Here in America "I'm pissed" means you're angry. Probably derives from the Commonwealth meaning, after coming to be associated with angry-drunk the drunk part got lost in general parlance. Has nothing to do with being urinated on lol
This thread was created so the moderator team are more accountable. It's a bit of a headache sometimes but it does serve a valid purpose.

Screw the account, gonna piss on your face. The wateriest of sports.
I don't think Reagy got the message. I mean the post he's quoting literally says "I don't think this is appropriate conduct becoming of a moderator."
Once I got the ability to read other threads in the RC, I realized it's probably a good idea just to not appeal bans. As far as I can tell, you're far more likely to get mocked or have your ban extended if you appeal your case. Better off staying quiet.
As much as I think the mods are being bullshit in the current discussion, this just isn't true.
They're generally very reasonable when it comes to ban appeals. It's just that most people who make them either don't have a good reason or actively sabotage their own chances.

About half the bans I make, if not more, I would happily reverse if the banned person bothered to make an RC thread stating that they had made a mistake, learned their lesson, and would try to avoid whatever actions got them banned that time in the future. Or, of course, if they were legitimately banned over a misunderstanding, as that has happened before on a good few occasions.
The problem with most RC threads is that they argue why it's a great injustice that they have been banned for doing something that they weren't supposed to. They argue that the rule is stupid, that I'm abusing my power, that other people started it first, blah blah blah. That shit is never going to get you unbanned. What will, in many cases, is just saying, "yeah, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. Will try to avoid that in the future."
There are a lot of people who I ban with the full intention of unbanning once they make an RC thread (assuming they're not throwing a fit), just because I want a chance to explain why they have been banned and put a mark on their event log. Most never do.
That said, an appeal is never going to be a 100% chance Otherwise, we look at ban history, length of membership, and the specific reason a person was banned for. Depending on how big a shithead you've been, it really doesn't matter what you say, you're ban is going to stick.

I can't tell you how many times I've given somebody a 1 day warning ban with the intention of reducing it once I've had a chance to talk to them in the RC, just to have it spiral into a permaban because they throw a massive fit about it.

Maybe we can hold contests on the servers and issue prizes

Make it its own cryptocurrency, "BanCoin"
Spend one to immediately get out of any ban

Problem with that is it gives someone to be a asshole even more. But I can see it being used as a one or 2 time thing where they said they learned their lesson (doubtful).

For someone named "The Joker" you sure missed that it was a joke.
1st place should be deletion of entire ban history
I could sure use a wipe of my ban history :/
I feel bans older than 2 years should be automatically purged from public display (but still available for mods to see)
Is there any way to make the Steam bot better? Like make the picture in it a picture of the game it's talking about or something? It's basically just a headline and a link at this point. At least the GoG bot has useful pictures.

I want to wipe my ban history,so i can keep the clean events page

It used to. I dunno what happened

Valve changed something with their embedding and hotlink support.
Also does it when the articles it posts don't actually have images.
Basically its them not us.

Bans aren't that big of a deal for non mods I don't think. Do people actually mind their ban histories?
I use it to see how retarded I and other people have been
[editline]23rd August 2017[/editline]
I can see some people being embarrassed by it
You got to remember the times you fucked up, so you remember not to fuck up the next time.
I love my bad history, literally all but one are accidental bans, like being mistaken for someone else during an election toxx.

I do check bans for other people from time to time, but I only really think about the last 6 months worth of bans, unless they were users like Noi who were obnoxiously ignorant and stupid.
I personally think that old bans paint an outdated picture about a user. Take my bans for instance. Go down to the bottom, you can see I got banned a couple of times for "get a blog" (which was me ranting in GD/FT about some random crap), and missing the darkrp thread (Hey, why can't we bring back that rule? Garry's Mod discussions would be soooooooo much cleaner.) Then there was the 1 time I got mad and threatened to spam every thread of every section, geez i was retarded.
These are the sorts of bans that I feel don't represent a user properly, and are rather irrelevant when considering anything about the user (for instance, ban history in appeals)
But like the last 12 months of bans would show what the user is like right then and there.
The ban list is a comprehensive history of growth and evolution: I don't see how limiting its public scope achieves anything. Also, how is Noi related to the argument at all?
Our ban history is something we shouldn't be proud of.

We take timeline and frequency of bans into account too, of course.

My bans are monuments to moderator supremacy and they should be torn down from the public square.
My only ban is when I took part in Bengley's Russian roulette thread and lost.
That being said I don't post frequently so idk.
imagine getting banned
I feel like my Ban History is leading to a situation like Van Diesel in Fast and Furious, where the moderator team will have me do some awesome things to exonerate it, or be banned forever.
To steer this back to forum discussion a little, but would the current requirements for Gold Membership apply in parallel with the donation system? i.e would it be possible to still get Gold with 5 years and 2000 posts (or something else if it gets changed?)
Still gonna donate but it'd be good to have options for folks who can't.
Back to the topic of memes and related bans, I figured that OIFY is a great containment zone for such memes, problem is there's a spam issue where people (or rather, 1 person) keeps spam bumping dumb threads.
Does OIFY receive ANY kind of moderation? I know it's a case of "anything goes" but how much is too much there?
