I think both sides just overreacted in haste and it all blew up to be as big as it is now. Perhaps mods should've tried to inform us that they want to merge General chat and MUS into one thread more clearly, maybe by posting a message both on the General chat and MUS explaining their viewpoint and the situation. On the other hand, some people should've just kept their mouths shut instead of shitposting, and I think the talks could be more calm from our side.
Honestly as someone who frequents the TF2 section I do think MUS had to go, it was basically a giant shit fest of arguing about speculation that was wrong like 3 quarters of the time, and that's when it stayed on topic. I almost never visited the thread myself. A lot of the discussions that happened on MUS would have fit better in other threads in the TF2 section but since almost everyone posted and read MUS less people posted in other areas of the TF2 section and they dried up. It was getting to the point of MUS being the TF2 general thread rather than the actual TF2 general. As for the TF2 section in general, I think it should stay. It's not dead but idk how much that'll change after MUS gone. Hopefully with MUS gone people will filter into other threads and make them more active again.
u can make all the threads and subforums you want in 2042 when newpunch is released
u can make all the threads and subforums you want in 2042 when newpunch is released
The words "newpunch" and "released" shouldn't be in the same sentence tbh
The words "newpunch" and "released" shouldn't be in the same sentence tbh
newpunch will never be released
listen i know the slated release date of the heat death of the universe is far away but i like to be a bit optimistic okay??
Can't give a firm date. Was speaking to garry the other day and a lot of testing is required but possibly Q2 / Q3 2017
we are not on track
"Welcome to Facepunch 2. After nine years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait." - Garry Newell
holy shit
"Welcome to Facepunch 2. After nine years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait." - Garry Newell
Can't wait for hats and weapon skins on this forum, and those being the only updates.
Perhaps mods should've tried to inform us that they want to merge General chat and MUS into one thread more clearly
But why is it up to the mods over what gets discussed, what threads are made and such? As long as its not illegal content surely it should be up to the users as to what threads are made? After all wasn't that the entire reason why newpunch had user made subforums?
What the fuck is even going on
You hear that? It's only the loss of a thread title and nothing else in tf2 section [editline]22nd July 2017[/editline] but thanks for flipping shit over it. It has been entertaining.
Why do we even have a dedicated TF2 forum anymore? Only 9 threads have had posts in them in the last 24 hours
Why do we even have a dedicated TF2 forum anymore? Only 9 threads have had posts in them in the last 24 hours
Not to say against or for the removal of a TF2 section, but if we go by this logic for scrapping sections based on activity the past 24 hours, mapping and games in progress should be removed or merged with other sections aswell
Outside of the three main threads (General Discussion, MUS & Emporium) there have been less than 30 posts in the last 24 hours. I don't see why these three threads can't be moved to appropriate other subforums
Not to say against or for the removal of a TF2 section, but if we go by this logic for scrapping sections based on activity the past 24 hours, mapping and games in progress should be removed or merged with other sections aswell
Mapping has always been a subforum and will remain as such I see your point about GIP though, it is rather underutilised at present. Game specific subforums (barring the FP games) have always been a temporary affair based upon how popular the game is. [editline]22nd July 2017[/editline] How about turning the dead TF2 section into a Valve specific subforum, sharing with the likes of CSGO and DOTA?
How about turning the dead TF2 section into a Valve specific subforum, sharing with the likes of CSGO and DOTA?
We had a Valve-specific forum in the past and me personally wouldn't mind seeing a return of that. Can also encourage discussing various sourcemods aswell
Mapping has always been a subforum and will remain as such
If we're going to arbitrarily keep subs around for posterity anyway why is inactivity an argument against keeping the tf2 sub around? If the tf2 gets the axe, the mapping sub should become the mapping thread in creativity corner, the programming sub should become the programming thread in hardware+software, and the GiP sub should become the GiP thread in general games discussion.
Programming and Mapping are two hobby topics that are distinct enough to warrant their own section. TF2 is just another game, that could easily fit into GGD, where all the other games are. As for GIP I'm not exactly sure what the best thing to do with it is, it's kinda odd.
I would argue that the mapping and programming sections are specialized enough to keep around, sure they have general threads in the sections but they represent a very specific area, its useful being able to split topics within these because of the nature of programming and mapping.

The examples you've given are forums that will always have a place on FP, with the exception of GIP. That forum relies on separate threads, but even then is rather redundant now that most people use Discord.
MUS regulars are treating this like Native Americans reacting to Manifest Destiny.
Should have kept their mouths shut, now look whats going on.
Great, so can we get back to talking about how much we hate anime now?
Nah fam. It's all about the Tuddposting and mod erp.

Inactivity is a stupid reason to remove the TF2 subforum for reasons aformentioned. I would understand if it was taken away because of not being really a unique kind of subforum, but there is already a big problem with the Emporium and the TF2 media thread. The latter could be just another merge. I do not think the Emporium would really fit anywhere else, it is very specific in my opinion. Sure, there is the Emporium discord, but I think losing the thread itself would be a shame. It also makes life easier for people who want to do concepts. I think a general Valve subforum would be the best solution to a potential removal, as myon said. Just move the Steam and DotA and these kind of threads into the now TF2 section and rename the subforum.
I think having a valve/source mods specific subforum is a great idea
Definitely in favor of this. I've always been sad at how empty TF2 general feels, and I'm sure the CS:GO and DOTA guys would like the ability to make specific threads. I don't see any real downsides to a Valve subforum.
