Problem is that we just edited the post and cleaned up the rest. Watch this. [editline]27th July 2017[/editline] Good enough. But that's still a poor excuse to NOT read the sticky. If you've noticed a sticky change. You should PROBABLY read it. Something has changed.
It'd be a lot clearer that it's updated if you tacked on something like "(Updated July 27th)" or something.

Why read stickies when you can just learn the rules the hard way
Why read stickies when you can just learn the rules the hard way
Live fast; die young.
Laws don't exist for the lawful, etc.
maybe if you notice the thread title change some of them have dates you're all old members this is basic stuff
Back in the old days there were no rules you could post whatever you wanted and not worry about consequences
As someone who's been a member for a decade with barely any bans, a lot of the things here really are common sense and as long as you follow your common sense you're good. But on the other hand the rules really aren't shown prominently enough, let alone whenever it's updated, and FP has some specific rules most newcomers, or even old time occasional lurkers don't know about like image macros, 4chan-related things like greentexting, and some rules enforced due to past incidents like the Loss meme being bannable (maybe That Cat too but it's mostly an inside joke) and stuff. I personally think FP has been really really lax so far over the years especially compared to the first few years where Smartness, insta/autobans and such were a thing, but just throwing my 2 cents that for some people some things are a bit vague. Plus the current 'you're going to get banned' message before making a new thread is just less intimidating compared to the original one. Facepunch should migrate to Reddit that way everyone would know the rules. Just make a new Reddit
-snip-
Ban clean users are on my shit list I will strategically shit on your car
I think that's against the rules and you will get banned if you do it
You cant ban birds for being birds
Banned if you do, banned if you don't.
Polidicks is supposed to be for at least some good debate, posts like: Are not good for debate and are clearly some form of bait, in my opinion. Plus the dude had 14 posts on a 2010 account, and had been using his gold members account alt to rate his own posts in the thread, and his alt had the same name. The fact they were using an alt also shows to me they were trolling, beyond just the obvious content of the post. Killuah knew it was a troll immediately after replying, and all the users that go banned had been here for at least 6 years, they should know better than to reply to baiting trolls. In situations like this, ask yourself whether replying some obtuse inflammatory comment is going to get the thread offtopic or not. If the answer is yes then don't reply, just ignore those folk. See Tudd for people who have these opinions but still post properly.
I don't think they were baiting trolls though, they were responding to a post that was substantively similar to posts that had been made prior on these boards by people who didn't have a low post count, or even people in that very thread. It might not be a big point on FP but there are plenty of people who genuinely believe (ie, not trolling) that transgender/gender dysphoria constitutes a "mental illness" that should automatically preclude one from the military. As for being an alt, that might be a giveaway, but only if you knew he was an alt. I personally didn't even notice until someone pointed out he had used his gold alt to rate himself. And frankly I don't see how you can tell people not to reply to "obtuse inflammatory comments that get the thread offtopic", then turn around and suggest that people post like Tudd, who himself was banned several times even while getting special treatment from the moderators. I just don't see the requirement in banning someone you think is trolling, then banning people for making replies that are otherwise perfectly in line with the rules because the person they replied to was a troll in the moderators opinion. The only thing that is sort of a giveaway is the post count, but then we have entered the territory of not being able to reply to people who make contrarian posts because they might be a troll.
From the troll's perspective, ain't banning them (even though it was obvious to me) just satisfies the troll's goal? idk
From the troll's perspective, ain't banning them (even though it was obvious to me) just satisfies the troll's goal? idk
I didn't want to get too conspiratorial but technically this lets people create alts, make posts that contain their genuine opinion, and have people get banned for "don't reply to trolls".
That's a classic I've done that one a million times
As someone who's been a member for a decade with barely any bans, a lot of the things here really are common sense and as long as you follow your common sense you're good.
This is true of basically any forum. I'd actually say it applies more to other forums than Facepunch to be honest. Since it's so easy to get banned here you actually need to at least pay a trivial amount of attention. On most sites you really need to try in order to get banned.
it's hard as hell to get banned on here if you aren't shit though, just need common sense
I don't disagree at all. But that doesn't negate my point. It's still far easier to get banned here than the overwhelming majority of forums.
Back from "vacation". I do appreciate people seemingly missing me even for the oddest of reasons.
Back from "vacation". I do appreciate people seemingly missing me even for the oddest of reasons.
Damn, trump fired you already? Well, its the memories that matter, I suppose (I actually noticed a few accounts became active suddenly in the last few days, any known correlation?)
Back from "vacation". I do appreciate people seemingly missing me even for the oddest of reasons.
this isn't WAYT
We only got to 53 agree's which was not enough for the petition to ban Tudd for offtopic.
Is this proof that democracy is the inferior system of government?
Yes. Dictatorship now. ... wait
in all honesty, can we have some more concrete rules for this thread so it doesn't randomly become WAYT at random intervals?
This is pretty hilarious, I hope you don't fix it.
in all honesty, can we have some more concrete rules for this thread so it doesn't randomly become WAYT at random intervals?
I'm pretty sure common sense works just about fine.
in all honesty, can we have some more concrete rules for this thread so it doesn't randomly become WAYT at random intervals?
What rules do you propose?
