I think old Facepunch was sort of like natural selection. If you were too fucking stupid to stay on the forums and become a good member, you were banned and forgotten.

I'd like to think at least part of the reason for the changes was my incessant whining over how shit the system was. I'm not against banning assholes and idiots mind, but in addition to not even aiming the gun at the actual shitheads, it was the equivalent of shooting a fly with a napalm bomb.
They're still not shooting the right guys, but at least the gun is more appropriately sized now, so the collateral is limited.
Banning right now is like a joke, a fad, something to do primarily for the purpose of attaching a witty ban reason.
But it went from a corrupt police state to basically anarchy. I wonder when Garry's going to think about actually turning it a nice place.
Although I have my doubts. FP is 90% dickheads and making it a nice place would probably involve something along the lines of banning fucking everyone.
Most people just post on things that interest them.
Not getting banned on 05 was like tip toeing through a minefield. Nowadays, it's just a matter of not being a douche, posting decently most of the time and not getting blind sided when TH89 goes apeshit

I think Facepunch is fine. If you make a shitty topic or post incorrectly, you get banned, and learn from that. That's how I learned anyway.
Also the majority of Facepunchers type correctly. Having smartness back is just going to make people way too afraid to post, and that's the complete opposite of what you want on a forum.
Being afraid to post is the best, because everybody is typing their best and their brain is firing on all cylinders, they spend more time thinking of a good reply that is exeptible and when they post they are sweating like a dog from the tension hoping they don't get banned for there reply. Fear was a great weapon that old fp put to great use, that and a well known community of mods that had a constant itchy trigger finger for bad posters.
Sigh.. I miss FP 2 years ago.. before all these '10 retards blew into town.
I remember these times. Editing posts all the time to save smartness, not posting so you could survive without bans, custom forums with awesome members there. Nostalgia....
