Forums Discussion v2 - GO TO PAGE 109 FOR SOMETHING NEAT

if it weren't for trump, I feel like this wouldn't have happened.
Back on the topic of the forums, what do you think the biggest change to Facepunch has been over your time here?
I find it hard to remember specific changes that have happened, or when they did. Things like custom forums, or Facewound section disappearing from the front page before going forever. But for me the biggest change was the opening up of Gold Member to anyone with 2 years and enough posts. That changed how I used to forum's at the time quite a bit.
What about you, what are some of the biggest changes you have noticed to either the forums or the people?
remember groups? those were nutty times
rest in peace billy mays
I remember when smartness was first brought online. Man it was a hectic couple of days. I think it did good for me though, made me proof read my post a lot more and helped correct my quick spelling of "maybe"
Biggest change I remember mostly that really effected the forums was moving to vB4 (which we're currently still on), the nibbling of doggy ears and the forums being broken for months on end because said doggy ears actually did jackshit.

To this day it annoys me that I had an uneditable post which lost me -26 smartness on an otherwise perfect score.

I got permabanned from previewing a post thanks to smartness.
I wasn't very smart.
Still ain't.
:dogcited:
I remember profile pages having Buddies lists
I miss the page that showed who banned users the most, it also showed the users with the most bans, good times.

Remember the funny rating being replaced with some dumb smiley face?? Bad times.

The biggest change was the banning of Leo5GG
Mentioning the vB4 move, the thread is still active, granted closed but still active, funny to see how basically NOTHING else got added.

I remember the first attempt at labpunch that pretty much only gave us a search bar on the front page. The one quirk I remember is that it ignored name changes (at least prior to it was added) as well as a few weird ones that replaced stuff with x's IIRC.
There was also General Disruption, and the whole shitshow with the invite-only period of the site.

It looks better in context and in the thread, event log butchers it.
Also found out ban reasons have a 512 character limit set on the db, how boring.

Honestly, I don't find the people have changed super much over my time here. The long-term trolls tend to get weeded out (except doug) but there will always be new ones to replace them. One thing that I really like about this place is that the environment does tend to stay consistent - i.e. sensationalist headlines and polidicks will never cease to break out into a nazi discussion and johnnymo will always need to be summoned.
I've gotten the go ahead and have began to work on something exciting.
We're going to launch a community fund that rewards users for donating towards it with titles / name changes / gold membership, etc.
The community fund will be used to pay for game servers, raffle & contest prizes, charitable causes, etc. This is something that the community has previously done out of their own pocket. Users will be able to apply for funding as well.
Funding will be transparent and account statements will be released on a regular basis.
There are some events planned for the launch of the community fund, too.
What do you think?
Would you donate towards the fund and if so, how much would you be willing to spend?
What would you like to see as rewards for donating?
Do you have any ideas what the fund could be used towards?

This seems sick. Having proper FP servers for stuff would be neat-o and raffles are alright too I guess.

Would you donate towards the fund and if so, how much would you be willing to spend?

Totally, but how's it gonna be done? Monthly like Patreon? One-time? I'd probably spend like $10 for a title idk.

If Newpunch won't have titles or gold members then I don't see the point in putting those up there now. Other than that I guess games or behind the scenes stuff of whatever. Physical stuff might be neat? I'd probably buy a hat.

Basically the stuff you said. Organizing irl meetups could be a fun disaster.
That sounds pretty neat. Would you be able to donate and give someone else the reward, like a gift? Or is that not really solid right now?
Sounds cool and all but im not sure if i should trust you lads with my credit card details, im curious how payment will work.

Can we get Tudd sized avatars? /sarcasm
Jokes aside, I think this sounds like a really neat idea. Do you have any ideas of specific charities/causes you guys would donate to yet at this stage?
Besides Charity, I think maybe funding could be used towards the upkeep of Facepunch, maybe as the replacement of Gold Membership payments?
Are title changes stable or is that fixed?

I initially looked at Paypal, but it didn't seem suitable. I have since looked at Google Wallet which seems like a good way to pay, although it isn't available to everybody. I anticipate that it will be singular donations although if people wish to subscribe to a Patreon, we could probably arrange that. Rate "Optimistic" if you'd pledge towards a Patreon.
I believe that Garry has said that Gold Members will get something neat on the next forums. We also don't know when we'll be moving over to the next forums. I've had a lot of demand for various title & user changes. Makes sense to offer it through donations so that the community can benefit from it.
I hadn't considered merchandise. I will speak with Garry about this; it may be something that he'd do through the company. For clarification, this is something run by me, for the community. The company does not run it.

Yes, it will work much like boostar in that you can give titles to friends & enemies. Username changes will only apply to your account.

Google Wallet and other unconfirmed services for those outside of the US & UK.

Only worth anything if there's some form of persistance when newpunch becomes nowpunch.
Username changes are free on that platform, meaning if anyone actually don't give more than like seven fucks, they can wait. Gold membership isn't even on the table yet, let alone titles, which I doubt will make a comeback (but I'm not garry).
It's also not a donation if you're getting something back from it

Larger avatars could be possible.
We don't have any charities in mind at this time.
The website upkeep is paid for by the company, so no need to worry about that. This fund is purely for the community. I'd like to see us return to the good old days, where we'd have our community servers for TF2 and the like.

Tell that to Star Citizen
Dunno if anyone cares about the rules page but Filesmelt has been dead for a while now and the page still links to it as an example host.
Also if you need a not so bad payment platform, stripe is pretty easy to work with
Larger avatars could be possible.
I don't know if I'd like larger avatars :s: it seems like that might get annoying. I guess it depends on how it's done though.
I would contribute to it if single payments got you titles/gold like they used to, but if it's a monthly thing I wouldn't.
I think the community fund is a wonderful idea, and I would certainly donate $15-50 every now and then for the cause of funding community events or helping with server upkeep. Larger avatars would not go well, I think (look at the reaction to Tudd for instance), but having control over titles and usernames again would be great.
A community server sounds nice but it kinda only makes me wonder what game that server could be for.
TF2 was great for dedicated communities, but I honestly can't think of any such game these days.
