So basically generate yourself more bad rep? Talking this topic through, listening to both ends, and actually finding a solution that both can find good, will atleast keep you with some good rep.
Cmon man I even posted a :v:, you lot really need to stop taking everything so seriously.
A big trend I've seen is that a lot of the posters seem to think the entire mod team is out to get them, and there's just so much doomsaying about how "they want to destroy the whole tf2 section!"
The whole reaction to the switched ratings was so over the top, it's a thing that's always happened here, the ratings also really don't mean much at all.
It's kinda overly absurd.
Can anyone argue in favour of keeping MUS, rather than just merging it in with TF2 General?
I'm trying to be level headed here and see your point of view, but if we just look at the fact MUS has more bans than any other thread in the whole rest of the forums, why is it worth keeping it? And why is it such a big deal for it to be going?
i really think there's no point in keeping mus, the game gets 3 cosmetic updates a year and one major update a year and for the rest of the time it's just the usual people chatting generally about tf2.
[editline]lol[/editline]
honestly, im pretty damn invested in tf2 as a content creator so it's not like im just saying this because "hurr tf2 dead game", to say that there's a need to talk "speculation" 24/7 365 days a year is just not true.
just have people make a thread for when something actually happens to the game instead of having a stale thread that just talks smack inbetween updates
Seeing how people will make an update thread (once a major update comes around) anyway, i see no reason to keep them seperate.

Personally, I think for now there really isn't a reason to keep it around. A long time ago it was really useful when updates were teased more often and there was tons more to talk about. As it stands for now, it's use has kinda faded away and all the current discussion that happens could easily happen in General Chat. Unless TF2 updates as frequently as it used to, I don't see any point in keeping it around. Maybe if things pick up again it could be brought back, but for now it serves no real point.
I think a lot of it has to do with nostalgia, since a lot of people have used that thread for a long time, but really if the threads merged not much would change besides the name of the thread, the same sort of discussions could be had.
just have people make a thread for when something actually happens to the game instead of having a stale thread that just talks smack inbetween updates
yeah there's always a separate post for blog posts and updates, major or minor. i really think this makes no difference once the MUS gang get settled in to general chat
If you're wondering why people are displeased, it isn't a very complicated reason. Basically, it's customary to respect authority that comports itself with decorum and professionalism. It's likewise customary to disrespect authority when it appears to originate from children exercising power because it's humorous (to themselves).
I'm well acquainted with this forum's "culture," but that doesn't mean operating like a high school clique is admirable. Believe it or not, hardly anyone in this subforum cares much for Facepunch as an entity beyond the realm of TF2 discussion. We're here because for some reason, a large number of veterans seeking thoughtful and in-depth discussion (discussion that doesn't necessarily 100% pertain to competitive TF2) gravitated here. You should actually be flattered, if I'm being perfectly honest.
man, I see you're putting your copy of the oxford thesaurus to good use but it sure as hell makes you look really fucking pretentious
I think the bans were unnecessary as well and it borderlines on entrapment, people noticed that ratings were being changed, so of course they are going to point it out and even be rather unhappy with it considering the subject at hand.
yeah im talking to icemaz
Of course, some people did go a bit too far, but permabanning somebody over this? I think that's pretty much overkill.
the permaban had nothing to do with that drama fyi.
There was once a valid point to having the MUS thread - for those not aware it was started in 2011, after ned_ballad's thread about STS string leaks was closed and I figured having a single thread for that type of thing and recapping recent leaks and developments would be handy to have.
Shortly after that cp_foundry was added, with hidden things pointing towards a future update, MVM. And as the years went on there was more teasing, more leaks, even an ARG or two. However, in recent years (namely, last one and this year) there hasn't been anything. No leaks, no teases, nothing really hidden.
The last time it had valid and active content going on was the whole Invasion drama in 2015, but since then teasing and updates have slown down to a snail's pace.
Personally, I don't think there's a valid reason to have it as a separate thread anymore. Not really. Just merge it with the General Chat at this point.
And as an aside, I would like to point out that years ago I tried to tell people to stop posting when there was nothing interesting to post, keep it to speculation. Nobody cared then, either.

I am not 1000% in favor of keeping MUS, but here is why people wanna keep it :
1. Long lasting tradition. MUS has been a thing for a long while now, and people don't wanna see a tradition go.
2. As said above a supreme wave of bans happened around these times every year or so, primarily because these are times where the big ol' tf2 update releases and people that want more information/are excited usually go over to MUS as it has a good rep in the community, sometimes these newcomers are good people and sometimes these newcomers arent famillar with how fp works and post reaction videos and meme shit, getting them banned. After the TF2 Update eventually releases, ban waves usually go down massively, as no new members join/less join.
3. When something will eventually happen, people will go in full speculation/dataminer mode - any normal tf2 talk will be completely drowned out by that. General was a "dead" but very specific niche that did it's job.
That's about it - lots of vocal folk that would likely argue for MUS have been banned in the last big drama pile in General, though and can't chip in, so keep that in mind.
I think the bans were unnecessary as well and it borderlines on entrapment, people noticed that ratings were being changed
I wanted to give people some room to chill out in, and actually discuss, but I was a bit heavy handed with a few of the bans so I apologise for that!

keep MUS because it seems to annoy mods and that's funny
Keep MUS but change the TF2 section to an Overwatch section.
Keep MUS but change the TF2 section to an Overwatch section.
man, what's the point in switching one bad game out with another bad one
Valve should just make a deal with Blizzard and just merge the two games.
About the TF2 section. The ratings joke just really came out at a bad time when people are already upset to mods (IMO for a reason but not important) and MUS being removed.
Keep MUS but change the TF2 section to an Overwatch section.
I find that quite disrespectful, replacing the abandoned apartment with a landfill site.
Keep MUS but change the TF2 section to an Overwatch section.
I'm not sure if Overwatch really deserves a section, it's missing a lot of factors that give TF2 a right to have its own section (at least in my own eyes). TF2 has its own modding community, SFM/community videos, and fan projects. Plus it's a Valve game, which directly ties into why this forum even exists.
You only really need one thread for a game.

Contra asks to be unbanned so he can give his two cents on the entire MUS thing. Normally he'd appeal himself but clicking the "Appeal ban" button just reloads the page for him.
He promises to keep Civil, but he is a spy main
On a more serious note, I help mod a smaller forum and we have similar situations with our DLC speculation thread...what we usually do is lock the thread when it's getting dumped on by the unwashed masses, and let someone create a new thread when there's something substantial to create a thread on, which works pretty well. The latest iteration has managed just under 100k posts fine since there's always been something to talk about, but it's pointless outside that.
Can't see anything wrong with telling people to use the gen thread tbh, all the people saying that it barely gets any posts are kinda outlining the reason they're being told to use it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Combining MUS and general is not a good idea.
If there IS some major leak it would be annoying to search through general chat to find just one post through possibly hundreds of posts.

just curious but ask him if clicking this works for him https://facepunch.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=62

one chat thread for sure, but threads like the TF2 emporium, filled with unique content to do with tf2 hat/weapon/taunt/map creation, would not exactly go down well in a chat thread setting :v:

There's no CSGO section, and TF2 is even less relevant imo
Maybe it deserved its own subforum 10 years ago but nowadays it could probably pretty easily make due with a megathread in GGD
you could argue that the reason tf2 has a section right now is due to the amount of community content being produced by members of the site
but at the same time it feels bad we ditched the dota 2 section but kept the tf2 section

That's all he gets, and according to him he already tried to change his password, it still keeps this going.

Reagy suggested that the emporium becomes a separate thread in the Creationism Corner as just an idea. Could work but could also get some people lost and/or confused.

yea i suppose it would fit fine in there, but we get a load of new creators who come to the thread for information and end up becoming very talented artists, it'd be a real shame to make it harder to find the thread:[
when is the Sims subforum coming back?
