I didn't really like smartness too much, it was cool but slightly unnecessary. I miss when bans where stricter though, there's always a big influx of idiots each year and most of them shit post and have terrible spelling but still manage to not get banned for it.

Overall, Facepunch seems like a fairly decent place to me. Complete jackasses are few and far between, most people on here seem decent (even some of the '10ers), and the content is respectable.

You started out with (I think) two or four thousand smartness, and then it would go down every time you had incorrect grammar or spelling.
As much as I liked the system, it didn't allow words that were made up, or fictional characters.

I wasn't around for any of that, but I've heard many people nostalgia int their pants or rage over it. Its a mixed bag, and personally I have no right to speak about back then, all I know, is I'd probably get banned more often because I try to have a little fun with what I post and from what I understand, the mod ship looked down on fun.

ED is actually a wonderful resource for finding things. I've found so much I would probably have never known through ED. It's far better than Wikipedia actually tbh. Because Wikipedia is just a bunch of poorly written overly wordy and boring ass articles that are practically incomprehensibly put together. It's very hard to extract anything of use from most wiki articles. ED is usually more concise, to the point, and far more entertaining, even if at the expense of accuracy. But that doesn't matter, you learn much better when you have fun.
