I heard somewhere that spongebob was originally a jellyfish but then they changed him to a sponge
I don't see how you're saying his face has changed. He's always had crazy facial expressions. It's just that with his hollowed-out personality those expressions are always either happy or crying
The only change in appearance that bothers me is Patrick's teeth/tooth. He's supposed to have rounded teeth that you only see when he's angry. Now they have this thing going on where he has this one little baby tooth they show whenever he's acting childish or stupid. It only serves as a testament to how they have completely stripped Patrick of every bit of his personality that didn't involve stupidity and made him just another "dumb" character.
This.

I'm not so sure about this "Squidward creepypasta". Care to fill me in? :geno:
It's been built up too much, I still find it occasionally funny.
the voice of sponge bob came to mall of america for new years, thats like half an hour away from me, and my friend was talking to him after the show, and he was just starring at her tits, I mean they are massive, but she's 15 and he's like 50 for Christ's sake
Pictures might help us with opinions
I saw only one episode of season four and I thought it was funny. Guess I should be glad I didn't see any of the others.
The reason why the episodes are shit is because Stephen Hillenburg quit. Stephen Hillenburg was the best and SpongeBob should have never continued after he quit. The show should have ended after the movie but it continued which was a terrible choice.
The years before the movie the episodes used to have decent plot devices, good humor, and funny characters. The years after the movie have terrible plot devices, random crappy humor, and the same old characters that have been stripped of personality over and over again.
This video reminds me of how great SpongeBob used to be before it was torn to pieces and shat all over.

He didnt quit. He is executive producer now. Paul Tibbit is the one who ruined spongebob
it seems that it TRIES too hard to be relevant and funny to kids nowadays

When Paul Tibbitt took over, everything went downhill.
It just isn't the same after Hilenburg left.
:frown:
Blame Satan.
I've been thinking about this for The Simpsons for a while now and I believe it to be due to cheaper low quality writing, and as a result a greater focus on visual comedy than verbal. (Which, in animated shows has a tendency to suck if not done correctly.) Greater visual budget than writing budget perhaps? Compare an episode of The Simpsons from the last season to the second or third. You'll notice a change in how characters talk amongst each other, and the frequency with which they do. I could go on and on, but I'd rather not.
Just as Marge Simpson became an ultra-conservative asshole, Spongebob has become an un-funny prick.
Animated entertainment just needs better writers really.
I have to agree with all these opinions. Five words: My childhood has been ruined! This new generation blows! The people who makes shows these days think of the most retarded crap! (I.e. SpongeBob, Reg. Show, Adventure Time, the crappy DreamWorks shows, and Phineas and Ferb (though it was good at the beginning)). As I've seen in this picture, they should make a channel for all the 90s shows (I.e. Beavers, Original SpongeBob, Rugrats, Doug, Rocko, DBZ, and others!) why is this new generation so retarded, random crap is not needed, we need the good old jokes. I'm 13, but though I might've had 1 year in the 90s, I still love them all. So CN, Nick, and Disney, please quit hiring retards, a baby could write better jokes.
Shows that will be missed...
The original SpongeBob (1999-2004)
The Angry Beavers (1997-2001)
Rocko's Modern Life (1993-1996)
Doug (1991-1999)
Hey Arnold! (1996-2004)
Rugrats (1991-2004)
CatDog (1998-2005)
Rocket Power (1999-2002)
The Wild Thornberrys (1998-2004)
AHH! Real Monsters! (1994-1999)
Ren and Stimpy (1991-1996)
Dexter's Laboratory (1986-2003)
Johnny Bravo (1997-2004)
Ed, Edd and Eddy (1999-2009)
Courage the Cowardly Dog (1999-2002)
May these shows RIP

:v:
I don't watch the show anymore, But i've always loved this scene, My bad for adding to the bump.
Not sure if it was posted before, but Stephen Hillenburg wanted to end the series after the 1st movie, but Nickelodeon wouldn't let him. So him and a bunch of the original writers left and Nick had to replace them.
I don't like the new writers.
I don't like how they simplified Sandy's role to being "the science one". Originally she was just a surface animal who missed her home. She had quite an interesting concept, being a land animal, but ever since that episode where she had the spaceship or whatever, the new writers don't know how to use her besides being the incredibly smart chick who makes a deus ex machina with some weird device that shouldn't work but does thanks to some made up science.
less effort put into writing = less money spent
less effort put into writing = less money spent
All part of Viacom's master plan, I assume...
Nickelodeon in general is garbage now
I saw a new episode where spongebob said something like "rain..chocolate rain" and looked at the camera worried.
He is aware of what he is doing.
Spongebob Squarepants the Movie II is coming out and it will be directed by Paul Tibbet. I hope to swear to god they do the movie like the 1st one, unlike the new episodes
Honestly, the biggest problem, at least IMO, is that spongebob is now completely stupid. Before, he was annoying but not completely stupid, he was kinda smart. But now hes like Homer Simpson.
The whole show now is
"wow, we're fun"
"dont be fun you bozos"
"no, we'll be fun all the time weeee"
Plus they introduce too many big characters that are important in one episode but never show up again. In classic Spongebob they used the same basic characters, and used the generic citizens to represent other people, but now there's so many named people.
For instance, what's with that one that Johnny Depp voiced? He was like a surfer or something who was all tan and whatever, and he was all advertised all over the place and then he was in two episodes. They're making new characters to throw into the situations when they can't do any more with who they have.
I've mentioned this elsewhere before in more detail, but to me it's pretty clear... In the original episodes, Spongebob was this know-nothing child like idiot completely oblivious to most things in life, just enjoying his job and getting involved in situations his stupidity and simpleton-nature led him in to. He'd get truly scared, sad, happy etc from one episode to the next, and you could sense some genuine emotion tied into his character. Patrick was a complete moron, simple as that - just a functioning invalid - which is exactly how he was meant to be.
Fast forward to now... Patrick is still stupid but he has these blasts of character that are so unfitting - he quotes strange things, comes up with weird plans, and generally just does EVERYTHING he never used to, it's very odd. But worst of all is Spongebob. Spongebob's changed from a world-weary scared little oblivious child-idiot into a shallow, soulless smartarse who always seems to know more than he should and acts like he's 30 instead of 12. It just isn't right... There's something missing.
It's just little things that pile up and screw the whole feel of the show over. Remember that april fools ep in the early run? Where spongebob plays some childish tricks on everyone but Squidward takes it over the top and essentially assaults spongebob in the diner? It was hilarious seeing Spongebob slide out of that trashcan like a loaf of dogfood but almost instantly, he turns into this sobbing sad mess and skulks away, while Squidward starts to feel genuinely bad. I don't know how to explain it, but there's a certain quality of animation, voicework and scripting there that made it so great to watch. Hilarious and sad all at the same time.
I don't know where I'm going - the old eps just had something that the new ones don't. And as many have mentioned previously a HUGE part of that comes down to the quality of the writing.
i think it's sorta like family guy, shit got old but making half-assed episodes bring money
