It'll come back in some form. 2 years and 2k posts was abolished two weeks before I was due, although I was about 200 posts short anyway. Maybe there can be different requirements for gold determined by join date, such as recently created accounts need more time and/or posts than older accounts.

It was abolished sometime in June, maybe even earlier.
I remember it being 2 years and 1500 posts back in early 2011, that's when I got gold, and then it changed to something like 4 or 5 years and 100 posts I think.
