I get the allegory. But fuck's sake a Helicopter could just stay away from Small Arms fire and annihilate hundreds of them.
The military has been reduced to a single aircraft carrier, as talked about in the first film. They have limited resources.
The Americans didn't really do all that well in many of the battles in the Revolution. Ditto with the Viet Cong in Vietnam, but they still won. Both also had quite a bit of external help.
The point is, they won. I'm not talking about hardcore military strategies here, I'm just discussing how a bunch of chimpanzees with AK-47s can shoot people.
Universe progression wise, I can see it happening. In the 2nd film they discovered how to use guns, not very well, but they learned how to operate them. It was more a case of numbers and sheer volume of fire that won the fight for them than tactics / skill, they were also up against what was essentially armed civilians, who completely underestimated their attackers, something that every human will do the first time they encounter the apes for themselves, including a millitary force just because they won't beleive it. We know very little of 3 as it stands, we don't know how long after the 2nd this takes place. But Ceasar knows a millitary force is coming, it's likely they've been training and planning a trap for an attacker. Remember this is the remenants of the millitary of the human race, fighting with whats left against an enemy it's never encoutnered before, in a world where the apes have the upper hand. Without all our technology and intelligence to set us apart, it's not a foregone conclusion. Ignoring the helicopter gunship because those are never used correctly in films full stop. That said, who's to say that's a human pilot when you take into account the world being set up. (and millitary not using millitary tactics beyond, all out wave assault because that shit looks cool)
As people said above, they could just take some mortars and artillery pieces and turn the whole place into ashes. Also an ape flying a helicopter is some battlefield earth grade phantasmagoria. On a side note though, it's actually funny how convenient the position of their village is for the film. I mean, there were like, couple of dozens of sentient apes in the lab, most of them males, so in ten years there must still be like, 50 of them at the very max. So, if it wasn't for the fact that they for some reason decided to settle right on the dam humans would have never even met them.
Absolutely chilling scene.
I remember everyone in the theater was cheering or some shit, great way to top a classic line. It pretty much defines the newer reboots in a nutshell.
I get the allegory. But fuck's sake a Helicopter could just stay away from Small Arms fire and annihilate hundreds of them.
I think this, and the question of the artillery, can be justified with the fact that maybe those assets are used only if the aircraft carrier or other extremely vital areas is in direct danger, since they have limited ammunition and fuel for these assets. Sure, you can argue a case of using them very well in an open field battle, but maybe the people in charge might not see it that way due to being paranoid or overly cautious. Might not be a good justification, but it's something.
The point is, they won. They won a prolonged conflict over numerous years until the foreign invaders gave up. This movie won't be that.
The helicopters are going to pull a king kong and get close enough to get physically swatted from the sky lol
Wow a whole page and no harambe meme...it really is dead.
from the Wikipedia page:
At New York Comic-Con 2016, Reeves explained that he and Bomback were influenced by many films before writing. He said, "One of the first things that Mark and I did because we had just finished Dawn was that we decided to watch a million movies. We decided to do what people fantasize what Hollywood screenwriters get to do but no one actually does. We got Fox to give us a theater and we watched movie after movie. We watched every Planet of the Apes movie, war movies, westerns, Empire Strikes Back... We just thought, 'We have to pretend we have all the time in the world,' even though we had limited time. We got really inspired."
It's great to hear the writing/directing team being this passionate about it. It would have been so easy to just rehash the 2001 movie and make a quick cash grab, but the care and respect they've given the source material is awesome. I am at that theater opening week for this. I grew up with the old movies and it's good to see the franchise getting the attention and respect it deserves.
While Rise was very good (and excellent in a sea of shitty reboots), I thought Dawn was a superior movie. Either way I'm really excited for this one. The way they've handled this reboot has been the best.
War for the planet of the apes, seems awfully like war between two human factions while the apes that were the enemy at the start become friends but then are the last living survives later.
