Just putting my two cents in.
We're going to launch a community fund that rewards users for donating towards it with titles / name changes / gold membership, etc.
I like this idea in principal. However with how titles have been looking I would really prefer a bit more restriction in terms of size and look. I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I really don't want to see way more people with giant red titles that make threads scroll way longer and take up a normal forum signature of space. Also I hope the avatar size enlarger doesn't go overboard for the same reason (I actually put Tudd on my ignore list not because of his posting or anything, but because Adblock wouldn't save blocking his avatar element and the screen stretch annoyed me :v:). Just a suggestion, 110 x 220 would be a reasonable avatar increase imo. I'd like to see the avatar file size limit double from 200kb to 400kb also, but obviously that shouldn't be something to be donated for.
The community fund will be used to pay for game servers, raffle & contest prizes, charitable causes, etc. This is something that the community has previously done out of their own pocket. Users will be able to apply for funding as well.
Funding will be transparent and account statements will be released on a regular basis.
There are some events planned for the launch of the community fund, too.

As an example, I'm assuming when a user gets funding for a server, they become "Facepunch Servers" but are managed by the user? If so then just make it clear to them that funding can be taken at any time if some really bad shenanigans happen. I really like the idea of dedicated Facepunch servers but if the users abuse power in some way then they should be punished.
Would you donate towards the fund and if so, how much would you be willing to spend?
What would you like to see as rewards for donating?
Do you have any ideas what the fund could be used towards?
I'd probably donate if it meant some good dedicated servers for games I play. As for donation rewards and what else the funds could be used for, I got nothing.

I'll be adding the titles in by hand so I'm not going to allow some that are too big.
We haven't fleshed anything out yet, but I imagine if people were applying for funding towards servers they would be admin but the overall responsibility would fall with a forum moderator
Knowing how much of this forum is hacky edits, wouldn't surprise me.
The rating system is entirely file controlled and was never actually integrated into the admin panel far as I understand for example.
Yeah, comp even told us how to add new ratings

Please don't send me to the concent-errrrr-refugee camp.
Unless it is the Newpunch one. Then I might dig the renovations.

It's not so bad.

does this thread belong in polidicks? I imagine if the logic of "no politicians were directly involved in the white nationalist march so the march belongs in SH" has to apply here too, right?

Whaaat? It's not the pixels that are circles, just the avatars made of pixels
Damn it robotboy, you had the opportunity to post that cat like this and you didnt.
I wanted to post something, but I didn't feel like bothering finding something that can produce this result online for any image.
I wanted to post something, but I didn't feel like bothering finding something that can produce this result online for any image.
yeah i tried looking and all i could produce was a hyper pixelated that cat which I don't have the balls to post here given my ban history lmao.
I'd be permabanned faster than Leo5gg could deny he is the owner of those servers
I would like there to be for once at least two fp game servers that were hosted in Oceania. I know we're not that popular compared to America and Europe but the lack of support or love for this region when it comes to official server's blow and there's a lot of us out there whod love to play on shit like that
I'd be down to toss a bit of cash into a FP fund. I don't post that much but FP really is like a big dysfunctional family.
Also Glod.
Aussie servers aren't cheap.
Better off doing USA west coast or Singapore.
You can get cheapish hosting if you know what your looking for. Server box hire in Perth or Sydney can be easily catered towards. Hell, I was only paying $40/m with vultur, hosted my communities forum, database, sourcebans shit and a gmod TTT 32 player server just fine. I don't buy this whole "expensive" thing but if it really is too expensive, then either Singapore or Indonesia.
That's probably affordable. I was on my phone and I've looked in the past and it's been expensive with some well known companies.
The question is can we run it for a long time and is the cost worth it?
If you can source some reputable hosting for Australia we'll happily look into this.
Vultr's Australia location isn't too bad. I haven't had too much trouble with them, and their prices are pretty decent for Australia. But for gameservers? It would do just fine. I've been using the Australia location with them since mid-late 2015, and while they were a pain in the ass at the start, they've gotten a lot better since then.

Have to agree. I'm paying for a shitty VDS in Sydney, literally 4 cores 8gb ram, they wont tell me the performance of the cpu, and i only get 40gb storage 750gb bandwidth. That costs me $40. For literally no storage and no bandwidth.
I'd say that using american services would be unacceptable, however the only alternative is bullshit greed and inflation on top of more bullshit greed and inflation. The inflation applied by telstra on their lines for the bandwidth plus the inflation of tech in australia because "lmao its gotta come from america that cost a loooooot" plus the price of hosting that equipment because power isn't cheap, it all adds up, yet still doesn't even come close to the sum we have to pay.
[editline]17th August 2017[/editline]
I'm currently using Exigent Australia, but their prices are a bit pathetic and they charge extra if you plan to host your server for a game community.
[editline]17th August 2017[/editline]
ps I've managed to get a stable CS:GO 128tick server running alongside a website, a mysql server, a modded minecraft server, and 4 discord bots.
You guys pay for servers? :v:
I get 6 months of power on time though my school
it just runs proxies and fileservers. AARNET, so a private internet connection

Get off Exigent. Seriously. They're trash, I used them for many years. I promise you that you can find many, many, many better providers in Australia, with far better network reliability and uptime.

I have a friend in the industry (works and ventraip), says vultr is a really good deal
offered to split with me. But I already split with other guys for an offshore server

So basically my secret santa raffles wouldn't be out of pocket anymore? Neat.
Well I guess FP Secret Santa 2017 is confirmed.

Yes, shockingly - people pay for services normally.

Vultur is as reputable as I could find, great pricing, good location, solid uptime.
We have been missing a strong gaming network since the collapse of iiNet's games.on.net and I think if the Facepunch team would be able to fill the void two fold. It's viable and can definitely be done if they choose popular games, game modes and maps.
I wanted to do it with Trident Gaming but I can't dump my work wage into it when I got to take care of other expenses and things (fuck telstra just btw).
I assume it's not rational to make a white supremacy/anti-nazi news megathread? Fucking SH is again filling up with overlapping articles on the same shit over and over. The last time this happened Polidicks split off.
