to be. There's value to those microtransactions and you and I never have to spend a cent, and nothing has changed for you and me and that's what we wanted, right? People who don't have the time to spend on a game are just changing time for money.
I get that letting people change time for money is literally evil incarnate to those of us with enough time to make that work for us, but there are other people in the world who can't do that and still want to enjoy the stuff you and I do
I love For Honor, but I don't think it's worth $60. I could count on one hand the number of games that I think are worth $60 and that's only because I'm an unreasonable fanboy of that series.
You don't have to buy it on Steam either. I bought it on Gamersgate for $48, which I still think is high, but I'm willing to go for because of how much I enjoy the game.
not a fan of the combat system myself but i have a lot of respect for the game and what it does. it has the same exact payment model as rainbow six siege and that game is extremely fair. people just love to hate on anything that tries to make a little bit of money beyond the initial release
For Honor: Gold Edition (aka the version with the season pass) goes for 100€ right now.
At this price, it should not have microtransactions at release, not even cosmetics.
Overwatch released for literally half that price without a season pass, free updates for all, and cosmetics available for free by just playing the game (with the option to get more of what you can already unlock normally for money).
And looking at the microtransactions, the price of the funbucks compared to how much you need to buy anything is fucking ridiculous. You would have to spend more than a hundred euros worth of ingame currency to get all of the available packs, on top of buying the game - and those deluxe/gold editions don't give you any of those funbucks as well.
You can purchase every cosmetic in the game with in-game currency, the micro transactions literally just give you in-game currency in packs, and that's it.

Yea, I'm clearly american, not canadian, so obviously the prices are going to be different.
some companies aren't a massive machine like blizzard and actually have to charge more for their games in order to survive and give it years of support.

- For Honor is releasing all of its maps, game modes, and characters for free.
- All cosmetics are available to earn through play. You may have to grind a shit ton for the super hoity toity costumes but I'd prefer that above Overwatch's garbage random drop boxes any day.
- Your complaints hinge on buying the gold edition. Just like Siege, there is no reason to buy the gold edition other than supporting the game.
Also, are we just ignoring Overwatch was a $60 game with microtransactions here? Blind box, random drop microtransactions. At least in FH you can just straight buy what you want.

November 8th 2005. Kind of late to complain about at this point.
It's also fun to remember older games were often much more expensive. Them $100-$300 Neo Geo AES cartridges for example.
If you have a problem with the price of the game because its an issue for you the best thing to do is not buy it and then if you so desire validation that your choice was right just sit back and laugh at the uninformed mouthbreathers having fun with their purchase to yourself and stop being so mardy about it.
The hate bandwagon is a wonderful thing. God forbid developers for naming a price.
The Microtransactions aren't a problem, but they are scummy.
The problem is this is a $60 game with a gold edtion and season pass, with peer 2 peer servers.
Was there really no room in the budget for live servers?
Game is really fun. I genuinely don't have that big of a problem with the netcode.
What I do have a problem with is fucking VIKINGS thinking they OWN THE GODDAMN PLACE.
HOW ARE THEY DOING THIS?
I really liked this game during the beta, but the networking model just doesn't sell it for me. I've had plenty of problems with host migration/bad host shit already and I need to put my computer on a fucking DMZ to connect at all.
give me dedis or give me death

I'm a bit confused, but how is the specific price per country an issue with Ubisoft and not whatever regulation decides the price?
I mean, I have to pay in Euro/Dollars whenever I buy a game online, and the base price for me was around 47-ish dollars on the uPlay store (Pre-order discount, mind you) for the deluxe edition.

I remember the game-prices during Sega Megadrive and SNES -era. Like 500-700mk (100+ euros or 110+ dollars in current money) holy FUCKING shit! I never ever EVER could get a new game, I always bought them used or traded my old games to other old games.
Y'know there is a much better alternative since 2007.

Most of what I've read from the negative reviews are about how the game doesn't have dedicated servers and connections drop during games. If they force people to play peer to peer on PC then I would never purchase this game and would be extremely annoyed if I paid £40 to play on peer to peer servers in 2017. AAA multiplayer games shouldn't even be considered AAA if they don't have dedicated servers at this point, it destroys the gameplay imo. If I wanted to disconnect 10 minutes into a match I would go back to playing Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360
I never dropped or experienced lag or desync problems during the open beta. Constant problems with logging in or getting post-battle rewards though, and about half my matchmaking attempts dropped before the map started loading.
It's a fun game, will definitely pick it up on sale.
When the game is no longer about the game.
I haven't had very many server issues. Every now and then I'll get a match where someone DC's and it ends up killing the lobby for some reason, but for the most part even if someone DC's it gets right back into the action very quickly, and I haven't had very many if any lag issues.
I just feel like there's not enough in the game for $60. Yeah animation quality and whatnot, but it just doesn't grab me for how expensive it is.

the gameplay is where everything is
I get that it may not be an instantly grabbing game, but when you actually play it, get a feel for it, and understand it, that'll change a lot.
It really is gameplay over graphics.

Yeah I get that believe me. The only reason I even mentioned animation quality was that was a point brought up in the For Honor thread to justify the price (and I had mistaken that thread for this one a little).
But the gameplay just doesn't grab me. I played until Renown 1 and a handful of levels more in both Nobushi and Warden in the beta and I just didn't see the appeal at all.

Yeah, same here. I seem to be in a small minority where I've experienced next to no lag or connection issues. I just don't see any of the complaints that people have about the P2P connection and netcode whenever I play.
Ubisoft has an unjustified hate bandwagon. They can make some really good games, and of the AAA companies, they're the most willing to try something new. They make mistakes here and there, but they're still one of the better AAA companies.
*Was
Back when they were doing 101 pre-order deals and pumping out a new garbage AssCreed every year. Back when they were releasing Watch Dogs 1 quality games.
But starting with Rainbow Six: Siege, they've been releasing some really interesting and novel games. The worst thing they've released is Far Cry Primal, but even that is a really neat idea.
